  1. It found a lot of missing files and downloaded 3.5gb of stuff, but I still have the same issue.
  2. So, for the past two weeks or so, when I launch FSX SE the home page that first displays has been blank, which I thought was odd because it always has worked fine. Well, today I went to do a mission and the mission briefings will not display. When I click "go to briefing", the "fly" button appears at the bottom and I can click it, but the mission select screen is still displayed. Finally, the learning center page is just like the home page where I see nothing but white. Has this happened to anyone else and is there any way to fix it besides reinstalling?
  3. I have to agree with Active Sky Next. I just purchased it yesterday after trying out the demo a few weeks ago. Before I bought ASN, I tried the free FSXWX that someone linked to above. I tried it after the ASN demo. ASN is a much better weather engine, and FSXWX made FSX intermittently crash. Plus, with ASN, the weather radar functions in my PMDG aircraft, which is an awesome addition. The first day of using the ASN demo, I went to my home town airport as there were pretty heavy storms in the area. I was in the PMDG 737 and during take off, I saw "wind shear" as I was at VR. I rotated, gained a few feet of altitude, and was suddenly slammed back down onto the runway. I have never had anything like that happen with the default weather engine.
  4. My vote is for the QualityWings 757. I purchased it fairly recently and I love it. I don't like that everything is very simplified, but, it still has enough functionality to make up for it. It is by no means a PMDG-level simulation though(and of course I knew that purchasing it). It is an absolute dream to fly though. The included engine sounds are also fantastic. It is probably my favorite aircraft to hand fly. I typically hand fly it to cruise. I used to own(and still do, I guess) the CS 757, way back when I used FSX boxed. Before purchasing the QW 757, I tried installing it to FSX Steam (it's the boxed CS 757). It worked, except I could not see out the windshield. This is a known issue but the links to the file for the fix are dead. I did fly it a bit from the external view before uninstalling. From what I remember, the sound set is not nearly as good, and it is not as nice to fly. It is by no means a bad product, but I think the QW 757 beats it.
  5. I think this is very recent, but FSX and a bunch of addons are on sale on Steam for "March Madness", so it's $7.49. I have been using Microsoft flight sims for years. After using MS flight sims for so long, I find it very difficult to use X-Plane. The views and controls are, IMO, terrible in comparison. FSX is much easier to use. That said, X-Plane is gorgeous, and it certainly runs smoother with better eye candy. Also, the flight model in X-Plane is fantastic, at least for GA aircraft. Something about airliners in X-Plane feels off to me. I haven't picked up X-Plane yet, I base this off of the demo and a friend of mine who owns it. FSX is definitely worth it at $7.49. As others have said, if X-Plane goes on sale, there's no reason to not pick it up as well after you try the demo.
  6. The aircraft should ignore throttle inputs when autothrottle is engaged, so you should be able to pull the throttle back before disengaging AT. I know in the PMDG 737 and 777 there is a setting for this. I also have the QW 757, and as far as I can remember, it also ignores my throttle with AT engaged. I don't think there is a setting for it.
  7. If I had to pick one, it would be a very tough choice between the PMDG 737 and 777. If you're more of an Airbus person, then the Aerosoft Airbus is a fantastic addon, easily rivaling PMDG. You could also look into the QualityWings 757. I just purchased it recently and it is pretty cheap. It is not as detailed as the PMDGs or even the Aerosoft, but it's definitely one of the better addons out there.
  8. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I tried this and I like it. It definitely makes it feel more immersive.
  9. One of my favorite things about the Aerosoft Airbus package is the option to have ATC sounds play. I mostly fly the PMDG 737 and 777, and their sound sets are of course very good, but I want the ATC sounds like the Aerosoft Airbus. Are there any addons that do this? The only sound enhancement addon I know of is Accu-Feel, but that doesn't add any ATC sounds.
  10. I ended up moving it to my SSD(thank you SteamMover!) and it solved the problem. After doing so, I went through your list, and my sound drivers were from August 2014, so I updated those. I also defragged the drive and made sure DirectX was current. I didn't even think of the sound drivers until you mentioned it. I will probably move it back to the hard drive to see if the issue is still there because a 56gb FSX install is not meant for a 120gb SSD...
  11. I use WoAI traffic, and I notice very little performance impact from it. I actually think I have better FPS than with default traffic. I have it set at 45% normal and 25% general, and my FPS is the same as it was using 20% for both with default traffic. I would recommend trying it since it is free.
  12. I do not have a sound card. Maybe that's the issue? I'm thinking of moving FSX to my SSD to see if that resolves it, because if the hard drive can't load the sound fast enough, that would explain it.
  13. I'm having an issue with FSX Steam that is getting pretty annoying. At times, when the game loads and plays a sound file, it freezes for about 1 second. For example, when I am landing and the gear touch, the game freezes, then the sound plays, and then it is fine. Sometimes, the delay is enough that by the time it's done freezing, my nose wheel slams into the ground. It also happens when the FSX ATC speaks, and on missions when there are voices. However, it doesn't happen all the time, so I am not sure what to blame the issue on. Has anyone else had this problem, and did you ever solve it?
  14. Wow, that much of a difference? That sounds awesome. My current specs are [email protected], Corsair Vengeance DDR3@1600, GTX 970, 120gb Samsung SSD and 4tb WD HDD. I bought the parts on Black Friday the year the 2500k released, so it's what, 4 years old now? I've upgrade the GPU four times (560 to 2x 660tis to 680 to 970), the case to a HAF X, the PSU, etc. Basically, the only things I haven't upgraded yet are the CPU, mobo, and RAM. I was actually going to upgrade them this Black Friday but I bought quite a few FSX addons instead. I just got back into FSX the past few months, and up until then, I had no desire to upgrade. FSX is the only thing I play that is maxing out my CPU. My framerates drop when there's a lot of scenery on screen or when there are a lot of clouds(REX). Now you make me want a new CPU!
