Hello,
When I assign keys to ChasePlane functions, if I use a shift or control key to do so it currently distinguishes between the left or right shift/ctrl key. Is there any way to get ChasePlane to just see this as "Shift" instead of "L Shift" or "R Shift" (or in the Ctrl key case, "Ctrl" instead of "L Ctrl" and "R Ctrl"?
The reason I ask is because FSUIPC only reads these as "Shift" or "Ctrl". It doesn't distinguish between left or right keys. When trying to map a joystick button to a key press for ChasePlane, I'm unable to trigger any action mapped to a Ctrl or Shift function. This essentially cuts down on the available mapping options and forces me to use only A-Z, 0-9 and a few more keys. This becomes a problem if I want to type text into an FMC for example.
I know there are other things I can do to work around this, but most work-arounds have limits of their own. To name a few...
- Mapping joystick keys directly to FSUIPC only works for one specific joystick. I can't, for example, have a toggle view button on both a joystick and a yoke.
- Using programs like SimServer allow me to enter data via a tablet, but that can sometimes be clunky, and such software isn't compatible with all aircraft.
I think a much simpler solution would just be having Ctrl and Shift key functionality that works in ChasePlane the same way as it does in virtually every other program that runs in Windows. It's not like Left Ctrl-C and Right Ctrl-C have different functions in Microsoft Office... regardless of which Control key you hold down, if you press "C" it copies the selected field. I can't see any instance other that "flying with your keyboard" in which differentiating between the left and right would offer any benefits.
