  1. June 6, 2013, 3:40 PM A Cessna CitationJet equipped with Tamarack Aerospace’s active winglets made an unofficial record-breaking trip from Sand Point, Idaho, to Westchester County Airport in White Plains, N.Y., on Tuesday night. The Tamarack CJ (N86LA) is on display at today’s NBAA Business Aviation Regional Forum at Westchester County Airport in White Plains. The nonstop 1,853-nm flight landed with reserves of 472 pounds after flying for six hours and 10 minutes. http://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/ainalerts/2013-06-06/tamarack-wingletted-citationjet-goes-distance

  3. For the last several months I was using only DX10. Due to some aircraft lighting issues (3d model related) at night, the last couple of weeks I have been using DX9 for night flying. I did have a bloom issue with DX9 but turning it off solved that problem. Overall I do prefer DX10 and am anxiously awaiting the next set of DX10 fixes from Steve. :Drooling:
  4. http://abcnews.go.com/Business/kid-entrepreneur-18-sells-flights-vintage-airlines/story?id=19315576#.Ua3zXEDCZ8E A California teenager has figured out a way to do what plenty of adults wish they could -- turn a hobby into a money-making business. Sean Burris, 18, sells flights on vintage jetliners to fellow aviation history buffs. His company, Classic Jet Tours, has sold two flights so far. The first, in 2011, was aboard a British Aircraft Corp. business jet from the late 1960s (a BAC 1-11-400), described by Forbes.com contributor Matthew Stibbe as having a retro, Howard Hughes-style interior. Stibbe, noting that there were only eight such aircraft still flying, described the charter as perhaps the last chance most aviation fans would have to fly onboard this historic plane. And not just fly: Burris tells ABC News that customers on his charters get more than just a seat. "It's a social event," he explains, "with the plane as its centerpiece. They get to do a meet-and-greet with the pilots. They go into the cockpit and get to see all the instruments, which, on older aircraft were more complex, because there was less reliance on computers."
  5. I might buy it but probably not on day 1. I would like to see more "demo" videos and/or feedback on what people are saying about it the first few weeks. I also am curious as to how the support will be and the timing on future upgrades (free or pay).
  6. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Microsoft is trying to fix what it got wrong with its radical makeover of Windows. It's making the operating system easier to navigate and enabling users to set up the software so it starts in a more familiar format designed for personal computers. The revisions to Windows 8 will be released later this year. The free update, called Windows 8.1, represents Microsoft's concessions to long-time customers taken aback by the dramatic changes to an operating system that had become a staple in households and offices around the world during the past 20 years. Research group IDC has blamed Windows 8 for accelerating a decline in PC sales. With the release of Windows 8 seven months ago, Microsoft introduced a startup screen displaying applications in a mosaic of interactive tiles instead of static icons. The shift agitated many users who wanted the option to launch the operating system in a mode that resembled the old setup. That choice will be provided in Windows 8.1. However, Microsoft isn't bringing back the start menu on the lower left corner of the screen. Windows has offered the button for accessing all programs and settings on every previous version of the operating system since 1995. Microsoft believes the startup screen replaces the need for a button, but its omission has ranked among the biggest gripes about Windows 8. Microsoft aims to simplify with Windows 8.1 - http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_WINDOWS_TUNEUP?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2013-05-30-18-33-37
  7. Chase: "BTW, didn't mean to sound like I was calling you out or anything -- was just super shocked to see Cessna announcing this like it's something new." Not a problem and I understand your surprise when it was pushed to the press as something "new".. Their story probably should of had more background information. Thanks for the Wiki link, it definitely put the article in a better perspective. I would NOT spend $515 for a 182 either..........
  8. $80k conversion or $515k out the door on a new one...............
  9. I guess because this was the first flight of a "production engine".............
  10. The first production example of the new Cessna 182 JT-A Turbo Skylane made its inaugural flight this week, ushering in a new era as the first modern single-engine piston airplane designed specifically to run on jet-A. “The Turbo Skylane JT-A performed just as expected,” said Cessna senior test pilot Dale Bleakney. “The weather conditions were fantastic, and we took the Turbo 182 up for what turned out to be a very normal first flight. We flew for 2.3 hours, achieved a flight level of 8,000 feet, and attained a true air speed of 158 knots. We brought it in and did some takeoffs and landings, and everything went as expected.” Read more at http://www.flyingmag.com/aircraft/pistons/cessna-182-jt-makes-first-production-flight#cTQEDC2z3gwVqKSS.99
  11. http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2013/05/annals-of-the-security-state-even-more-airplane-stories/276239/ Over the past few days I've relayed several stories that amount to the familiar police force stop-and-frisk policy being extended from the sidewalk to the skies. The case of Gabriel Silverstein (originally told by AOPA) is here. Those of Larry Gaines and Clay Phillips are here. This photo, apparently of a real interdiction, is via AOPA. Now pilots and others respond, plus another first-hand story, from another pilot who for no reason found his plane surrounded by police.
  12. OK Tom I will fall on my sword!!! It is tought some times to get an "old dogface" to learn something new!!! I did EXACTLY as you said and it works fine!!! My apologize for being soooooo slooooww........................
  13. If ANYONE else is reading this PLEASE provide any insight as to what might be causing this problem. Is anyone else, besides the two of us having this problem? I just went to View New Content, it should a total of 5 pages, went from 1st page to 2nd page, and that is it, remaining items on page 2 gone and NO pages 3-4-5.................. The only way I can see the post is to see ALL posts for the last 24 hours..........not convenient at all......
  14. I am accepting all cookies, including AVSIM. Also I am excluding certain forums (i.e. X-Plane, FLY, FLIGHT) perhaps it is related to having some exclusions set?
  15. Same here, I still get a full page or so at first selection, and then after reading any forum post, everything ages and disappears. Anyone else finding this kind of problem? Does not seem to be browser based since OP and I have different browsers but experiencing the same problem. Thanks,
  16. I logged in from a different computer (still with IE9) and it seemed to be OK. I will go back to the other system, clear the avsim cookies and try it there. Thanks BIC!
  17. From day 1 on AVSIM I am using IE9. As the earlier post indicated this has just started to happen in the last 2-3 days. Regards, Bob
  18. @n4gix - one solution for the Office functionality is for everyone to use OpenOffice....................
  19. Thanks for your patience. I now understand the difference between Board Face and Filter Forums. It works as you indicated and it was definitely a COMMS problem!! :clapping:
  20. I again tried it with only the Forums highlighted for exclusion and am still getting it: results: https://www.box.com/s/d0pl12st7vmdh49iktmk settings: https://www.box.com/s/r8lbu2qx01x2iypuay2a I am at a loss as to what is ocurring. If there are other postings in the X-Plane forums, they are NOT showing up..............
  21. Well gentlemen I have tried every combination possible and I still ALWAYS get the X-Plane General Discussion Forum included when I do View New Content. Here is a link to box.net which contains a screen shot of what I have tried to exclude: https://www.box.com/s/doo57o7gl9r70bb0z80n Any other insight would be appreciated. Thanks, Bob
  22. Michael, I used Steve Parsons DX10 Shader Fixers V3.2.2 at AVSIM Library - http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fsxmisc&DLID=173811 It corrected most of my problems except for one. I fly a KA 350 with Friendly Panels add-on. Everything works fine except no navigation lights on the wing tips from the cockpit view. When I view from exterior they are there and on. After contacting Friendly Panels it appears the problem is because the lights which do NOT work are in the 3D model and they could not get them working in DX10 either. I would attempt a fix but I have no idea how to edit a 3D model. Good luck.........
