During a flight from KDEN-KATL I experienced another occurrence of the 360 degree winds aloft. Basically, as I was climbing to altitude, the winds shifted by cycling almost 360 degrees counter-clockwise from one setting to another.A second and perhaps new observation:Also while flying KDEN-KATL, the winds at FL370 were 172@74. Yet, the METAR was reporting FL340 283&78 and FL390 279&74. I had no flight plan loaded and enroute wind smoothing disabled. After executing a manual refresh the winds slowly came around to what they should be.-michael

Thanks again MichaelJimActiveSky Support

Just flew from Atl to Ord. Got some severe wind shifts on-route. Had route based-wind smoothing on. I noticed that the Wind Smoothing setting within FSUIPC (registered version) kept turning off. I always leave it on, and I turned it back on a few times during the flight only to find it switched off again. I'm not sure if this is by design, or something else. Almost finished a flight with AS2004 and MR1,Approaching to Land with the A320 Suddenly the Airspeed went to 0 like Icing formed, After some seconds the airspeed regained but overspeed the a/c while flying in level flight and caused Overstresed ;-(. I have No Icing in the FSUIPC and on Active Sky also prevent Icing checked.Chris

A couple of things on my flight yesterday. Flying the PMDG 737 from Montego Bay to Houston at FL350 in clear air, I had a drop in airspeed over Cuba from 270knots to 136 which caused a stall warning. I fliped the probe heat on and off and eventurally the airspeed came back to normal. There were no strage temperature changes. Temp was -27C.Also I have now disabled the Wind route smoothing and I did not set a route into AS4. I did experience any constant updates and stutters on this flight and there were NO SUDDEN wind changes. What I did get was wind movements in slow incredments which was very nice. I do have wind changes in increments set inside of FSUIPC, which seems to have worked very well on this flight.I know that Damian is working on these problems reported, but it seems after this flight that Wind Route smoothing has the major bug in it. My other observation is that the one time I did use Wind Smoothing, AS4 took the average wind for the entire flight and thats what was on my wind indication on the ND on the 737-700 and inside of FS9. Although this did not prevent wind shifts and it was terribly inaccurate as flew along. WITHOUT wind route smoothing on this last flight the aloft winds were accurate to each location as reported by the NWS ADDS function for aloft winds.Until you find a fix, I will continue to use AS4 with Wind Route Smoothing OFF.ThanksBob

>WITHOUT wind route smoothing on this last flight the>aloft winds were accurate to each location as reported by the>NWS ADDS function for aloft winds.>>Until you find a fix, I will continue to use AS4 with Wind>Route Smoothing OFF.>>Thanks>>Bob Bob,By design enroute wind smoothing is not going to give you winds that correspond accurately with forecast winds (you will note that wind enroute wind smoothing is enabled you get such a warning after the winds aloft reports).I have been flying with MR1 exclusively with enroute wind smoothing turned off as I want the sim winds to reflect the forecast winds. While I have not had many severe wind shifts, they do still occur occasionally. Also, I have seen the wind cycle counter-clockwise as it adjusts from say 240@45 to 260&45: which means the aircraft sees a counstant shift in winds as they cycle through direction shifts totalling 340 degrees, rather than cycling through a direction shift of only 20 degrees.-michael

Hi Michael,Yes I did know as you pointed out that wind enroute smoothing would give you smoother winds, but not NWS accurate with MR1 beta. Too be honest I wrote this to give Jim and Damiam a "feel" that this attempt to smooth winds is not quite "as real as it can be" (grin).Like you I now will only fly with with wind smoothing off, and like you YES I did notice this long cycle process. Flying over the Gulf of Mexico, I had a wind change of 250/50 to 300/45 and it went counter clockwise to get there, but in nice smooth increments of 1-5 degrees per second. Even thought this is not what one would like, it sure helped the PMDG 737 maintain a nice even course and no sudden wind shifts which I just hate. Just a lot of more work for Damian and JimBob

The other thing that I had happen is somewhere in the process of cycling, the winds froze. As a result, despite the winds being westerly, they showed as easterly. It was not until I forced a refresh that things straightened out. >Just a lot of more work for Damian and JimYes, it is. And I give them a great deal of credit for advancing as far as they have in overcoming some difficult obstacles. -michael

Hi All,Yes, all this is true. Users, there has to be trade-offs with many of these options. The team has heard good ideas from so many users that options have been added with each release. In November the Options screen was empty compared to now! But with many options comes data that might not match "right on". What this does is it gives each user a chance to decide what they feel is most important in FS. Think smooth winds is too far off? Un-check it! I do and still have smooth winds. Don't like counter clockwise wind shifts? Un-check it! I do, and wind direction changes in both directions. Bob, this is not an attack at you! I just used your two examples because they are on my screen right now. You have been a great customer from the beginning! We do appreciate your feedback and comments! Keep reporting them! It's a way to make things better!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Hi JimUnderstand that all the options that AS now has are all good for the users. I think we all are almost overwhelmed with so many and how best to use them. I think you and Damian are going in the right direction. These little bug reports sometimes sound nit picking, but I hope they help you guys get all the options working properly.Keep up the good work.Bob

> Don't>like counter clockwise wind shifts? Un-check it! I do, and>wind direction changes in both directions. LoL - I really never *thought* to uncheck the counter clockwise wind shifts .... duhh! :-) I just figured it was the way to go to overcome a bug in the MS winds aloft engine. I will give it a try on my next flight!-michael

Hi folks, One thing I've noticed with the Beta, when I ALT TAb out of FS9 the Active Sky program takes forever (sometimes a few minutes) to redraw. This tells me something is very very busy. Other porgrams that may be running do not do this. Other than that, the winds are more better ;-0 and I haven't seen any cloud pops. The only thing I see is some flickering of ditant clouds, but I'm fairly certain it is FS9. I'm running clouds at 80 miles now.Chris

Chris,Refresh does take some time now.Yes, that cloud(s) right at 80 miles may flicker just a bit until it is fully drawn.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

I dont get my winds direction nor speed on the active sky program..why is that?
