  1. Went through my fsx.cfg and these are my tweaks, if it is much I do not know but if I remove them things start happen: [Display] TextureMaxLoad=24 Some param for calc of textures sent RUNWAY_LIGHTS_SURFACE_SCALAR=0.7 these are just cosmetic, no performance. Looks a little better. RUNWAY_LIGHTS_VASI_SCALAR=0.7 RUNWAY_LIGHTS_APPROACH_SCALAR=0.7 RUNWAY_LIGHTS_STROBE_SCALAR=0.7 TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=80 also for calc of textures [Main] FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.25 spends less time reading scenery, slightly more FPS These two are important that you delete if you change the CPU speed, new ones are created on start of FSX ProcSpeed=8042 PerfBucket=7 If you change CPU freq and do not delete them FSX might work strange. That is my experience This I have used over a year, when I change it it always get worse [JOBSCHEDULER] AffinityMask=14 [GRAPHICS] HIGHMEMFIX=1 everyone should have it TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024 this I sometimes set to 2048 but makes no difference This made my system to work a little bit smoother, default is 1. Made FSX a little smoother. [sCENERY] MAX_ASYNC_BATCHING_JOBS=2 These two really made a difference with VAS and FPS. If you set the slider to Sparse you still have thousands of them. Someone claims that the FSX setting only affects houses. [TERRAIN] TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=800 TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=800 If I change or remove this I have a lots of spikes, have tried a lot of different settings since first time. This works best for me. [bufferPools] UsePools=1 PoolSize=8388608 RejectThreshold=98304 I always reduce liveries down to 1024, no need for bigger ones. Most of the time i am in the cockpit. Clouds are 256, yes sounds crazy but it looks better. Water too. And last is what I found reading through Kostas guide at his new own site. nVidia Inspector only takes care of the AA. Nothing else. Inside FSX I have FPS to 30, Bileaner and the Anisotropic ticked. Seems like nVidias Anisotropic does not work well with FSX. After doing these changes FPS does not fluctuate so much most of the time it is close to 30 and the whole FSX runs a lot smoother.
  2. No if you update the Ops center you only updated the Ops center files, there is a 777.dll in there if you check C:\Program Files\PMDG Operations Center This is where I have it on WinXP, on Win7 I have no idea. I can report that I have not had any kind of freezing anymore with the T7, only maybe micro stops lasting just milliseconds. But I think it is FSX reading scenery or something. Done several flights and increase settings after everyone to see if I could cause a freeze again, none so far. Last night I did a flight from ESSA Stockholm to LIRF Rome (3 hour) with only 8-10 FPS on the final and only 250 Mb VAS left, had set the scenery a little high. Waiting for a freeze or OOM msg but nothing, did a manual landing from 1000 feet without any problems. Made it to the gate also. Middle of the night in the dark. Could never do that in the past even on a FSX standard airfield. LIRF I have is a freeware, www.newscenerygroup.forumattivo.it So I have saved a lot of money, was planning to build me a new i5 machine. Did some calculations and checking out hardware the same day I first tried my little sound tweak. New machine can wait now no need for it. So I am happy and are waiting for the SP from PMDG. The 737NGX also fly a lot better, much smoother and nicer to hand fly on takeoff and approaches. Even through a lots of clouds and a lots of AIs in the area. So FSX has less load now and can do its work easy. It can also be that the onboard VIA sound I have can not take the HiFi sound at the rate FSX sends it. And you with an addon soundcard have a much faster one. So when I build a new machine I will get a sound addon card. Is Soundblaster still the best?? Or are there better ones out now?? I also like to play music when I work. /Per
  3. Yes if you have a system that can provide enough power to it all it will not freeze. Sometimes software reacts like this, hangs instead of CTD. I will continue increasing things here and there to see if I can cause a freez again. /Päe
  4. We have seen these statements before several times and a couple of posts later it says False Alarm, still freezing. But this did work on my system, have done 5 flights now with scenery settings where I want them. Weather, OpusFSX and 25% AI with My Traffic Professional latest version. Scenery is UTX + mega airports. Final test an hour ago was a night flight and landing at Mega Arlanda Stockholm with around 18+20FPS, 30 on cruise. Clouds here and there. No freezings at all. 1920x1080x32 screen setting. FSX Anisotropic and FPS limiter at 30, nVidia Inspector takes care of the AA. No FPS limiter there. I run on WinXP 32, yes 14 years old but also 14 years of bugfixing. Anyway..... After a lot of research, tweakings and settings... yea you know what I mean. I still had freezing now and then with enough VAS 7-800 Mb. Lowering all kind of scenery settings until it looked terrible, noting helped. Flying at night was impossible, just forget it. Night lights takes a little bit more power. I noticed that when I disabled all AI traffic I had no freezing at all. So what is in common!?, yep The sound. AI also uses sound, so I first set SOUND_LOD=1. Makes the AI use just some standard boring sound. And I had less freezes. Must be something with the sound. Then I saw this little param in fsx.cfg, seen it every time I open fsx.cfg, at the top, but did not pay any attention to it. Because during freezes the sound continued, only the screen was locked. [sOUND] SOUND_QUALITY=2 Could not find any FSX->Settings about sound quality. So after surfing around I found out that: 2 = High quality 1 = Mid 0 = Low quality, sounds terrible. Unusable. So I have my set to 1, SOUND_QUALITY=1. This did it. I also gained some FPS, around 5-10 more. FSX is also a lot smoother in general and with the T7 it is a very big difference. More clouds, better and stable weather and so on... List is long with improvments. Why? Because sound also takes resources from the CPU, so I think with max quality FSX sound and screen render system had a fight about CPU time and the screen render lost and gave up, locked or went in to some never ending loop. So you out there with freezes try setting SOUND_QUALITY=1 I do not hear any difference, but I only have a couple of desktop Logitech speakers. VIA onboard 5.1 system on a ASUS motherboard. I build all my machines myself, done that for the last 30 years. I am also a programmer/developer since 35+ years. Would be great if you can come back and report your findings. If someone want to know about my machine/hardware and whole setup just let me know and I will post the list. Per W Sweden

    777 freezing

Just some info about these freezes. The exact same thing happen to me with Euro Truck Sim 2 (latest version) a couple of weeks ago!!! That scenery part was a little demanding, at night with many light sources and roads. Very close to Copenhagen. A could feel the FPS went down, it was a little sluggish in the steering. Screen froze but sound continued, horn worked, changing gears worked. I heard the engine change rev. I turned the steering wheel into opposite lane and heard horns from the AI cars and then crash boom into something. So I start to suspect that nVidia just stops responding, have tried many driver versions from very old to latest. But why are there no problems at all with the latest state of the art games like Sniper 2, Call of Duty, GTA, MAFIA and so on. Must be the way older games are talking to the graphic cards. And when they push the card to hard it just stops responding. ETS 2 have some years on it neck, if you count from the very first Truck sim they released. So a couple of question: You out there with freezes are you running nVidia cards? And you without any freezes are you running something else? What if so? Just some input. Looking forward to the SP1 (or what it will be called), hopefully there are some new settings to reduce the demands on the CPU and GPU. I do not have any problems with VAS. /Per W
  6. Here is a cool Follow Me car, works with all airplanes except Heavy. It can not find Heavy gates or parkings. It is for free. http://www.fscaptain.net/ Press File Exchange under Navigation on left side Then Utilities Extras and Fixes The file is (do not recall) FollowMe2_final.zip or FollowMe2_finalE.zip Take both and check them out. All you need to know is the Gate or parking number. Then just follow the car. I use it quite a lot. You can also use it to get to the RW from Gate. /Per

    777 freezing

My hangs/freezes even with UT2 disabled. No AI at all, all sliders in FSX own Traffic panel is to the very far left. Also Labels is turned off, known to create trouble. The only thing that made the freezes happen less often is: reduced Mesh Res from 38 to 76 meters and install 256 clouds, lower the cloud density to one notch below max, =High. I have 7-800 Mb free VAS and FPS is around 25-30 when it freezes. I use FSUIPC VAS monitor on the title bar. And no AI at all. I thought that 256 clouds would look terrible but it really looks OK. Hard to see the difference, maybe look even more natural. So to me it looks like when the graphic module in FSX is pushed to hard it goes into some loop. The memcard mem is only around 400 Mb in a freeze, normaly it is around 6-700 Mb on a flight. Using GPU-Z. So it looks like something stops shipping data to the card. That maybe explains why the sim still responds in the background, sound is still there and it reacts on inputs. I also run T7 with NO tick in the High Res VC. Still looks OK not big difference, except gaining some VAS. I also make sure that I have only the Dep and Dest + some scenery i fly over in the scenery.cfg. I use Junction Link Magic to spread my whole installation over 2 SSDs from Intel. /Per Sweden

    Smoke effect

Try this: http://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/files/17843/fsx-effects-package-12/ I installed it and to me it looks like it reduced the effects or at least made the effects less outstanding. Why it is still around even when standing still is one of the famous FSX bugs. Just some tweaked files in the /effects folder. Give it a try and come back. Backup the originals first or rename them. /Per Sweden

    PFPX and WIND DATA

Opus does not have any ATIS. Radarcontact have it, I have that one. Or it might be the new ATC, PRO-ATC. Or maybe VOXAtc. If I hear it I might recognize it. I have not yet subscribed to the AOA training. Or Maybe they just use a real recorded ATIS in the movie. Is there any kind of console window somewhere on the screen in the training videos. Or text strip at the top. A screendump might help to figure out what they are using. /Per Sweden

    PFPX and WIND DATA

Maybe this answer it, read post #3. It is from the programmer of PFPX: http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/topic/73359-forecast-weather-and-its-impact-on-long-flights/ -Per

    PFPX and WIND DATA

I think it depends on how often NOAA updates the GRIB data they use. It is better if you ask the developers directly, they for sure know things like this. But I think GRIB(high level winds) are just forecasts that is valid for many hours, exact how many I am not sure of. And when NOAA updates it what happens!? No idea. I do think that Opus downloads new GRIB when they come and use it. PFPX should also do that. What weather engine are you using? Opus downloads direct from NOAA everytime it needs some. Ask here, OpusFSX: http://www.simforums.com/forums/opus-software_forum49.html PFPX: http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/forum/592-pfpx-professional-flight-planner-x/ /Per W Sweden
  13. Anyway I am happy with using FSPX (great tool) for planning then EFB for SID/STAR (also a great tool) planning and export the route from PFPX to all places where I need it and then save the FP printout from PFPX as an PDF (PDFCreator, free tool). Then shutdown everything. If I need some tool during flight FSCommander works OK, mostly for checking the ILS in FMC/Rad Nav during appr. in case weather have changed and I must use another RW. This VAS discussion is not on my level. I am a programmer/developer since 30+ years. But low level Windows mem management is not something I have working with or checked up a lot. Maybe I am just running out of memory in general when I start EFB so there is no room for the VAS, I do not know!? Mem works as it does on my machine and I have to live with that. Will not go and spend 10 000 Skr on new hardware just to be able to fly the T7. I do have a Win7 64 in my bookshelf and could install in on my machine. It passed all the Compatibility tests but I know my CPU is to weak and to little phys mem 4Gb. Better to save money for a new machine and wait a year or two for Win7 to have some more fixes or SP. Some day I will have a Win7 64bit system. That is for sure, but nor right now just to run T7 and lots of addons. When I fly the 777 it is the primary goal, scenery and stuff like that is at the bottom of the list and can go away. I think I will try to create a little video to show that it is possible to fly T7 on WinXP 32bit with decent scenery and ok FPS. /Per W Sweden
  14. I also have the FSUIPC VAS display. So why does that numbers go up when I for eg. exits FSCommander. And if I try to run EFB Client it drops down so that I end up with a OOM in FSX. I am on WinXP so the VAS might be handled in a different way then in Win7. No idea. Just wrote about my experience. /Per W Sweden
  15. Do not use Cold n Dark panel state. I use the Short and it seams to work. For me anyway. There are some problems with the C & D state. I had strange things going on when I used C&D state Try some of the other. Otherwise something is wrong with your setup. /Per W Sweden
  16. It is the Client (display) that takes that much. If I had one more machine I would use that one for the client. /Per W Sweden

    PFPX and WIND DATA

As Ryan is saying, no need to update the whole time. GRIB data from NOAA that Opus uses is not updated very often. Not sure how often but I can check with them at their forum. One more thing is that if you have PFPX and OpusFSX they both use the same data source, NOAA. So the forecast in PFPX match up with what you get in FSX from Opus. So far it have been almost spot on for me. Even when FSX drifts a little sometimes but after an update from Opus it is back on track. One thing they did in the latest Beta with T7 is to turn off time compression(Auto Cruise) during weather updates. FSX might not be updated properly if it runs in eg. x4 during an weather update. When it is done it sets back T7s Auto Cruise to what it was. You also get two apps in one. Cameras and weather. /Per W Sweden
  18. Strange! I run the T7 on my "old" WinXP 32 Core2 Quad 4Gb mem and /3G switch without any problems. No hangings, no freez, the OOM is gone. No need for high res scenery at 38000 feet. I have UTX, GEX. UT2 and OpusFSX. My scenery.cfg only contains the area and airports (MEGA no problem) I am flying between. Everything in the scenery.cfg is loaded even if you are on the other side of the planet. FSX is an very old construction (programming style). It is doing everything by itself, today games uses the GPU a lot but they did not exist when MS started what ended with FSX. After I did a big cleaning of my scenery.cfg my VAS went up. Now at MEGA Arlanda I have 800 Mb free in the T7 at the gate. That is enough. You will never have any use for the 12Gb to FSX. It just can not use that much, maybe you can have a lots of external addons running at the same time but never to FSX. FSX uses 4Gb max if you are on Win7. The only things that makes FSX run fast and good are a very fast CPU, fast memory (low timing) and fast disks like SSDs. That is all. No need for the latest hottest graphic card with lots of mem, 1 Gb is enough. Max I have ever seen it use is around 600Mb. About VAS. I have stopped using EFB with the T7 because it takes more then 700Mb of VAS. And that VAS FSX needs. Now I do a very deep planning before flying and use PFPX to do that and prints all to a PDF doc. Download that little utility ProcessExplorer that PMDG writes about in the Intruduction manual. With that I found some Services in windows that took a lots of VAS. So that tool is great. I found some processes that was just eating mem, like check for new version of the bla. bla. app. Just my opinion. Will stick to my Core2 WinXP because it works great. No strange and stupid errors as I read about in this forum and others. T7 have worked as a clock from day one, except some OOM. Yes, but they have been cured with ease. As I said above no need for tons for houses, trees and super scenery in a airliner high up. When I like to sniff low on cool scenery then I take a single or twin to do that. Many out there seems to think that if they spend a lots of money to get the hottest hardware then they can load all cool scenery they have installed and addons at max and then fly a plane like the T7. FSX is just an old tired 32-bit app. But PMDG have done a very great job to make the T7 work on it. I hope that someone somewhere will port or do something to make FSX be a true 64-bit app using the GPU and so on. Then we are talking. I have my hopes to P3D. But until then I will stick to my old machine. Some say that WinXP is 12 years old. True! But also 12 years of bug fixing!! Instead of tons of new features. Just my opinion. /Per W Sweden

    PFPX and WIND DATA

FYI OpusFSX have already implemented the wind data file for 777. It creates one for your FP if the dir PMDG/WX exists automaticly and you have entered a FP into Opus. Just press Request in the T7s FMC. No need for any manual work. Best weather I have ever had, all other weather engines are deleted from my system. No problems at all for me with it and the T7. /Per W Sweden
  20. I had RAAS before I installed the T7. Got it with Aerosofts AB Extended but had it disabled in dll.xml . And in the T7 FMC setup it was enabled, nothing happend. T7 just worked without any problem. /Per
  21. This is how that entry in dll.xml looks like: <Launch.Addon> <Name>RAASPRO</Name> <Disabled>False</Disabled> <ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad> <Path>.\RAASPRO\RAASPRO.dll</Path> <DllStartName>module_init</DllStartName> <DllStopName>module_deinit</DllStopName> </Launch.Addon> If you open dll.xml in some text editor (Notepad or Notepad++) and change the line: <Disabled>False</Disabled> to <Disabled>True</Disabled> It does as it says, Disable that addon. It will not load it when you start FSX Try it. It works I use it the whole time to disable things I do not use in fsx now and then. Things works the same in exe.xml. Or just delete the whole section above if you want to remove it forever. Disable is a little better in case you want the sexy voice back. /Per W Sweden
  22. Click with Right mouse button on the Hotspot for the AT. The one you left-click on takeoff for the AT. There is a little Tooltip there that explains it all. Middle button is disconnect AT. /Per Sweden
  23. Hi Read here and check their forum http://www.opussoftware.co.uk/opusfsi.htm I have it and it is just Great. It does not invent weather like AS, it uses the Metars all around as they are. Metar is Gospel to them. I now have the best weather and realistic then ever seen. On the spot when I look outside my window and compare to what is inside FSX. Also an great Live Camera with outstanding DHM Dynamic Head Movements that have sent my EZDOC to the trashbin. /Per W Sweden
