  1. THEREFORE: You could improve performance by removing a fragmented pagefile and re-creating it in a way so that it doesn't subsequently fragment. You'd do this by creating a static pagefile, which has the same minimum and maximum size. This prevents the operating system from dynamically resizing the pagefile -- it's the dynamic resizing that causes an unfragmented pagefile to become fragmented. Note: a SSD is different to a Mechanical HD The access time on a SSD is (almost) the same for any part of the SSD, as there is no mechanical movement necessary. Therefore, while a SSD can get Fragmented, there is "little" or no performance slow down when a SSD gets "Fragmented" . So, if your Page File is on a SSD, in theory, there is little difference in a static or dynamic Page file. However, if the Page file is Dynamic, the OS will need to manage that dynamic size, and that takes a finite time, So, in theory, a Static SSD Page File will be faster than a Dynamic SSD page file -- although that difference will be very very small !!
  2. i LOVE it, so I'm staying. Always Entertaining :t0152:
  3. If someone has already mention FSUIP, I missed it, so here goes. ( 1 ) Install the lastest version of FSUIPC, It will prevent certain crashes, (See FSUIPC documentation for details) .. THANKS PETER. ( 2 ) The CORRECT version of uiautomationcore.dll WILL prevent crashes due to excessive view changes. Does not hurt to occasionally run a dedicated memory test/ stress test program, like Memtest86 Pro. Yes, memory can start to fail over time, and if it does, and it will lead to all manner of issues , especially when running programs like FSX. In my case. ( a ) Laptop developed a bad memory stick after about 2 years. ( b ) New Desktop, with high quality, high speed Ram, had one of 3 sticks bad, from day 1. ( Discovered after much frustration about day 60 ! ) It does happen ...
  4. I really cannot believe that this discussion is still going on, and in the PMDG forum of all places. It would appear that PMDG has made the Business decision, at this time, not to produce some of their products for the P3D market. END OF STORY. That is their right .. just as it is the consumer's right to decide if they wish to purchase PMDG product or not. Why does this need to be brought up every week. It does no good at all. "DADT".
  5. It seems I have 2 MOMMIES and I don't remember my Daddy, he left so long ago. Mommy 1 : FSX Mommy 2 : P3D However, neither of my Mommies will tell me anything about their relationship, so I am just a mixed up Kid, wondering what the world is coming to, and what sort of future I have.
  6. Wow !! I don't feel so bad now Why do I like FS = FS Avgas is $0.00 / gal ( so I just have to pay for equipment maintenance etc)
  7. Yes, 100% Freight and mostly short flights to difficult locations.
  8. You may need to get some TIN FOIL, to keep those Alien from controlling your mind, or your computer !!
  9. ROFL, YES, any more than 2 minutes of pre-flight preparation must be a real waste of time if you are a Pro, and already know what you are doing. Gotta get up in the and FLY !!! Worry about getting down later
  10. Its not Theory, its FACT, from a King Air Pilot, flying Freight in Canada, Who said anything about the King Air even being fitted with a G1000 , or even a serviceable Auto_pilot. ? It's not a question of "not Installing" -- more disabling the servos (and autopilot), to cut maintenance costs on "unnecessary" equipment. Welcome to the REAL WORLD of cut-throat competition in the Canadian Air Haulage business. If you think that's rubbish, fine, -- I assume you must believe you know more that the pilot who actually flies the plane in the example I gave.
  11. I would have thought the main reason is because, making the Links to Wikipedia takes time, and a decision as to what should be linked, and what should not, FSX is Linked 777 is linked 737 is NOT linked 747 is NOT linked Also, someone has to decide what should be linked, and what should not, and then do it, and then face the complaints because other think they should have Linked this, and not that !! (ie this Topic ) IMHO Less is better .. you can always cut-paste "anything" you want into Wikipedia. - so there is little need so that many items to be links within Avsim. A lot to be said for the "KISS" principle and "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"
  12. Going back to the original question - ATIS information is available in multiplayer sessions. If you lookup the ATIS frequency for the airport (try airnav.com), and tune your radio to the listed frequency you will get a voice and text ATIS notice. There is a "bug", in that you only get the information for airports that were within 50 miles of your start point, or the last point since you refreshed scenery.
  13. If on autopilot, you can always set simrate to x2, x4, x8 to get past the "Boring Bits", ( unless that's not allowed : ie you are playing VAs and FS Passenger etc ) Or you can always listen to "Sky Blue Radio", or "Flight Level Radio", read a book, watch TV (yawn), or find something else useful to do.
  14. I have no insight as to what PMDG did or didn't do, but I suspect they matched the 6.5 seconds to get to 40% N1 time, as you so clearly showed in your graph, and as you describe, was confirmed as being "realistic" by a real world 737 captain at some time in a post. Maybe, due to the limitation is FSX modeling of the engine, if you adjust those airfile parameters that are availabe to you, so that "time to 40% N1" is correct, you have to live with the resulting overall response, as coded within FSX's modeling. Noby has ever claimed that FSX's turbine modeling was that great !! However, all wild guesswork on my behalf, based on what evidence you have presented, and a wet finger stuck up in the air.
  15. (1) Above graph is a Classic Step response to step input ( Blue input) (2) What you graph shows is a result of a more linear input , as throttle is move over a finite time. (3) With the non-step input, one would get ( to a first approximation) , graphs very similar to what you have. (4) The Difference now on your graph, is the loop gain K. It would appear that PMDG have too low a gain ("under damped" - "no overshoot") , and the Real world, is as expected, optimized to "Critical damping",(ie slight Overshoot) gain of Kp, Ki, & Kd, which results in reaching the desired stable, end point, in the minimum of time. This is only first approximation,, There is obvious a lot more going on in this "Control System", and the way the Real World Engine Management Computer operates, but the major difference you are seeing between the PMDG, and "your" real world measurements, are most probably attributable to the Loop Gains K. ( Kp, Ki & Kd) ==== BTW: A very impressive piece of "In the Field" measurement. Also, not easy to get to be a spectator in a cockpit during takeoff, since 911. Gone are the "good old days" :(
  16. Did you even try GOOGLE: FSX missing ATIS http://www.google.com/#bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&fp=b1d813dbd780d14c&q=google+FSX+missing+atis Very little point in reproducing it all here, when there is so much Info about this well know issue, out there already.
  17. What on earth are you running there ?? Packard Bell i11 ?? 64gb ram !!! Nvidia 99000 ?? ( Nvidia 9900 ?) Windows ME 64 ?? (ME ?? )
  18. Why the quest for speed ?? Flights too long, and you are getting bored ? Try flying in a busy Multiplayer session, and correctly using checklists, and flying to a prepared plan, and you may wish for something a little SLOWER, so you can keep up.
  19. Way too much Testosterone floating about in here. Why do so many posting here have to be so aggressive & argumentative ? No wonder so few females get into Flight Sim.
  20. Sigh -- Amazing what incorrect conclusions some people can jump to, when they don't even bother to read what they are looking at, before they shoot off a forum post !! But all publicity is GOOD Publicity so, go ahead -- always ready for a good laugh
  21. ₤55 (320GBs) sounds a little high, even for prices in the UK. I would hope for that price it was 7200rpm and not 5400rpm What is the laptop make & model ? For example, a 7200rpm 320Gb drive in the USA is more like $57 (₤37) http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4691182&CatId=1277
  22. Well, why can't you just INFORM the Vatsim Ground controller, that there is a follow car ahead of you, expecting you to follow him, and ask the controller if you can follow the Follow car instead, to the gate he assigned you. If he says YES, great -- go ahead. If he says NO, and you still want to use your "Follow Car" , disconnect from Vatsim, and proceed as you wish. Simple as that !
  23. Get a replacement BIGGER drive for the laptop. With the new, bigger drive, you have the option to get a FASTER drive, maybe the old one was 5400rpm ? get a 7500rpm, or even go for a solid state drive. As already stated by others, USB external drives are going to be too slow for FSX. A new SSD might put new life into the Laptop !! If you are lucky, your Laptop might even have the capacity for a 2nd internal drive... my 2 year old ACER Aspire Laptop did.
