DX10 Fixer released!
KSATRoadWarrior replied to Paul J's topic in The Official DX10 Scenery Fixer Support Forum
As Paul indicated before it is recommended that you have the original ShadersHLSL. If you don't then some of the past DX10 shader changes may mean that you will not see the rain and water fixes. Someone correct me is this wrong but I installed ALL of the earlier patches and this was the only change I had to make. -
DX10 Fixer released!
KSATRoadWarrior replied to Paul J's topic in The Official DX10 Scenery Fixer Support Forum
I still have my moving traffic at the airports and the highways. I do use UTX. I also use MyTrafficX 5.4c. I have a few freeware add-on AFCADs, My profile gives other details. -
DX10 Fixer released!
KSATRoadWarrior replied to Paul J's topic in The Official DX10 Scenery Fixer Support Forum
This is IT "new simulator platform".....well worth the money at $32. If you like DX9 stay with it, if you want to try the manual tweaks first (which I did months ago) do it BUT do NOT expect to get the smoothness and increased FPS. You must go with this if you want to see real FSX and DX10 improvement. I have made tweaks over the past year too, but I only do one or two at a time AND then check with flights, airports, etc. before moving on to other tweaks. When I purchased and installed the DX10 Controller I did NOTHING except restore my original Shader_HLSL and it works perfectly. -

DX10 Fixer finally released.

My rain shader and water shader are both grayed out. I thought I would read the manual to see if it gave me any clues. I am very happy with what I have seen so far: smoother transition from view to view, better FPS, and minimal drop in FPS with those darn storm clouds!!! -

Just downloaded and flying. MUCH smoother so far but must finish the flight and read the manual!!!! -
I agree that added traffic to AVSIM is probably a good thing in the long run. I too still like the sound of those props churning (particularly the BIG props)................

AlacrityPC - help needed
KSATRoadWarrior replied to WhiteKnuckle's topic in DX-10 Discussions, Hints and Help
Actually my first contact with the 360 was as a COBOL programmer in 1964 (year 360 was announced) for the US Army. Those were the days!!! I too had some experience working on an Amdahl but it was a couple of years later. I spent 42 years in the IT business............ -

I was a Systems Programmer at a Beta test site for release 2 of OS-MFT..........................in 1966............... -
Another problem may be that there are a lot of T7 (as well as other PMDG aircraft) topics being started in the MS FSX forum instead of one of the PMDG forums. Perhaps someone can monitor those posts and move them to the appropriate forum?

Avast Antivirus - Anybody Using It?
KSATRoadWarrior replied to EngineRoom's topic in MS FSX | FSX-SE Forum
Yes, I have been using Avast for over 8 years. I use it on all of my systems at home and I believe it works well. To tell you the truth I do NOT disable it when running FSX and I don't believe it has a significant impact on FSX performance. I do not let automatic updates install without me reviewing first, downloads also only happen when I say yes. -
Yes, sad to hear the loss of a good staff member and moderator. We all have to make decisions in life about what is important to us. I am sure Stephen had a tough decision to make and I understand that our life can not always be what others want, but needs to be a decision on our values and desires. Good luck to Stephen and I hope that he stays involved with the hobby and with us at AVSIM. Thanks Stephen. :Applause:

I have been having a similar problem (not identical), always in full screen mode BUT it only happens with certain aircraft (in my case the CaptainSim C-130). I have eliminated add-ons, etc, uninstalled and reinstalled while flying the same aircraft and route dozens of times. In another post, one of our AVSIM members CoolIP, suggested that it might be the OpenAL.dll (Open Audio Language), which I have since uninstalled, but did not run a registry cleaner. I will try that next and see if I can eliminate my problem (which may not be related to yours).

Torium: I have a suggestion, mostly punctuation and clarification: improved rendering & scalability? Not sure what is meant by extended lifetime? I do like the color contrast with number 3. Nice work! :Applause:

Wow, I too just purchased Rarotonga, I was hoping that Manila wasn't far behind. As said earlier if it is a family issue, best of luck, and hope we see them back. Their quality is really top shelf.

Thunderstorm flying in the age of datalink weather
KSATRoadWarrior replied to KSATRoadWarrior's topic in Hangar Chat
I found your insight and information helpful!! Thanks.............. -
I believe you are correct DarkStar! Over 1 year ago when I got back involved in MSFS and immediately became aware of Steve's early fixes, I was surprised at some of the issues that were being addressed by Steve. I also made sure that SEVERAL vendors who took the attitude of "DX10 Preview is just that, Preview, and we do not support it"; I made sure that they were well aware of Steve's efforts and the progress he was making and has made. I hope that more vendors take the DX10 future and fly with it not against it.

http://airfactsjournal.com/2013/09/thunderstorm-flying-in-the-age-of-datalink-weather/?utm_source=airfacts&utm_medium=email Datalink radar or onboard radar? XM or ADS-B? Panel mount display or iPad? The options for receiving and viewing in-flight weather have never been greater, with a proliferation of affordable and capable avionics coming on the market over the past decade. This is a great problem to have–airline pilots of 50 years ago would have killed for any of these options–but it’s still a problem. Which one is best? And what’s the right way to use each tool?
