  1. Thanks everyone for your input so far. I think we all seem to be on a similar page in regards to these issues and I remain optimistic about the future of the sim. About to start a short European VFR flight in the Piper Arrow with live weather but custom time so I'll see how I get on.
  2. As Jorg kept saying "we are 1.5 years into a 10 year journey" so yes I'm still optimistic that improvements will come in time. I just hope they see this as an imperfection as opposed to something simmers would put up with.
  3. I wish I had been a louder voice in pushing for a switch to turn METAR on and off. It's obviously popular and needed for the people who plan ahead and use things like VATSIM so the feature is very welcome. But my personal taste makes me wish I could just use the forecast model while others still have access to the METAR injection model.
  4. It absolutely looks better visually. I really do hope they can iron out the abrupt changes specifically. I do wish there was a way to have dynamic weather presets for the time being as opposed to static presets. I'll have to see how much of a pain this will be over the coming months.
  5. My performance was terrible but only towards the end of my flight. Was near LAX on approach on the update day, which is a point where I would expect less frames but yet it was worse than usual. The start of the flight, over at China Lake pulling G's in the FA-18 was absolutely fine though.
  6. Thanks, search only brought up threads from August last year for me, somehow. Less people discussing it than I expected for something as immersion breaking as this. Especially as the 10SM issue seems to be far more discussed and I wouldn't have even realised that one!
  7. Not seen a thread or much discussion on this so hoping to get some insight. Loaded up the sim for an hour after SU7 and mostly things went well. I was trying out the FA/18 over China Lake and out towards LA. As I was approaching LA, the haze and fog looked great in the distance but unfortunately when I reached the haze/fog it really suddenly changed and the entire area was foggy including the area I had just come from which had no fog previously. I then looped around and headed for LAX and once on approach, an abrupt change happened again; this time from low visibility/fog/haze to perfect clear skies. Is anyone else experiencing this? Could it be due to the servers being completely rammed? Or maybe due to me flying such a fast aircraft between weather stations/airports/areas? I really hope abrupt weather changes are not the latest issue to contend with.
  8. 200mbps hardwired, no wireless rubbish. Everything was downloaded by 5pm.
  9. Hopefully get the download going just as I step in the house from work. If we have a good day in regards to the servers, I might be causing my first sonic boom by the time I've had a cigarette and a coffee. See you all around 16:00/17:00 in the skies!
  10. Oh! Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I would happily download any and every region that they ever come to make of this.
  11. Not a huge fan of tail draggers and the Volocopter is a bit sci-fi for my taste. Looking forward to trying the PC-6 and the F-18, but I can't see them pulling me away from the Piper Arrow for too long.
  12. The particular issue I spoke about affected a lot of simmers at one point, if the experience is now better then that's good news. When I say "worse issues", this was pre-release when people demanded it go on Steam due to issues they had with the MS Store with completely different games like Forza Horizon.
  13. Maybe changes have been made since this was an issue then, hopefully so. I'm also on the Microsoft Store version, but I recall a large amount of simmers being upset about their attempts to verify files when the sim was within it's first few months since launch.
  14. Do not verify with Steam. Steam only provides the Microsoft launcher. If you verify the files through steam this will install the entire sim again and has a tendency to break it. Problem was that the customer base were so against using the Microsoft Store because of "issues" that they demanded it should be on Steam and ended up with even worse issues.
  15. Interesting, wonder how I would get on with a 32" monitor. Just noticed it's also mounted on the bottom of the monitor as opposed to the top, which is probably great with keyboard and mouse but my Alpha yoke would probably block it's view. I hope someone eventually does a thorough review of our options.
  16. I also really like my trusty TrackIR but that new Tobi Eyetracker looks interesting too, apparently it will support MSFS eventually. So at least we finally have a potential competitor too.
  17. Another 32" 1440 user here. Love it, looks great. Mine isn't even a particularly high quality monitor but I'm very pleased with it.
  18. Yes I think you must be on the money with that assessment, the development side of the sim may take some time to hit peak capability.
  19. I believe some add on airports have achieved it. I have Orbx Leeds Bradford and I'm fairly sure they have covered the terrain changes very accurately.
  20. You would have enjoyed the argument I got into from the guy who wanted to launch a class action lawsuit over the sim haha. You know, he got really mad when I pointed out he wouldn't be able to quantify his losses and was better off asking for a refund..
  21. Enjoying the Piper from JustFlight in the meantime. While some companies have been quiet, others have completely upped their game!
  22. Love my Yoke. Dropping some money on the Throttle soon too. Just need them to announce the release date for the pedals now!
  23. The reason bugs get found and fixed is due to thousands of people using the software and giving feedback. I don't think it would be in the state it is in now without that huge surge in people being critical of the sim. What is with the obsession/fantasy of it being released at the point of perfection? I'll be playing this sim until the day it gets replaced or the servers are switched off. It isn't competitive and doesn't have a story that can be spoiled so it doesn't matter if the experience isn't ideal on day one. It's not FIFA or CoD.
  24. I don't believe I have ever seen prop animation done well. I will be happy to be shown otherwise, though. My limited knowledge on the subject makes me believe that animating this well is simply really difficult to do. It doesn't help that we all have different ideas about how it should look as some know what the prop looks like IRL while others like myself would probably base it off the videos from cockpits we have seen where the camera framerate makes an impact. I would like to see it improved, but I understand it's probably at the limits of what is possible. My JustFlight Piper Arrow doesn't seem to do this any better than the vanilla Asobo aircraft.
  25. I still think it all depends what you want from your sim. I put most of my time into FSX and never made the leap over to XPlane, I was fairly happy to leave FSX behind but I could totally understand someone continuing to use either platform if they have spent good money and time to create a stable flight simulation experience that works for their taste or use case. XPlane is a fine simulation that promises a complex aerodynamic system and is a great base for a really fleshed out experience at whatever level you wish. P3D has it's market for those willing to pay the fees and have something more towards a certified sim rig. Again it can become whatever fleshed out experience you like with it's thousands of stable add ons. These sims offer enough unique content and enough desirable features to have a market, it just may not be anywhere near as big as it was since MSFS launched. MSFS can appeal to the same sort of people as XPlane and P3D but has opened up a fresh section of the market with the Xbox release. I'd have loved it if I could have ran a flight sim on the consoles I had growing up, I'd have started in this hobby much much earlier in life.
