Who provides support for FSX SE, Dovetail, Steam...?
As previously stated steam is just a publisher so support would be from dovetail. About your steam backup issue, support would be from steam. However Steam never (and clearly in their FAQ) claimed that their WYSIWYG back-up system works with every game, so support query would be a waste of time. There is a full proof way to backup steam games anyway and it works with FSXSE

FSX Steam Edition Multiplayer! Your worst fears come true! Maybe.
So true. Granted not everyone here is a pc gamer (who probably all have steam games for a long time). And with all the rest of the big gaming distribution companies giving a bad image of themselves, I see why people are afraid of Steam. Let's not forget they set out to revolutionise something that was dying (pc gaming) and they succeeded.I will always remember how expensive games were back in the days. They also are pushing linux gaming which I admire too. For long time linux users it was a huge step. I started simming on linux and still do when im on xplane or fg. And they also created some gems like half life, portal and even counter strike(played a lot of that in cyber cafe in the early 2000s with my uni mates), when valve was a small young company. Back on topic. After almost 2 years of learning about aviation and simming extensively I still don't ever imagine flying online, even less with atc heh heh. Im too shameful to do something stupid in front of professionals. Sometimes I wish I was a kid heh heh.

ORBX PNW coverage? good flight plans?
Also check Ozx NA It is freeware and meant to work with PNW. Quality stuff A lot of Orbx developpers are originally from the Ozx crew from my understanding (?). And yes it does cover part of BC,WA and OR. I havent got it myself but I'll probably get it someday. I only fly in australia but im so amazed by the videos and screenshots from PNW. Beautiful country you live in And also https://www.fullterrain.com/locations for a map

FSX:SE - Custom install location?
This +1. without the acf file your 16G backup is useless. For people who have been using steam for a long time this is important. Simply copying your game folders over is not enough anymore. There is more info on backing up in this thread. I have since tested and I can confirm it works.

Possible to Link FSX:SE to FSX?
Unfortunately you also have a config directory in C:\Users\<your user>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX If you have a dual install, FSX:SE will create a new folder called FSX-SE. Some addons require some change in this folder, like most Orbx products and DX10 fixer for e.g. While I found a way to still install Orbx addon (after changing some FTXCentral config files), you will have no luck if this path is hardcoded into your addon installer/software. The only way to be sure that everything will work properly (especially if you do not have a good understanding of FSX architecture) is to have only one version installed.

Possible to Link FSX:SE to FSX?
You need to reinstall your addons. And unless you are very proficient in computing and ready to fix any errors you will get from installers by changing stuff in your registry etc... I highly recommend you only have one version of FSX installed. A lot of add ons will not work with a dual install because FSX SE will then create unconventional config location and registry entries.

Anyone Else Notice This Price Hike?
Confirming no problem at all installing fsx . your release day version should be exactely the same! Nope if you look at your link it clearely state "in store only". However their stores are FULL of them. They definitely are getting rid of their FSX stock so if any aussie based simmer wants a new hard copy for AU$18, it is the moment or never

Anyone Else Notice This Price Hike?
Reading this thread I am so tempted :| A bit out of character for me though. I am a terrible merchant. Id probably end selling them for $30 lol

Anyone Else Notice This Price Hike?
feel free to buy them yourself heh heh https://ebgames.com.au/any/any?q=Flight%20Simulator%20X%20Gold%20Edition No kidding, I was at my local EB 10 days ago and there was a few of them lying around... EDIT: I just realised that it is only available in store. Maybe EB Australia has bought the bulk of the remaining FSX gold edition And I bought my copy 3 months ago at $18, so its been on sale for a while...

FSX-SE Compatibility Testing Thread
I just wanted to confirm that this hack works for the orbx installers I own (and most probably all of them) if you have the boxed and the steam version installed. Great stuff thanks! EDIT: This alone didnt work for my orbx products. I also needed to edit 2 files (Orbx/scripts/FTXSettings.xml and Orbx/scripts/FTXCentral/FTXSettings.xml) to point to the correct library (''Microsoft\FSX-SE"). With those tweaks it appears to work.

Anyone Else Notice This Price Hike?
For people in australia. EB shops are full of boxed gold editions. I bought mine so cheap a few months ago. I cannot believe how expensive amazon is selling them.... It would make sense if it was a rarity but seeing 10 copies at my local shop, I just do not understand....

What is Steam.
There is no way I could read all this thread but I wanted to say that I love steam. They have done very good things for the gaming community. They have actually changed the industry altogether in a beneficial way for the consummer. And last but absolutely not least they have done immensely for gaming on linux, something Ive been interrested in the last 15 years. I am in my mid 30s and my first computer was a Atari Ste1040 and I am convinced that steam is the best thing that has happened to this industry since the early days of video games or at least since I first started.

FSX Steam Edition Won't Backup
Okay people I need to add to this thread as I still couldn't confirm this works however I believe it will knowing a bit more about steam everyday lol. The problem is every game on Steam is packaged differently and from what i understand this is the only backup that can be applied to all games. The actual answer to the OP can be found in steam's FAQ about the build-in backup process, not every game can be backed up that way. I also forgot to mention something in my instructions. After you have copied the correct acf file and your FSX folder back into s/steamapps/ and /steamapps/common, you need to start Steam and go to your library, then right-click on fsx and go to properties, select 'local files' tab and click on 'verify integrity of game cache'. So as an anecdote as to why I couldn't verify this. I was provided with a correct acf file (ty badfinger ) and was all smile when i suddenly realise I couldnt even copy over my backup heh heh. I consider myself proficient with computers but I didn't only fail once, by omitting to copy the acf file, but twice by backing up to DVDs without compressing the backup first. Even in australia it is faster to DL it than restore an uncompressed image on 4 DVDs (I was looking at 16h of copying from disk). Oh dear so thank god my DL counter resets on the 27th and I had enough to redownload FSX:SE... Can't take the risk to try this until the 27th then but don't forget and COMPRESS your backups

FSX Steam Edition Won't Backup
It still needs to be tried I have been using steam for a long time and you used to be able to just drag and drop your game folders and it would work. But I tried this a while ago (year or so?) and it wouldn't work. I only found this answer trying to help in this thread as being able to backup this game is a necessity for myself as well. Low disk space on my laptop and also being with the most famous aussie ISP being the reasons. heh heh
