  1. All these FSX screens that get posted make me say... wow Flight really does look good! lol
  2. What I'm hoping for is, shall we say, "full functionality" of both of those planes... :Nail Biting:
  3. lol @ scott The tidbit of info Ray mentioned pretty much has me back on track. Using a bit of logic I'm pretty sure I know what feature might be included, and it is something I've wanted from the start, and will make a couple of the current planes more fun to fly over long distances. For me, anyways. I do srsly hope for a nice new, faster plane with a VC. I would *love* a Dash-8 in Alaska, unless I'm wrong that is a faily popular non-bush plane there as well. But as others mentioned, at least a Caravan...
  4. When I read it, I read it as someone else said, just a basic version of the Cub, with tires and the basic panel. Not a fancy one with skis, floats, or a panel full of expensive instruments. If it is indeed exterior only, and no VC option or other planes with VC included or to buy, I will not buy Alaska, even as much as I was looking forward to it, as my only way of showing MS I do not approve.
  5. No, I am using sli, but only 1 monitor.
  6. My first one came when I was watching a slowly lumbering train in ts2012 make it's way across bland environments with only 3 "controls" (buttons) to use in "advanced" control mode... and saying to my friend "if you like this, you would *love* ms flight sim. sure wish they would make a new one". I then did a spot of Google-ing, and *gasp* there is one! And it's coming out in less than a month! I didn't even bother finishing my train route, I closed that thing down and uninstalled it lol. The next was when I first fired it up, with its slick menus, detailed planes, eyecandy graphics, inspiring music, and not a single "humorist" to be found :LMAO: The biggest one was when I was doing the lost kayaker mission. Cruising along the Na Pali coast in the Icon was pretty sweet, but then I made the first U-turn, flying back along the coast, with the morning sun glinting off imperfections in the windshield, passing amazing looking cliffs with waterfalls and streams... Then landing in the water, dropping the gear, and pulling right up onto the very same beach that is used in so many films... instant classic. I hope MS hurries up with Alaska, because I'm pretty much sitting here waiting on it, interrupted by bits of sleep and work, and flights around Hawaii of course
  7. Excellent read, and pretty much my thoughts exactly. Thanks for sharing
  8. I may be missing something totally obvious here, and search brought up 0 results, so does anyone know how to zoom the hangar view in and out? I'd like to see more than just the undercarriage of some of those planes... Tried various keys and mouse buttons to no avail.
  9. Yeah even one of my passengers commented on that... "don't you have anything besides blue?" "umm, i have a gold one" " *cough* "
  10. Agreed. A simple heading and altitude hold would be a gift from Olympus.
  11. On steam she said, when asked if it was a whole plane or a paint job for the existing one, she said "free plane"
  12. Haha I was just doing that in the Steerman before I logged to come check the forum. Bit of a squeeze to get that thing under them, but it looks awesome to see the upper wing glide right under the girders. I had a little mishap (death roll down into a canyon <_<) trying to make a hairpin turn and get back under one to continue along the beach.
  13. Me too. Ferrying hunters out to the literal middle of nowhere and maybe even going out to pick them up, while navigating canyons, would be quite a ride.
  14. The airport *is* nice looking, but I don't see any other planes hanging out on the tarmac anywhere...
  15. So loverly. I can't wait  It would *appear* they have added more weather choices, or is that "low and threatening' you think?
  16. I read about the excursions you guys made to see what was out there, looked like a big dark blue square or something. At the time I thought well that's cool, they'll just keep building the terrain a little at a time. But then I pictured seeing that as Canada or Russia and thought, surely not... lol. My seperate maps for each land pack theory came up simply from me not wanting to see that when I got near the edge of Alaska. Haha on the Russian side, maybe they will have border patrol and you'll "fail" a flight by going into their airspace.
  17. I was thinking last night about how they were going to add just Alaska to the map. Certainly it won't be an island, so when you get to the edge of it on the Canadian side, what do you think will be there? Will you be able to run over detailed (or non) terrain with nowhere to fuel up and no runways until you run out of fuel? And the same for Russia on the other side. They would have to do a lot of extra work to keep the "immersion" if they care about such a thing by filling out a tremendous amount of extra scenery, but if you're going to do all that, then why not just make the entire world. In that interview the guy said they did not plan on making the whole world, so it seems any area that isn't an island would have to have some kind of boundry, if nothing more than endless water. But how do you do that with a landmass that stretches unbroken to the tip of South America... Also, if it's on the same map as Hawaii, they couldn't include a plane that could travel that far, because it would also be able to go nearly halfway across the world in any direction, and if they didn't make Alaska an island, what would you see, unless they made all that land? The simple solution it seems, imo, would be to *not* have Alaska and Hawaii on the same map, but two seperate maps. You wouldn't be able to go from one to the other, there would be no need to include a plane that could make the distance, and you would only need scenery for a relatively small area around Alaska itself. You could also just have the state all by itself on the map, limiting the flyable area except for those that just strike out in any direction, which is likely not more than a handful. You would probably select Alaska or Hawaii from a drop down menu or something. Just throwing thoughts out there, I'd really like to know what to expect ahead of time.
  18. Right click the file, select open with, then pick notepad. It can open and edit it fine.
  19. I bet Alaska comes with 1 or 2 "deluxe" planes, maybe another one deluxe dlc, then a few more monthly "basic" ones as they lead up to the next scenery expansion. Pretty much the same as it has been so far.
  20. Esp the inland water. Seeing 4' waves in a fishing pond looks a teensy bit off haha. The water in the Alaska screens is the same. Also, the bug where you land on a dirt strip (only time it's happened for me is on dirt) during a mission and it doesn't notice. You can park on top of the destination marker and it still tells you to land. You have to esc to menu and reload checkpoint, or take off and land till it catches on.
  21. Do you guys think they will add cockpits to these planes at a later date? They would be so great with them...
  22. I just did one from Pepeekeo to Upolu, 41nm. Did it at midnight, following the coast around the big island about a mile out, 400 feet over the water, no exterior lights after takeoff until about 2 miles out from Upolu. Half a moon just above the horizon off the end of the runway, clouds "low and threatening", awesome.
  23. Thanks for all the info everyone. Armed with new information, I'm gonna go practice for the rest of the evening. I'm getting in a new controller thursday from newegg, replacing my 10 yr old cyborg stick that makes creaky noises will likely help too. :)
  24. Yeah I use my flaps, but it sounds like I do use too much power then, 40-50% sometimes, esp when the flaps are all the way down. When I do slow to the proper speed and pull the power low, I don't feel like it's going to make it to the runway, like it's gonna touchdown before I get there, even though I have 2 white lights and 2 red. I end up giving it power and pushing the nose down a bit and coming in too fast. Maybe now that I'm learning to use the traffic pattern this will sort itself out. Something else I have trouble with occasionally is flairing? too soon, then dropping 6 feet onto the runway. It's hard for me to tell when I'm at the right height above it. Is there a visual cue, or do you have to use the altimeter when landing, because I haven't been...
  25. +1 on the traffic hehe. I'm sure it will be coming. I got a laugh recently, the female cargo co-pilot said something like "aren't there usually more planes than this? i guess we can just go..." lol Tried doing a traffic pattern twice last night, at the proper altitude, in the right direction, etc, was so much better. I also did it at the right speeds, which was hard, I always land way too fast. When I'm at the right speeds it feels like it's on the verge of falling out of the sky and the nose is so high it's hard to see over, but I guess you just have to get used to it.
