  1. Hi, This post to let you know if all goes well, and there is no last minute show stopper, we'll offer updates to all our X-Plane and FltSim products tomorrow, with new features, enhancements, and surprises!
  2. Hi, The GTN is nearly ready for release, and in the meantime, I've decided to open the curtain on different aspects, while at the same time, debunking some myth about FS and performance! Here is a modest screenshot of 4 GTN unit1 at 2560x1418 pixels in P3D3. NB: It is slightly reduced to save bandwidth (75%), but it illustrates a couple points nonetheless. First myth: to save performance, display 1 gauge at a time only. Most often than not, you read you can't have a popup gauge displaying the same content as the VC at the same time, and this is a 'design' decision to 'save frame rate'... Why end up with half of your gauge, instead of getting the complete picture all around? This screenshot shows one GTN 750 Unit1 (1 gauge, not 2) displaying 4 different instances of the gauge in different sizes at the same at the same time, at 60 FPS locked. This is massive amount of gauge pixels to refresh, and believe me, using the mouse wheel on the screen (which simulate screen pinch in/out) there is no stutter at all and this refreshes at native GTN speed. Second myth: you can't display images with gradients because of colour banding... Well, I'm sorry to prove this is wrong (see the area within the yellow circle), but thanks to our unique technology capable of rendering 32bits images in FS gauges, in real time, you really get THE complete GTN screen picture only with the Reality XP GTN Touch. Third myth: this is just a gauge which bridge the Garmin trainer, what's so special about this? Can't everyone do the same frankly? It might look the same on the surface, but it is more than just 'bridging' flight sim and the Garmin trainer. Suffice to say, if this was easy, there would be a lot of Garmin trainer based products on the market! First, once done the bezel, the screen, and start/stop the Garmin trainer in the background, which a lot of developers could manage to do, there are key differences in how you put and how you get data to/from the sim and the trainer. Implementing the technology to grab the screen in a highly efficient way, and then displaying it in FS in a highly efficient way, and in 32 bits colours, it something which is much harder to do than it may seem. Then, the scope of input/output to the trainer is paramount to a sound simulation, especially for our professional customers using our technologies everyday for training. For example, our TAWS-A implementation in the GTN takes in account the actual flaps and gear position, which have a dramatic impact on the TAWS algorithm, and the alerts it returns. Speaking of this, I've recently read on avsim someone saying there is no way to 'inhibit' the TAWS because, well... In fact, not all GTN are born equal and the Reality XP GTN Touch offers the 'TAWS Inhibit' input, in addition to the OBS and the CDI toggle inputs. I could write a lot more about all this, but enough said for now, time for the screenshot: NB: this is running on an old 3.4Ghz Intel I5 (2013) and an Nvidia GTX 775M with 2GB, more specifically a Late 2013 iMac in bootcamp, which is our average test reference computer.
  3. Hi, Last time I've unveiled a number of details about our upcoming Garmin GNS V2 and GTN Touch for FS9, FSX, FSX-SE, P3D1, P3D2, P3D3, and P3D4, in 64/32 bits (what I usually call FS-SEX3D). I've also hinted further down the discussion about how the user experience is paramount to the total experience of a Reality XP product. Today, I'm pleased to illustrate our vision about aircraft panel configuration and what is to become your first-hand experience with our product. We want you to feel confortable from the get go. Obviously I know the most advanced users among you will feel at-home opening the panel.cfg file in notepad, nevertheless, there are times you just want to click-click-fly and there is no better way that leaving this task to the hand of your Reality XP assistant! First things first: there is no longer a separate programs to run, nor a simulator to close prior changing your aircraft panel. Your key entry to the assistant is this entry in the add-ons menu*. Right from the loaded aircraft cockpit, just select the menu to open the assistant: This opens a task-oriented assistant presenting contextual options: The next step usually consists in choosing what to do next: Finally, the assistant reviews the proposed changes before you 'Accept': When you click Accept, it saves the changes to your aircraft panel.cfg file, and automatically reloads your aircraft, ready to fly with your brand new Reality XP GNS V2 and Reality XP GTN Touch! I thank you all for the warm welcome and support! * with FS9, the menu appears in the popup menu when you right-click a window.
  4. Hi, I think it is time to unveil what is coming next, in a few days! Like I've said previously, I know how important it is to our customers not only to have the best simulation products. I know it has been hard to wait this long, but I also know our customers want bug-free products. Should our proven track record for our GNS V2 and GTN for X-Plane 11 is any measure, we're proud to offer you the same level of quality for the entire Flight Simulator platform! The products come with unique graphics technologies: HDPI 32bits RGBA bitmaps for a better visual experience than allowed by the FS-SDK*, highly optimized code for near zero impact to the FPS, and in-sim live settings: no aircraft or sim reload! Both products also come super-charged with tons of customization options for panel integration, hardware interface and keyboard shortcuts. They also now offer custom variables to help XML gauge programmers interact with our GPS. I also know we are at a simulation turning point, which I'll best illustrate with the following questions we all ask ourselves: do I keep my 32bits FSX investment, or do I take the plunge and go for P3D4 64bits now? Do I purchase my needed hardware update before changing simulators, or after? What about my add-ons? We've decided to help you take the pro-simmer choice, in offering our Flight Simulator version of the upcoming GNS V2 and GTN Touch, compatible with the entire flight simulator family for a unique price: FS9, FSX, FSX-SE, P3D1, P3D2, P3D3, and P3D4*, in 64/32 bits (what I usually call FS-SEX3D) Whenever you decide to migrate from an older sim (say FSX-SE) to the latest P3D4, your Reality XP product gets your back: you don't have to purchase the product because you are changing simulator! A single license has got you covered from FS9 to P3D4: - Want to migrate to P3D4 later and keep flying P3D3 a little bit longer? No problem! - Flying half on P3D3 for this great scenery, and half on P3D4 for VAS-free worry? No problem either! Expect the GNS V2 and the GTN to hit the online shelves in a few days now! And as a picture is worth a thousand words, here it is, in P3D V4 64bits: Stay tuned for GTN screenshots coming up soon! * FS-SDK limits: 15bits colours / FSX (Acc/Sp2) and FS9 (Sp1)
  5. Just purchased my first Carenado aircraft, and the GTN 750 is not correctly centered in the panel in the LITE, as shown. It works fine in the full version aircraft. Thanks Steve.
  6. This is a custom panel that I designed, using the Mindstar Aviation Garmin G1000, for the Rockwell 500 Shrike by Milton Shupe, et. al. Over Lake Michigan near Sheboygan, WI. The panel background images need more work but at least everything is functioning. (FSX-SE)
  7. Hi! I bought and installed your GTN 750 today. Before doing so I also noted that the included GPS data was from July 2016. Recent enough. But I also use Navigraph and I noticed there is a difference between the Garmin, showing me old and faulty frequencies for airport services, and Navigraph giving me the correct ones. If I understand it correctly it is possible to update the Garmin software for a small fortune, whereas services like Navigraph and Aerosofts Navdatapro are quite affordable. Is there a cheaper way to have the Garmin and Navigraph information synced without taking out a mortgage on my house or starting a new career as a drug kingpin? Or do I have to resort to using an old Navigraph cycle? And just to be clear, I am just a newbie flightsim enthusiast and not a PPL holder so even though I may think thousands of dollars a year for map updates are fine, my wife most certainly do not agree.
  8. I've posted this teaser in our general forum: http://www.avsim.com/topic/499626-teaser-new-things-to-come/
  9. The GTN Tutorial videos at the Garmin website are covering all there is to know to get started with the GTN with ease. I recommend you tour the features in a hands-on approach here: http://www8.garmin.com/learningcenter/in-the-air/gtn/
  10. First off, even though I'm writing about my experience of the Carenado C208 Grand Caravan EX, I'm posting this here because I suspect it applies to all (payware?) aircraft using this form of the glass cockpit, not just Carenado's offering. (Feel free to move it if you think it only applies to the Carenado aircraft, or if it better belongs in some other forum.) I have my first payware GA aircraft with an implementation of the G1000, in this case combined with the GMC710 autopilot. In flying from one location to another, I'm able to put myself on a pre-created flightplan using NAV on the autopilot using GPS mode. I'm also able to use the PROC key to set up and activate an approach to the destination airport (in this case, a GPS approach, since the runway I'm using doesn't have ILS). The aircraft is flying that approach laterally just fine. Do I need to also invoke APR mode on the autopilot? If so, what is supposed to happen? I ask this because, in my experience, I get "LOC" annunciated in white on the PFD, but it never turns green (not surprising, since -- as I already pointed out -- there is no ILS on this runway). But the aircraft will generally, a couple of miles out on what I seem to have established as a glideslope based on the PAPI lights, suddenly start climbing steeply (no, ALT HOLD mode isn't on; it got switched off when APR was invoked, and, besides, I dialed the altitude down to field level as a precaution), occasionally stalling due to airspeed drop in the process, and I have no choice but to switch off the autopilot and wrestle the aircraft down to the ground in what has suddenly become a short-field landing more appropriate to bush flying. Does this mean that, when I'm doing a GPS (i.e. non-ILS) approach with the G1000/GMC710, I shouldn't invoke APR mode, and that the latter should only be done with ILS approaches? If that's the case, what is the proper procedure for carrying out a GPS approach with the G1000 combo? If, on the other hand, I should invoke APR mode on the GMC710, what is supposed to happen? Unfortunately, the Carenado documentation is basically just a "guide to all the buttons and menus" that doesn't given the big picture, and everything else I've searched on the web seems to leave out that information.
  11. News for all to enjoy, Flight1 GTN gauges have been updated to v.1.10, and a new update tool comes with it. Update looks to cover all platforms, all versions.
  12. Today, I talked to the developers at Mindstar Aviation, makers of the Mindstar G1000, who are located not far from me. They gave me the OK to publicly share that after Oshkosh they will be releasing a GNS430/530 gauge package for use in FSX and P3D. Many are familiar with and have used Reality XP gauges in FS9 and FSX. You also know support is now nonexistent by the developer, and the nav database is old. Well, get ready to put those GPS units aside. The Mindstar GPS units will be full-featured units that can be used in almost any 3rd party aircraft with a Garmin GPS. And forget about outdated nav data. The same nav data used in their G1000 will also be used in the GNS 530/430 units. That navdata subscription is only $40 annually. I use it in my G1000 and it's awesome flying with up-to-date navdata in a GA aircraft. Both the 430 and 530 will be included in the same package. You won't have to buy separate gauges. So, you can install any combination of the 2 GPS units and, get ready, cross-fill is included! You read correctly. No additional fee will have to be paid for crossfill. So, you'll get both the GNS 430 AND GNS530, with cross-fill ability, and updateable nav database for - wait for it - $50 USD, whether you use FSX or P3D. That price is unbelievable! I would keep an eye on their Facebook page for release. Todd
  13. Hi I am having issues stopping the 3D knobs displaying. I have installed RX Garmin GNS 430 and used the FOR CUSTOMIZATION folders with required .cfg edits but the knobs continue to display over the top of the RX instrument. The Carenado Baron 58 has a mini panel that allows you to turn off the knobs is there any way in the F33 to do the same??
  14. Hi all Can you tell I'm trying to learn the G1000 tonight? :) Anyway, I'm also stuck trying to use the cool G1000 feature mentioned in the Lessons manual: frequency selection. On the waypoint page, the g1000 is supposed to load the selected frequency ("Approach" in this case) into Com 1 if you have the freq selected and press the "ENT" key. This doesn't work for me. I can select the freq easily, but pressing the ENT key does not load the freq into the Com 1 standby field. this would be so helpful, so does anyone know what I'm doing wrong here or is this a known issue? ThanksClear SkiesClark
  15. Hi all New FSX flyer here and I'm trying to learn to use the G1000 but the mouse control of the FMS knob is giving me carpal tunnel. ;p So I've been trying to assign keys or Saitek X52 buttons to the Group/Page functions but either method results in a double press so pressing the key or joystick button will jump 2 pages or 2 groups at a time. "Repeat" is not enabled and I also tried the "when key released" option. Is this a known issue or known user error and can someone share the fix please? Haven't seen this covered in the forum... Clear SkiesClark
