July 15, 200421 yr Commercial Member John-We have been discussing this internally for awhile- and I have every reason to suspect that we will eventually install an IRS unit in the airplane...One thing I neglected to mention in my above post- is that this service update is primarily a "fixer" not an "adder." (poor use of the language...sorry..) Based on our current plan, we wanted to tie up a few loose ends before shifting the entire development focus to the 744....Currently half the team is entirely 744 focused, and the other half is working on both airplanes. That gets a bit difficult!Once we have the IRS fully implemented in the 744, it *should* (stress: if we've done it right!) be a relatively simple back-fit into the NG....I am not making any promises about timing or schedules- but I suspect you'll see an update for the 737 series after the 747-400 is released- this update will add a couple of new features that we have planned for the 744 that were not included in the 737.These new functions are expected to be part of a regular service update and not part of an "upgrade purchase" plan of any sort....So in the mean time- the simulated IRS data provided to all your NG systems continues to fulfill the purpose. I'm always amused by the "IRS Champions" who don't know that the IRS is not just a position data provider for the FMC.... Can anyone name the other 34 (i think..or was it 38? i forget) systems that rely on IRS data?Like we've said all along- when we can do it correctly.... we'll do it. ;-) Robert S. July 15, 200421 yr Commercial Member Clayton-Stuttering is traditionally the result of your machine having to buffer alot of video data.... Buffering is generally a good sign that the combination of scenery, aircraft and weather is too much for your system to digest smoothly. It can happen on ANY machine, regardless of speed- and it can also be resolved on any machine, regardless of speed. To give you an idea what I mean:My primary machine is a P3.4 with 2GB of memory and a top end video card with 256MB on it. (In other words: Monster Development Rig.) If I set MSFS up to fly with all the visual details maxed, visual ranges maxed, detailed clouds and our 737 into a densely modelled urban area with custom scenery, my machine will exhibit stutters. If I dial the visuals down, i can make the stutters go away. Sure, the smoothness comes at a price in terms of visual quality- but on a HIGH end machine- the price is very small...In order to be able to work from my hotel layovers- i carry a laptop with me in my flight case. The laptop is a P1.5 with 1GB of RAM and a 64MB video display card... I can run FS9 with our airplan on this machine ONLY if I dial the scenery and visuals WAY DOWN. But it will run smoothly! On thing to be certain of: Limit your frame rate to an FPS that is reasonable for your machine. I've found this to be the simplest method to ensure even FPS when using the simulator....Hope some of this thought process helps- or at least gives you some ideas. The PMDG 737 is a "heavy" airplane in FS... But it will run well if you are willing to work with your sim and computer a bit! Robert S. July 15, 200421 yr No seriously, I mostly make only an autoland if the WX is realy stabil and land with VREF30+5. PS. Don't you think the pitch is a bit to low for VREF30+5? It's only 2 degrees or less.
July 15, 200421 yr Robert,Thanks very much on all the info you provided.I fully understand the reasons for not implementing an IRS at present, and fully support PMDG in their fantastic venture to continuously raise the bar when it comes to realism, quality and support. These are the sole reasons I await the 744,I just wanta see how well it's going to be done!John http://homepage.eircom.net/~eamonnmca/images/logo_ba.JPGwww.bavirtual.co.uk Senior Captain Simflight.com Staff Reviewer
July 15, 200421 yr A glitch i noticed i do not know where it originates:sometimes, when you select and activate a sid/star BEFORE entering the in-route waypoints, sometimes (well often in my case) when you enter the first waypoint and LSK it, the FMC automatically generates an unsanable route discontinuity. If you try to LSK that point on the route disc to clear it, you will end up with a screwed route.Only solution is to erase (if you didn't press the ACT) or complitely blanking and restarting.Have you ever been notified of this behaviour? If so, have you planned to fix it?Thanks
July 16, 200421 yr Thanks Robert... Am looking forward to both updates...------------------------------------------------------------------Joe F."It's not the fall that kills ya. It's the sudden stop at the end"http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpg
July 16, 200421 yr For those of us considering purchasing the full on NG package in the near future (all the 73s), will this update be integrated with the download/installer package? Or will we have to download the patch separately in any case? Thanks!~Nate
July 16, 200421 yr Hi Robert,I already own the 600/700. If I want to now make the purchase to get the 800/900 with the enhanced 600/700, do I purchase and download the file that exists, and then run these future updates, or are there step updates that need to be performed? Thanks,John - John Drago
July 16, 200421 yr Where can I find the livery displayed just inside the cover of the 'JULY/August issue of 'PC Pilot' with 'FAM' written on the tail? Its a fabulous texture with real chrome.Rgds,Dave.ASUS KT333 M/Board, Radeon9800Pro128mb, 1024DDR, ATI xp2400+CPU, 80 gb HDD Dave Taylor
July 17, 200421 yr There is nothing wrong in this department. If you select a procedure and then a wpt not associated with the procedure (a common starting orending) you will certainly get a DISCON. In fact anytime you add or take away from the FMC route you will get a DISCON. If you try to program a route wpt that is simply impossible for the aircraft to perform it will DISCON. There are many reasons, so what you do is simulate a DISPATCH sheet for programing your route. Just selecting various (I like this wpt point *click*) is not realistic. Pilots have a very well documented route printed before they arrive on the aircraft. Now that being said, you can program a route and then modify it for departure but even then you must be sure that the aircraft can perform what you're asking it to do. Best Wishes,[h4]Randy J. July 17, 200421 yr I can't wait for the updates! I have not had any of the problems cited by others in your maintenance board; however, it would be great to fly the 700 with the vc switches operable as they are in the 800-900 series.:-)
July 17, 200421 yr >> There is nothing wrong in this department. If you had read better you'd notice there is.>If you select a>procedure and then a wpt not associated with the procedure (a>common starting orending) you will certainly get a DISCON.Obviously.But is to also meant not be deletable?>Now that being said, you can program a route and then modify>it for departure but even then you must be sure that the>aircraft can perform what you're asking it to do. Haveing a vor selected for first waypoint, and entering a sid which ends on that waypoint, and resulting in impossibility of clearing the route disco is not a standard i think. This has happened to me with many sids and stars. It appears to be caused by errors in the procedures.

July 17, 200421 yr Thanks. One more question. Over time, I have added code (simple stuff) for wing views and stairs to those liveries that didn't have them. After the purchase and upgrade with the new patches are complete, will I have to add back in this code? Thanks again,John - John Drago
