December 13, 200322 yr Commercial Member Captains-This morning's NOTAM will give you some additional information to keep you informed as to where we are with the upcoming release- and also provide some information on what's going on around the PMDG site to keep the conspiracy theorists at bay at least until it is time to dissect my grammar again... (yes- can you believe we had a thread here dissecting my use of the word "and" in an announcement.... hhehheehe.... I feel like a White House Press Spokesman!)Okay- we found some issues with the VERSION_72 that we sent to testing 24 hours ago. It has been superceded by a VERSION_73 that has eliminated the problems identified in VERSION_72....with the exception of two items that were just discovered. We are examining the context of these two remaining items- and once we have cleared them or identified them as "minor items for future fix" candidates- we'll move to release the update!Although I've been ridiculed for saying this, I'll say it again: "We are almost finished. And when the TEAM feels we are okay for release- we'll release..." My gut instinct tells me that this will happen on Saturday... I've been wrong before, however- so please do not hold me to a saturday release... you'd be amazed how complex this process is when you want to do it correctly! There are some who don't like this type of candid appraisal, so for those folks I offer the following suppplemental update: "We released the product six weeks ago, but you were too busy being critical of our efforts to keep everyone honestly informed- and you missed the update. Please check back next year!"(Disclaimer: I'm being sarcastic!!!!!)Okay now- here is some important information:In preparation of the release- we have brought down our old website and are bringing the new version online. The new site contains PMDG's new corporate image that will be seen on our website, advertising and retail packaging in coming product releases! (we hope you like it!)Please do not construe the website change as an indication that the release process has taken place... your first indication of the release will be either an email to your registered address- or an announcement here...Okay- back to work for me.... I'll be in touch during the day! Robert S. Randazzo PLEASE NOTE THAT PMDG HAS DEPARTED AVSIM You can find us at: http://forum.pmdg.com
December 13, 200322 yr Suggestion: Fix the two minor issues. I've waited this long, I dont mind waiting another one/two weeks.Release when you're ready. I guarantee everyone will still LOVE you although I won't be kissing your b.tt like some others.:-)
December 13, 200322 yr GREAT News Robert! :) Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
December 13, 200322 yr Don't be too modest...Any NOTAM concerning the PMDG 737NG is WAY more important to us than anything the Bushmen might have to offer... ;-)Thanks for the update. By all means, take your time to finish it...if today, fine... but if not, sometime next week will be fine, please also take some time off too!Best,Martijn
December 13, 200322 yr Robert,Great news, and thanks to you and the rest of the PMDG team in keeping us informed throughout the process.Although after reading your announcement, I don't know what is funnier. Your "check back next year" comment, or thinking of all the people out there who are going to read your announcement and are going to park their browser and set the refresh rate and e-mail polling delay both to 1 second for all day Saturday...Thanks again,-Dan _________________________________ -Dan Everette CFI, CFII, MEI 7900X OC @ 4.8GHz | ASRock Fatal1ty X299 Professional | 2 x EVGA GTX 1080 Ti FTW3 (SLI) | 32GB G.Skill DDR4 2800
December 13, 200322 yr Rob,Thanks for keeping us in the picture! The "Teams" thoroughness is impressive. The high standard already set by PMDG is going to be lifted even further with the imminent release of SU2.Cheers,Danny Vickers :-waveAdelaide, Australia
December 13, 200322 yr Hi Robert and the rest of the PMDG team.I really do appreciate you candor at this point in the release of SU2. Your hard work is really appreciated by the majority of PMDG737 users. Your pursuit of excellence is a true testimonial of your dedication to this project and the FS community in general; all of you are to be applauded for such dedication.I would hope that the development team and the beta team take a deep breath and ask the very hard question, when we are approaching the point of diminishing returns. After many years in the software development business there gets to be that point where you can't quite reach the 100% perfection point. You then have to ask, is 99.9% OK, I have been there with very critical business software. At that point you take the stand and say lets launch and then go forward. I was once asked by a business associate if I was handicapped by perfection paralysis. I hate to say this but I was approaching this state, if it ain't 100% I would not release. Well it took by close friends and advisors to convince me that state is exactly what our competitors wanted us to be in, so they could move past us. Point in my analogy is perfection is elusive, if the beta and development team know that most people will love it as is, then go for launch. Fix any minor things in the 800/900 release and keep stepping. You guys are the most outstanding developers in the new FS9 world. Go forward and don't even think about looking back, you are just the greatest.CheersBob Johnson
December 13, 200322 yr here's a thought...you and your team take the entire weekend off and spend the time with your families and significant others.when you get up there in age, you will come to see that it is the right thing to do.take your time:-) CPU: Core i5-6600K 4 core (3.5GHz) - overclock to 4.3 | RAM: (1066 MHz) 16GB MOBO: ASUS Z170 Pro | GeForce GTX 1070 8GB | MONITOR: 2560 X 1440 2K
December 13, 200322 yr Author Commercial Member Mike-Yeah... this is the most salient comment i've heard in the forum in awhile....We do, actually... We work hard- but we take time to enjoy ourselves in the process. For most of us- this is a passtime that borders on the verge of nuts sometimes- but that doesn't mean that we eliminate all other aspects of life...A few days ago one of my two dogs suddenly took ill- and at the ripe age of seven, we learned that she has only a few days left. You can imagine how hard it has been around the house lately- especially given that she normally spends her days curled up under my chair while I'm working on PMDG stuff.... And she is normally the only one who stay s up with me into the wee hours of the morning when we are working on something heavy....The past few days have found me paying quite a bit more attention to the fact the time I do take away from the PMDG hobby is very important.....So folks- remember: This life thing is very fragile! Enjoy it- and be nice to each other! Robert S. Randazzo PLEASE NOTE THAT PMDG HAS DEPARTED AVSIM You can find us at: http://forum.pmdg.com
December 13, 200322 yr Wow... I am a huge dog fan. I have the flu and my two dogs have been nothing but comfort to me as a go through the 5 hour tylenol cycles. I can only offer my hopes and prayers for your dog and you as you go through this. ___Josh
December 13, 200322 yr Robert,Thanks for keeping us updated, It is nice to be kept informed about the progress. Good luck with the final stages of SU2 :)And of course thankyou for the hard work you guys and the beta guys have been putting into SU2.Mark
December 13, 200322 yr Robert, Really appreciate the proactive updates as release becomes "imminent". Also, like the new website a lot, 'specially the placeholder for "the queen" planned for the future! Aloha from Hawaii,
December 13, 200322 yr Robert,I too have my faithful pal here under my desk at my feet whenever I am here... She too is 7...and a most valued member of my family.I have come to know several four legged members in my family over the past 44 years... and not one was ever less important than my hobbies or computer.. which by the way always (more or less!)returns to the same place it was when it was last used.No living creature does that.. they always have a finite life as we do.. we are compelled to participate in those lives or lose them.. and the priceless moments therein...Family members, no matter how many legs.. are always more important.. today, tomorrow, forever!Regards,Ted Panamarioff - Kodiak, Alaska
December 13, 200322 yr Robert,My thoughts.I would probably not hurry the SU. I'd fix the two items. People have waited so long, waiting for another couple of days is nothing. Also, I feel really bad for your dog and you. I myself have two cats, and when I was a kid we always had a dog. I had to personally take my last dog to VETs for a sleeping shot, as he had become very ill. I will never forget that day. Dogs and cats equal family in my vocabulary, and seeing that you have to now go through this while at the same time taking all kinds of "advice" from almost strangers here makes it kinda hollow.Tero PPL(A)
