  1. Ok, not a big deal by any account, was just curious if there was a quick tweak. I do agree, engine smoke on the proper plane is awesome, but I think it's fair to say they have everything exaggerated in XP11 currently. Even the included heli looks silly with all the smoke ha. I have always enjoyed the engine "heat effects" though in the XP series. Thanks for the input! Will watch and see what they change (if anything) in the final build.
  2. This is what I'm hoping will be addressed and fixed, as it's quite frustrating to be an hour or two into a flight and then BAM a crash to desktop out of the blue because of a weather update issue. Honestly, if I'm doing anything more than local flights I disable Xenviro now until this is fixed. There are some days it's every single flight it happens. Any who, a ticket has been submitted a week or two ago, hopefully the next version has some sort of fix.
  3. Greetings all! Now that XP11PB8 runs much better framerate wise than the previous builds on my machine, I am spending more time with it. One thing that I've seen mentioned and able to be fixed in the planemaker is the engine smoke of the default C172. My question is, every aircraft smokes way too much in my opinion, both stock and now when I add 3rd party planes. The engines smoke much much more in XP11 than compared to XP10. Unless there are burnt valves or rings, or the turbines have taken a step back to 1950, is there a general setting/dataref etc that can tone it down across the board? Seems silly, and I'm reluctant to go through and start monkeying with every plane in planemaker. Thanks!
  4. You mean like this? http://www.avsim.com/topic/502284-x-plane-library-updater-version-220117/
  5. Toe brakes work great for me with CH Pro Pedals.
  6. Following up my last post, I've done some more testing back and forth with XP10.51 and XP11PB8, and happy to report so far for the first time the XP11 beta is basically running just as good across the board as XP10, including custom sceneries. I was getting much lower performance in all previous betas. Very pleased with the latest results! Excited to see where things go with XP11. Now the only thing holding me back is the fantastic LES Saab 340A, desperately awaiting it's update...
  7. Anybody tried the Autogyro pack? I've always been intrigued by these in real life, curious how they fly in XP.
  8. I just wonder, if he would have ever tried XP10.51, how different would the experience or conclusion have been? Seems when XP11 recently came, everyone tried it and many really liked it, but personally having a great XP10.51 install as well as buying XP11, what's the huge jump I am missing? With both installed, I still fly XP10 90% of the time. This isn't a knock, purely a question. I love flying in XP10.51, and agree earlier builds up until this past year or so weren't as great, but what's the huge jump from the last XP10 release that has been around for a while to the XP11 betas that has made such a difference to users? The interface is much different, but that has good and bad results as you are more limited in selections in XP11 but basic things are easier. Just curious why so many fell in love with XP11 but never considered or even liked XP10.51, when I struggle to tell the difference once you are past the interface.
  9. Actually, it does not work exactly the same. With VR, the cool part is the screen moves with my head, so I'm not stuck turning my head trying to look at a fixed monitor by moving my eyes left/right/up/down to see the screen. My little dabbles with VR seated were great, much different than my Track IR experience. But, ultimately, it's not a fair comparison as it's such a more expensive route and the headsets aren't good enough yet.
  10. Just updated and fired up PB8, I'm coming from PB5. Using my basic scenario of the stock C172 at KSEA, I too got a nice bump in performance! Very glad to see, as framerate was the main reason I'm still using XP10.51 as my main sim and only tinker with XP11 betas. It was like my performance simply had a cap around ~25-35 fps. Now, same spot and settings, I'm hovering around ~50fps. Much more in line with where I think performance should be. I'm running an i7-6700K/16GB RAM/1070 GPU. Performance is now closer to the framerates I'm seeing in XP10.51. Very pleased to see this! Also, I too noticed the reflections are much smoother now than they were previously like the other poster mentioned above.
  11. Combat sims can make sense. Of course, in those, I always use "Padlock" view and then that gives me the awareness I need to find what I'm trying to track or see without issue. I don't know why, but with "tracking cam" devices, I just can't get around the fact I have to look away from my screen for it to work. Simply doesn't jive with my brain or eyes. Maybe I'm just simple minded or old ha. Now, VR goggles I'm sure will be the proper answer to my concern once resolution and performance are adequate.
  12. Man, I actually own a TrackIRv5, had it for years and try it every so often, yet I never can get comfortable with it or figure out what the hubbub was all about ha. I'm still to this day a HAT switch and mouse view guy, plain and simple, even after 30 years of simming and trying to incorporate the TrackIR for the last 7 or so. I just hated having to move my head and look out the sides of my eyes to see my screen. Maybe this is more annoying because I wear glasses or just don't like tweaking my neck? No idea. Never could get used to that or enjoy it. Was completely unintuitive to me. But, others love it and won't fly without it! Glad there are cheaper options!
  13. It's the same as FSX/P3D. Stock planes are simple and basic examples of what is possible, good enough, but no where near what is possible. XP11's C172 is actually quite nice, but still no where near an A2A for a simple comparison. But, the good news is there are absolutely FANTASTIC payware XP aircraft. For small GA stuff, check out: https://www.simcoders.com/ They offer "REP" addons to Carenado aircraft, making them very similar to A2A Accusim aircraft. Great product, I love what these guys add. Best of both worlds, all of Carenado beauty, yet you get a realism pack that adds/improves all the systems. Additionally, it's about to be updated to v2 after XP11 is finalized, but I simply cannot say enough good things about the Leading Edge Simulations Saab 340A. They nailed it. It's the single best simulation experience I've had on any platform, love it. http://www.x-aviation.com/catalog/product_info.php/take-command-saab-340a-p-100 If you like heavier stuff, check out the FlightFactor 757 v2 or 767. I haven't tried the 767 yet, but I am enjoying the 757 v2 as much as I've ever enjoyed the PMDG 737 or 777. Great stuff as well. So, in a simple answer, X-Plane 10/11 has tons more to offer in a proper payware aircraft than the stock planes. It's almost like a different sim depending on the plane.
  14. AMD video cards are great for Prepar3d or FSX, but don't buy one if you want to run XP10 or XP11. I learned the hard way. They are great cards for the money, but Laminar can't get X-Plane running properly for unknown reasons.
  15. Great thread here! I'll have to check some of these out. The two that come to mind for me are the fantastic "Fate is the Hunter" as already mentioned several times, and this one, didn't see it mentioned yet. Great book, I couldn't put it down either. It's about two young brothers that restore and fly a Cub across the US. https://www.amazon.com/Flight-Passage-Rinker-Buck/dp/0670856770 "Flight of Passage" by Rinker Buck.
  16. Hi Shane, thanks for the feedback! I read through that thread you linked regarding SMP, wonder if it is a similar issue? Is odd though that I've used Active Sky for years using real weather and never ran into this causing a crash. Suppose that's two different things though. Seems all record of the CTD threads are gone over on the .org support site. Disappointing to say the least to see that happen on a payware support forum without even a mention of why. I guess I'll be taking a break from over there, I was sent a warning from admin to shut my mouth as asking why was abusive. It's a great program when it works, but I currently can't get through a complete flight with it enabled without a crash to desktop. Turned off, things are stable. Yep, this is exactly what is happening to me as well. It can be the first update, or at any point later, but usually within an hour or so of launching XP. This is on XP10.51. Take care all.
  17. Thanks for reporting. Not sure what is currently going on with their support scheme. Keep us posted, as all of us over on the their .org site are out of luck.
  18. Following up from my last post, had another crash today after a 50 minute flight. When Xenviro went to download a weather update, XP crashed to desktop. It doesn't happen every time Xenviro updates weather, but for whatever reason it continuously crashes my sim at some point the moment it tries to update weather. I can confirm my internet connection was fine the entire time, before, during, and after the flight. This thread now seems dead, is no one else having this problem? And, further concerns, a bunch of problem reporting threads were deleted over on the .org site under their support section. I'm rather concerned with how this is progressing at this point. Just an FYI to those curious about this particular add-on. It's great when it works, but it often doesn't, and any support forum that deletes threads instead of offering help??? Well.......... Please, someone, tell me what's going on here? I know Rich loves these guys and seems in contact, any thoughts?
  19. Exploring a bit with the great LES Saab 340A over HD Mesh v3 w/ Xenviro north of Seattle. Fantastic flight, wanted to share a fun pic!
  20. Anybody having random crashes to desktop with Xenviro lately? I can't seem to make it through a flight anymore without it crashing at some point in the first hour or less of flying. Log doesn't show anything other than the crash. Simply moving the Xenviro folder out of plugins fixes the problem and my flights are then stable, but obviously disables Xenviro. This is on XP10.51. Seems there's a thread about the same problem over on X-Plane.org. Curious if anyone over here is having similar issues or might have some insight. Guesses over there think it happens when it tries to update the weather and can't for whatever reason, but no solutions have been discussed. EDIT: Following up, I took a look at my xEnviroLog.txt and sure enough, last entry is: [21:49:35] Downloading weather at 21:49 Which corresponds to the exact minute of the log.txt showing the crash for this particular crash. Seems it is related to downloading weather. My internet is rock solid stable though, 300Mbps cable connection. I tried to submit a support ticket but have yet to receive the confirmation email to even register on their support site.
  21. I love X-Plane, I really do, and fly it daily. But, I do chuckle that at even version 11 after 20+ years, we still struggle with getting a plane to taxi properly.
  22. Hi, following up on this as I'm having a regular crash problem as well. It results in a crash report being sent to Laminar every time, but unfortunately I don't know how to read the crash report file. Reviewing the log.txt, it simply ends with "--=={This application has crashed!}==--" A search in the log says the word crash is only listed that one time. Any way to know what might be happening? I'm running X-Plane 10.51 final version. Any tips on other things I could look for in the log? I don't see any obvious errors but not really sure what to look for. My machine is an i7-6700K, 16GB RAM, Nvidia 1070 8GB VRAM. I am running Xenviro, but it also crashes with that disabled. I do have HD Mesh v3 installed and love it, and that too seemed to work fine previously. My crash problem has mainly started over the past week or two. It seems to have happened now that I've started flying the LES Sabb 340A, but by no means want to put any blame on that as it's a pleasure to fly. Maybe something conflicting though? Was hoping log might offer a clue if I knew better what to look for. Thanks for any insight!
  23. I couldn't agree with you more, great post and welcome to the forum! Awesome setup!
  24. Reading through this thread, the question I've yet to see answered that really matters is how fast did you get the Hellcat up to???
