  1. Hi all, I really hope that PMDG are still working on their DC6. It would be great to have something a bit different from all those jets that they produce, amazingly wonderful as they are! To be honest my 777 doesn't get used as much as I had hoped to, only on very long haul because of the time compression feature! I'm really hoping for something a bit different to fly soon.
  2. Hi all, Not sure if my experience helps with your problem here. I was flying the 777 from EGBB to OMDB and used to get fsx crashing just as I approached Dubai, either overhead the airport, on approach, finals or maybe even once taxiing to the gate. I'm using FlyTampa scenery, and the problem appeared when fsx was attempting to load up the new scenery, and it all just got too much and "crash". I looked on here, and found a comment regarding DX10, and how it loads up a smaller amount of scenery and dumps it after you have flown by. I tried it on the same flight, and brilliant never had any errors since. Ok so if you try it, just flick the DX10 preview switch, restart fsx, run the flight, ignore any scenery glitches in this first flight. If you find it's for you, then I would recommend "Steve's Scenery Fixer" it's a download costs about £18 I think off the top of my head, but it corrects all your scenery glitches and you get happy error free flying! Just a thought hope it helps.
  3. Hi all, Great to get an update from Robert on how things are progressing, I'm sure the 747v2 will be amazing just like the 777 is. I notice nothing to report on the DC6 :( is work still progressing on this project as I know Robert said it was a "back burner" kind of project were things get done on an as and when time allows basis. I'm quite interested in this one as it's something outside of the norm for PMDG and there aren't that many really good quality fsx propliners out there. Anyway thanks again for the update.
  4. Hi all, I love these threads about your worst add-ons they usually get stopped within a very short time, but this one is running..............I think because people are being sensible. Weird I know! So the only add-on I kind of regret buying last year was the Just Flight L1011 Tristar. It was also the only one I bought on release day too. I think the Tristar is a truly remarkable aircraft and has been so forgotten in flight sim. So I was thrilled when Just Flight said they were making one. The exterior model is very nice, nothing wrong with that in my opinion, the interior is fine too, not such great textures as CS and PMDG etc but still ok. However what really let it down in my eyes was the lack of functionality in the panels, especially the flight engineers panel where you don't even need to turn on certain systems for them to work in flight. The Tristar does however feature a fully working INS system, which is another reason I bought it, to try and learn this navigation system. I assume it's the Delco INS system from Simufly.com, it works fine and actually works better than some of Just flights own panels! The flight dynamics don't seem quite right too, it sinks alot in a hard turn, like 1000-3000ft/min which I'm sure it shouldn't do. Just flight did release a patch or sp1 whatever you want to call it, which corrected some issues but not the ones I mention here, shame really. I do still fly it sometimes for a change but not as often as I should! Someone here mentioned wishing they hadn't bought CS707, GSX, and REX4 Textures. I have all of these and have had no problems with them at all, they all work brilliantly. I don't have a super computer either, just an i3 running Windows7-64bit and I'm very happy with it. Could these problems be caused by not turning off Security features or using a download manager in the case of REX4 during the download process. In the past I have found that has caused a majority of any problems I have encountered in FSX. Thing's I did encounter in the three mentioned above are these, CS707 the Master Avionics wouldn't turn on when loaded so the radio's wouldn't work, and the trim was a bit erratic, cured by setting a button on the yoke for Avionics and using my Cessna trim wheel to get really accurate trim. GSX works great for all airports where as AES which was mentioned only works at add-on airports, so not quite sure how you can compare any functionality between the two, as one does 100% of the airports and the other 50-60%! Rex4 Textures, I haven't had a single problem with this product at all. It isn't a weather engine and there has been some confusion as to whether or not it is a Rex Essentials upgrade. It isn't on both counts, at the minute you still need Rex Essentials for your weather engine but don't install the textures use Rex 4 for that. Their forum is very helpful and they have answered all questions quickly too.. That's it sorry to go on, but we were asked to be constructive with any criticism given in this thread.
  5. Fjsharry, I would buy the A2A B377 before waiting for the DC6. I mean no disrespect to PMDG but I think you might get alot of mileage out of it before the DC6 comes along in my opinion, maybe even have to service your new B377 a few times too! It will be great to have another high quality large prop, I hope for FSX in my case but others will want it for P3Dv2 I bet. Well I guess you can practice your navigation and routes in the B377 first before the DC6 appears.
  6. Hi Jason, Thanks for the comment, lol, made me smile that. Do you think RSR might wait until after you finish the DC6 before he fires you? I was watching a great video on youtube all about the restoration of the Red Bulls DC6 and got me wondering, as it led a previous life looking just like your DC6 lovely paint job it carried in Africa.................Maybe your DC6 will come with Pre and Post Red Bulls colours, mmmmm. Happy Flying guys,
  7. Hi all, Happy new year to you all, and thank you Robert for the news on the 777-300 and 744v2. While I realise the forums get flooded with questions about, when will this be out or that be finished which I know get very annoying at times I noticed there is no mention of the DC6 in the update news mentioned by Robert at Christmas. I know PMDG won't release any release dates, that's not what I am asking. All I'd like to know is whether the DC6 is still being worked on, as I remember it being one of those projects that is an "As and when, we have time" project. That's it, all I wanted to ask. Thank you and Happy flying.
  8. Hi Ryan, Interesting post. Why is the 777 worth $90 well I guess you have to repay all the hard work that went into making the model, and there are only a small number of folks going to buy it I guess. The 777 is really an amazing aircraft, flies beautifully either by hand or autopilot/fmc controlled. The detail is just amazing and it's great to fly long haul using the time compression feature. London to San Francisco in about 4 hours is amazing. Not sure if that's allowed on Vatsim though as I don't fly online! It really is very immersive. However if your looking to learn about flying tubeliners then there is a learning curve to get the most out of it, though you don't need to learn it all to do a decent job of a flight, just some of the basics will do. If you worried about the cost but are looking for something PMDG quality for medium/long haul but not costing $90 have you considered the PMDG MD11. It's a bit different to all the Boeing's out there, actually flies slightly faster than an Airbus or Boeing, has all the features and automation that the 777 has, although not such deep failure simulation. Ok it's an older model, so the VC isn't quite as HD as the 777 but it's easy on the FPS and is in my opinion as much fun to fly as the 777. Hope this helps, Regards.
  9. Hi MarkVcz, I had almost the exact same thing happening with the 777 flying from EGBB to OMDB Birmingham to Dubai, either got the OOM on approach, touchdown or even once taxing to the gate. I run GEX, UTX and REX too, and never had an issue with my MD11 or 747 on long haul flights, and never got any OOM's! After reading the posts here about DX10 I flicked the switch and tried a couple of flights, just to see, saw the odd texture issue but then decided it was worth buying "Steve's Scenery Fixer" which solved all my texture issues. I've been using DX10 for a few months now and have to say it's brilliant. OK my fps aren't huge high teens to low twenties but fsx is silky smooth, which is what counts in my book. And those sun sets are to die for now! Anyway no more OOM's and last weekend flew Heathrow to San Francisco and San Francisco to Philadelphia both with real world weather and the 777 and no OOM's. I really do think DX10 is a step forward in keeping fsx alive, and I'm sure you won't be disappointed when you switch. It took me about 15mins to set up the scenery fixer when I bought it, it's really easy to do!
  10. The only thing I haven't been able to do is start the engines from the aircraft controls, only using Con+E+1,2 which I hate, but it's so wonderful to fly I forgive it that. Remember to turn on the fuel levers above your head though when starting, there are six of them! Worked out how to do the radio's the other day, lol. Also worth checking out for updates, as they made a few a while back, things like making both sections of the rudder work together on each side of the tail boom etc.
  11. Hi all, I liked you quote Rob, hahahaha Wasn't my intention to stir the pot and get the post locked, lol. I thought it might be nice to just ask the question and see where the thread went. I have the deepest respect for all our simming friends out there. I just sometimes get fed up with the "your doing it wrong" with no explanation of why. Also the "This is rubbish" but don't tell us why it's rubbish. "I have this because it's the latest" I must have the latest! Why? I have tried to stay away from listing my own experiences here, as I wanted the thread to be about the attitude of the simmers. I only run an i3 processor, it runs FSX and all the aircraft, PMDG, A2A, Majestic, scenery UTX, GEX,, FlyTampa, GSDT and weather REX too, it runs EFB as well. The thing is I haven't spent a fortune updating the PC to run it all on, One graphic card update for a new monitor and changed to Windows7x 64bit and thats it. Thing is it works, no tweak's overclocking, no CTD's or OOM's either. Except when I bought the 777 and flew to third party airports, but I cured that by trying DX10!! I don't spend ages and ages tweaking and fiddling and rebuilding my PC each time something better appears. I enjoy what I have! If I was going to update to a new sim, in my eyes that would only happen if A, my computer died and I have to buy a new one, so then update, although thinking about it I would just update the hardware and run FSX still most likely. or B, someone produced something earth shatteringly good which didn't involve me binning everything I have now. I'm not sure why I would buy another sim, and still use the old one just to keep the older addon's. Why not just keep the older sim? Anyway, interesting comments thanks guys, I'm enjoying reading them all
  12. Hi all, I had those early jets, Trident, Comet and BAC 1-11 from DM running in fsx, someone made some VC's for them and posted the complete aircraft in the library here at Avsim. worth a look, they flew well too considering when they originated. Eventually I uninstalled them as I wanted more realistic A2A level aircraft in my fsx set up. One freeware plane I haven't seen mentioned is the Noratlas from Project Noratlas, it's a french military transport, twin engined, Bristol engines I think, sounds wonderful and flies nice too. the VC isn't to be sniffed at being very good in my opinion. Still holding out for the DC6 from PMDG one day though!
  13. Hi Bonan, If your looking for civilian airliners from the 50/60's you could try the Flight1 DC2, which might be a bit old for your era, although they would have still been used then. It does feature better system modelling than the Just Flight DC3 in my opinion. You might want to look at the Flight1 BN2 islander as I think I read somewhere that the first one is getting on for 50 years old and in the process of being restored. You'd have to check the history. Although this one doesn't have an old pre-GPS cockpit only a modern one. If you wanted a Jet from that era the Captain Sim 707 is actually quite good and has good systems, but how accurately they work is beyond my experience. It's nice to fly and has lots of features, including a 2d popup INS system which works too. They also do a 727 and 737 but I don't have those ones myself only the 707. Milviz also do a 737 if you want an early one! PMDG are also working on a DC6 which will be released when they are ready but no news on that one for a while. Some nice pics on their forum pages here at Avsim! I hope that gives you some ideas.
  14. Hi all, Thankyou Tim_Capps, that was exactly my point in the original post. It doesn't matter which sim your flying, the reason your flying it, is because you personally think it's the best one, for you. It doesn't matter if it's fs9 because you like the freeware stuff as someone mentioned above, fsx because there are a ton of addons, P3D because you think it has more future then fsx and works better or xplane because the aerodynamics are said to be the best there is. Some will want to use whichever sim is the latest, just because it is the latest must have out there. Some will be using older sims because they work best for them and they are happy with them. It really doesn't matter which we use so long as were happy with what we have. I think reading the posts after my OP I was trying to ask why people have to try and justify their sim as being the best, it really doesn't matter which one we fly so long as we enjoy the experience of flying..............Isn't that what our hobby is all about, enjoying the flying and not bashing our fellow simmers. All I was asking for is some respect to others, it's sadly lacking in the world today unfortunately. If there is an opinion to be aired, please do, I'm not suggesting we stop commenting but also put the reasons why you think that way. "I don't like X because A,B,C isn't right" instead we get "I don't like X because it's rubbish!" mmmmm I don't think it's much to ask for us all to switch on the brain before making comments, is it! Anyway, if there are any more comments, please do, they make interesting reading. Thank you all for commenting.
  15. Hi Ron, Ok well I guess your problem as your trying to describe it, is this. Your restarting your pc from sleep mode but your assignments appear to not be recognised for your rudder, yoke etc, even though you haven't unplugged anything! I'm afraid I don't know any of the technical language for what your experiencing but it sounds like FSUIPC isn't waking up when your pc does. I guess if your in fsx then you could click on the FSUIPC tab under addon's in the top menu bar and just click the button or axis assignment in FSUIPC and see if that wakes it up. There is probably an answer on Peter Dowsons Forum for FSUIPC he's very helpful. Look at http://forum.simflight.com/forum/30-fsuipc-support-pete-dowson-modules and see if there is any info here too. Sorry I can't be more help.
  16. Hi all, I was just reading through the thread on PMDG's announcement regarding their proposal's to include P3D in their licence arrangements in the future, mmmmm I thought very interesting news in this hobby of our's. Then I started to scroll down and read the comments and the first dozen or so were constructive questions etc, until we got down to the "Fsx is a pile of rubbish, at last I can buy PMDG for P3D now". This is the kind of nastiness that seems to be creeping into the forums here. The PMDG forums before the 777 was released being a typical example of me me me me when will I get it, etc...............Well the simple answer is when developer decides to release it! It's really that simple!! This set my mind thinking, and I realise people are like that in everyday life too. Every body wants things now. Nobody cares for anyone else anymore. We all live in a world driven by this kind of mentality. In our hobby for example there doesn't just seem to be people happy with fsx or P3D or Xplane who all come here for help and advice with their own setup. Now we seem to be turning into people who have to shout loudest and many times rudest, to force their own opinions on the rest of us. If people prefer P3D then great, for them. Some prefer Xplane great for them too. I prefer fsx, but I don't go round saying the others are rubbish, there not by the way! I prefer fsx, because it works well with my system, looks stunning is stable and I have too many addons collected over the years to throw away on a whim that some other platform is better! I hope that some common sense might prevail here and we can all get back to doing what we do best, and that's enjoying our hobby, offer advice and help to those who ask for it and respect all the people who come here. PLEASE! I understand the staff here must have a hard job to do, it can't be easy to keep all the children under control, but I do think Avsim has a bright future as it offers a whole range of help and advice and reviews in all our flight sim platforms which is great, a real one stop shop. Long may it continue. Now if we can all just be a bit more respectful and grown up maybe we can all get back to enjoying flying! You know the worst thing with any flight sim is not the aircraft, platform, computer, addons or anything like that.....................It's the pilots!
  17. Hi all, Wasn't sure whether to post here or in a new topic, feel free to move these comments to their correct place if need be! Nice thread about compatible DX10 airports. Now that the Scenery fixer is out, are these issues reported in the thread still valid or have they all been sorted, thanks to the scenery fixer? Also Interested as I have FT VHHX and OMDB, Also Aerosoft Munich and Dutch Airports and GSDT Geneva and all seem to be ok. But I have only recently switched to DX10 though, so still trying day and night flights to these places. Are the issues with FlightBeam San Francisco still there, that likely being a future destination for my 777 if the scenery works well in DX10. Have to say, I think FSX in DX10 mode, is the best kept secret in the FSX community still, lol. Regards.
  18. Hi rpowers, You didn't mention in your post if your using FSUIPC or not? I think though I'm no expert that your problem is to do with unplugging your yoke, pedals etc from your system when not in use. When you plug them back in I believe you lose the settings. Something to do with your system not recognising that when you plug the units back in they are the same ones as removed last time. If you use FSUIPC, then it is possible to assign each piece of hardware a name, so that when you unplug things from your computer and plug them back in again, the settings are remembered. Anyway, hope this helps and someone more knowledgeable can verify my comments. Regards.
  19. Hi, I agree with Groovin_DC-10, the whole thing can get so immersive, especially if you use REX or GEX, UTX or in my case all three, I just sit there in the cruise staring out the window at the amazing scenery out there in FSX world! Well I don't want to be a slave to the instruments when the computers flying anyway! When you think about it, there isn't much original FSX left, we replace the airports, the planes, scenery, landclass, sky, clouds, and winds...........to improve things out there, so lets all enjoy the view!
  20. Hi all, I had the dreaded OOM's on touchdown or finals with the 777, an amazing plane truly wonderful. I switched over to DX10 recently and flew all my long flights, usually EGBB to OMDB, not long for a 777 admittedly but long enough for me, and since switching to DX10 no more OOM's brilliant. So the 777 is good to go, just need to fly some more long distance, when time allows, something long to really test my system!! Thinking EGBB to San Francisco would do nicely, might have to look into some scenery for the airport there!
  21. Hi KillaBee, Glad you managed to sort out the issues you were having with your 777. Hope you get many hours of trouble free flying!
  22. Hi Graeme, Well glad you managed to get some long haul flights in using the 777. I have to admit that I don't have the scenery you mentioned, I have East Midlands and Birmingham Extreme from UK2000 and haven't noticed any issues up to now, EGLL I have the UK2000 VFR airfields, so I will try and visit there over the next few days, although I usually try and avoid the London airports as they slow my frames down too much. Although now I'm using DX10 I might have to try them again. Hope you find a fix soon.
  23. Hi KillaBee, There has been problems with the 777 and FSUIPC since the 777 came out. Different people seem to experience different problems it seems, usually they only seem to be confined to the engine axis. It would be worth you checking on Peter Dowson's forum page for FSUIPC as he did find a fix for the engines, in which you assign the axis in FSUIPC but don't use the calibration in FSUIPC option. If I remember you can't have the reverse thrust set up as part of the axis, only as the button at the bottom of the throttle quadrant. Also there is something to change in the FSUIPC module in your fsx folder. http://forum.simflight.com/forum/30-fsuipc-support-pete-dowson-modules/ That's just the link to the forum, you'll have to search through for anything on the 777. Also remember there is a procedure as suggested in the PMDG manual for the engines, which says you should bring the throttle up to 55% N1 and then use TOGO on takeoff. Once airborne your physical throttle levers should be set to max and left there until descent, then as the autothrottle retards to IDLE it will change to HOLD and then you should return the physical throttles back to idle until landing. Hope this helps some.
  24. Hi Jewel, Yep flew OMDB to VHHX today both FlyTampa including a hold over Hong Kong and no OOM, brilliant and when I landed in Kai Tak there was a strong side wind and waves in the harbour! Never saw that in DX9 mode before. So yep very very impressed with DX10 mode still. Only thing I have found not working is the tool tips in full screen mode when I have both screens set to fsx one VC the other spot view! Guess I will just have to learn where all those switches are. They do work in windowed mode, just I'm not keen on windowed mode!
