The checkbox labeled "Rev" IS REVERSE... I have to have that checked or the axis input will have the toe brakes applied all the time. Apparently I am not being clear... No matter how carefully I calibrate my toebrake axis in FSUIPC, I get RANDOM, VARIABLE, SPURIOUS, signals at RANDOM TIMES on either one or sometimes both toe brakes... it is not a calibration issue with FSUIPC nor is it a case of not knowing that I need to reverse the signal in order to have my toe brakes not be applied constantly. Something is conflicting and I suspect it to be the Windows 7 joystick calibration! I read that there is a way to clear that calibration out to eliminate that possibility but I did not find the steps needed to do so. Sorry for sounding all out of sorts but I pretty clearly stated the problem in my original post.

Interesting stuff memorgan but, i'm using CH pedals and did NOT install their drivers for the pedals. I had used the windows calibration when I first got the pedals to use with FSX before I got FSUIPC installed. Had conflicts all over the place with button assignments and got that all straightened out. This little issue just showed up a month ago and I simply let it be but now it's darn right irritating.

OK, both sides of my toe brakes are engaging at random times. Makes taxiing a bit difficult. I've checked both pots and they seem OK and connections tight. FSUIPC shows little random spikes as the assembly simply sits in place wth nothing touching it. My thinking is that perhaps Windoze joystick calibration is conflicting somehow. I saw a post that mentioned a way to clear all that out but there were no specifics so, I'm a bit lost on the subject. Anyne know how to go about this or can point me to a link or such?

taxiing along, suddenly the airplane swerves and the "Deferential Brake" text flashes. I did some looking in FSUIPC and I see that both left and right toe brakes as sending very fast spurious signals. Other than getting a new set of pedals or disassembling these to try and clean things up, is there a work around that anyone has come up with? I've tried setting the toe brake values so that they shouldn't engage until they are pressed about 1/4 of the way but, those signals are still applying the brakes at the wrong times.

Airport Detail, how does it work?
alhefner replied to learn-by-flying's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
Like other folks have said, WED (World Editor) is a tool for making airport scenery. I can be used for more than just the airports. I haven't found it as easy to use as other folks seem to have done but, I'm working on it. -
Airport Detail, how does it work?
alhefner replied to learn-by-flying's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
X-Plane ships with exactly two airports that have buildings... all the rest are just autogen runways and taxiways. If you want actual buildings at any airport other than the two that came with X-Plane, you have to install them yourself. You'll also notice that cities and towns don't look like the actual city or town... all generic autogen. If you want a certain town or city to look like the real thing even remotely, ya gotta find it in addon scenery and add it in. It can be a disappointment for anyone coming from FSX or P3D in the scenery area. X-Plane takes better advantage of modern hardware but, it falls far short in the scenery. -
Yeah, I've got the FMS figured out now... And Yes, I know you need to enter the flight plan manually in the ATC window. What I still do not know is how to translate a user fix (not a navaid) into something the ATC will accept. So, when I want to fly to the peak of Granite Mountain and hang a right, ATC will know about it.

I'm able, sometimes, to "File flight plan", point "A" to point "B" airports, using the ATC window...not always! Sometimes it refuses to accept it. Not sure why but I have an idea so, I'll get there. But, I now have "Plan G" that will generate VFR flight plans as well as IFR. I can export them to X-Plan format but: 1. Where do I put them so that I can use them? 2. How do I get the flight plans loaded? 3. Can those flight plans be "Filed" with ATC? I have searched the X-Plane manual and found little to nothing regarding flight planning and using flight plans...just the simple ATC window that won't accept a waypoint that does not correspond to a navaid. Thanks!

Are you using the ATC in X-Plane10?
alhefner replied to jcomm's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
The native ATC, in my opinion, is severely lacking. It only works for IFR and then, it's a bit "iffy" much of the time. Because I have not yet found any good addon/plugin atc programs for x-plane that will also handle VFR flights, I'm sort of not using atc at all right now. -
How do I get PAPI lights to shine?
alhefner replied to alhefner's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
Looked on the ISDG (International Scenery Development Group) site and didn't see a file with a name indicating a lighting issue... lots of high res scenery though! -
How do I get PAPI lights to shine?
alhefner replied to alhefner's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
Nope. Only plugin I have right now, and have disabled for now, is "X-Camera". -
On runways that have PAPI lights, they are always dark. How do I get them functioning? Do I need different scenery to get them working?

Introducing X-Camera for X-Plane 9 and 10
alhefner replied to markcellis's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
I can't find any way to assign joystick buttons to X-Plane functions. No X-Plane category shows up in the button assignment either in basic or advanced areas. I would love to be able to cycle through the views (from view to view) of the first category (Cockpit) each time I press a joystick button. Any help on this? -
Worth the $$$ and frustration?
alhefner replied to alhefner's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
The activation email came in without a problem. I tried using the activation link and got "OOPS! Something is wrong" on their site... I tried the manual activation within the email and got the same result. I know they are separate. I clicked the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the forum page and was sent to a standard type of contact form. There, you have to choose what "department" your sending email off to and the only choice is "Sales". I'm learning a bit more about X-Plane each time I fire it up. The scenery I do have is so much better than either FSX or P3D that it's sort of astounding. Things are certainly different! You don't simply jump into a cockpit and hit the gas! So, yeah, I think it will be worth the effort to get it configured, added to, and otherwise in the long run. -
Yep...that... FSX and even P3D are more heavy with CPU use... the better graphics card won't hurt any and you may see some improvement since it will have a lot more VRAM. With that in mind, the 970 with 4GB VRAM will be just about as good for FSX or P3D as the 980 in my humble opinion. I have no clue about how BF4 will improve or not since I really do not run that.

Worth the $$$ and frustration?
alhefner replied to alhefner's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
Yeah, I get the idea that once I do get it set up, I'll like it... I hope so! I'm really frustrated right now though with the combination of difficulties I've found. There are tons of scenery files on the .org site that I just can't use due to the inability to verify my registration. Not sure if I should start downloading the AlpilotX HD mesh or not just yet... I sort of think I should wait until I can get to the other scenery files first to see... -
I bought X-Plane and installed it after doing some reading here and over at the forums on X-Plane.org. Was pretty sure it would be a great addition to my simulator flying but now, I'm kinda having second, third, and fourth thoughts. Of course the only airports with any detail are in the KSEA area but, there are loads of scenery files for free. The problem is that I am unable to validate my registration at the forum so...no download...no starting topics...no nothing and the only "Contact us" over there is for the sales department... sent them an email asking for help and I'll see what happens. The thing is, with all the additions needed for pleasing flight, all the set-up that has to be changed often depending on aircraft being used, am I simply beating my head against a concrete wall in really trying to get it going? I know there are avid X-Plane users here who have been around the block. How long does it take to get X-Plane set up so that it is fairly pleasing to fly?

Turning off atc in P3D is about the same as in FSX. Go to settings and simply disable the sounds from atc. Just turning off the sound will be all you need to do for the most part...also, don't use the native P3D atc if you're using VoxAtc.
-
Almost sounds as if you had the wrong frequency for the LOC in your nav radio. I have run into this by using the wrong LOC or by forgetting to hit the BC button when trying to line up on a backcourse...
-
Don't forget to use the "push to talk" (spacebar) at least a second before you start speaking and leve it depressed until you're completely done speaking. Also, you may have to use the "flight plan training" routine to teach VoxAtc how to interpret your speech... you can "train" the speech recognition for any specific flight plan and, the more you use it, the better it gets at understanding you.
-
You do not need Windows Voice recognition "running" at all. You only need it "set up" so that VoxAtc can utilize the speech to text and text to speech functionality so, don't start it up. If you have voice recognition actually running in Windows, everything you say goes TO Windows as a possible command. So, Windows will look to see if you are trying to open an application or do some other Windows operation and responds acordingly.
