February 17, 200422 yr First - If you want a real treat, then fly into KSFO. The cloud formations, multiple layers, etc. mixed with a sunrise or sunset - schweeet!Ok - the bug report:Just arrived KSFO from KSAN. Flew up the left coast and as I decended towards KSFO you could see the broken cloud bank hanging over the city and clear everywhere else. Winds at KSFO were reported as 170@23G34. I was vectored for 19L. As I flew north passing just east of KOAK, visibility dropped to less than 10 miles. Yet the KSFO metar reported 10SM and the active reporting station showed 25SM.The low visibility continued as I was vectored to base and then final. On final descended through 1000 I noticed that actual surface winds were 170@8. Yet the current Metar on AS4 showed 170@23G34. And, the low visibility remained despite KSFO still reporting 10SM (and I'm now less than 2 miles from touchdown). All the while, AS4 is going through repeated refreshes - no pausing in between them. During one refresh, I did get visibility greater than 10 SM but the next refresh (which occurred immediately) the visibility dropped back down to less than 10 miles (more like 5).So, I continue the approach and on short final I notice my descent flattening out and the wind indicator on my ND show 170@29. Simultaneously, the visibility jumped to better than 10SM which is what it should have been all along.-michael
February 18, 200422 yr Jim,My AS2004 Configuration follows. Please note that I have tried various option settings to resolve the destination cloud cover issue I seem to be having. February 18, 200422 yr >Thanks,>>Flight plan loaded or no?>>Jim>ActiveSky SupportJim,Yes. Flight plan loaded. TAF disabled, Route-Based Wind Smoothing disabled, Enforce visibility limits (min 0 max 75), Force Destination Wx Zone enabled, Auto global write toggle enabled, update suppresion enabled (9000 ft, 100 m), local range suppression enabled. That's it!-michael
February 18, 200422 yr OK, another one seeing continuous weather writes with a plan loaded.JimActiveSky Support
February 18, 200422 yr Hi All,Please keep the reports rolling in. Damian has checked in and has read all the reports. He'll be back in a few and will continue to work on the next release. We appreciate all your feedback!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support
February 18, 200422 yr "Import Plan" no longer remembers last used location.A PITA when you are using 2 PCs Martin
February 18, 200422 yr Hi,I was rather happy with the weather system in FS, but I had seen a few screenshots of others and the clouds looked different. So I went and bought this nice program :) Boy was I shocked at the change! The clouds had different altitudes and formations, not the same flat FS default. But then of course no program is perfect without some bugs right? ;)Anyway...Here are my observations. All below are with TAF processing.I often find that the clouds dissapear around me during flight when an update has occured. The metar may report clouds, but they still dissapear. I havent been able to figure out why this is happening yet though, because its not happening all the time. This has happen with or without a plan btw.The TAF report often includes a remark that its autogen weather from AS2004, but the problem is the report often include 4 remarks that are the same. Example from right now: ENRO 181206 25015KT 9999 SCT030 BKN080 BECMG 0206 25025KT TEMPO 2106 RA BKN012 RMK AUTO GENERATED AS2004 RMK AUTO GENERATED AS2004This is actually one of the better ones with only one duplicate remark, but I have seen up to 5. This may be a minor problem with all the other bugs, but I figured I would mention it anyway. There are also some minor errors in the way weather is being generated from the metar, but that may be a limitations I dont know about. Like the code "VC" should mean "in the vicinity", but whenever I see that in a report I get rain/snow at my location. Unless I misunderstood the meaning of "VC", this means there is no percipitation at the weather station, but somewhere around it.Last thing is not really a bug, but there are quite a few stations that have short term TAF reports. These dont seem to be used in AS2004. Would be nice if that could be fixed so the TAF processing would be more real. Thanks for reading this far. I'm flying mostly pistion engine airplanes so the dissapearing clouds is no fun. Usually fly between 5000 and 15000 feet.JT
February 18, 200422 yr Small update.I am now getting these wind/temp reports all over the world:FL030: 225/00 (-273.0) FL060: 225/00 (-273.0) FL090: 225/00 (-273.0)FL120: 225/00 (-273.0) FL180: 225/00 (-273.0) FL240: 225/00 (-273.0)FL300: 225/00 (-273.0) FL340: 225/00 (-273.0) FL390: 225/00 (-273.0)I'm freezzzzzing! :( Unless someone is messing with the server something is really wrong here now.JT
February 18, 200422 yr Besides the extremely log refreshing times I experience another problem.I cannot return from windowed mode to full screen when AS2004 is running.Pause on task switch is unchecked in FS9.Neither online updates nor route loaded. After waiting patiently for AS2004 to finish updating I switch back to full screen but FS9 keeps hanging in windowed mode with the cursor and hourglass flashing.Have to exit with taskmanager.Don't have any problems switching from windowed to full screen and viceversa with any other programn running simultaneously with FS9. Claering weather with FSUIPC (3.20 full version, wheather defaults), starting AS2004 before and/or during FS9 doesn't make any difference.Reinstalled version 1.00 and to my shock the problem stays! When starting AS2004 running and starting FS9 without switching views, the weathet changes as I switch between airports, sothis is the only way I can use AS2004 at the moment. As soon as I make any change in AS2004, FS9 hangs again.Any suggestions?Haromo

February 18, 200422 yr Hi Damian and Jim,I am still having problems with the cloud pop issue when AS2004 updates itself. Actually I am not sure but the area I have tested this was from a starting point of San Francisco down to Salt Lake City then up to CYQR (Regina Saskatchewan), then east to Thunder Bay, Ontario, then down to Minneapolis, then back up to CYEG, Edmonton Alberta, then down to Calgary, Alberta and then finally back to San Francisco. Are others having problems in these areas? Find me an area that has no cloud pop outs. Or is this computer configuration dependant (each to their own)?-------------------------------------------------------------------- I have read the Frequently asked questions and have adjusted the settings as follows to avoid cloud pop outs: I set my local suppression range to 150nm and my suppression altitude to 47000ft (well above my cruise altitude of 33000ft). , well this prevents cloud pop outs only because AS2004 does not update itself which is the reason for setting this in the first place.I disabled route-based wind smoothing with no flight plan, this never helped me with cloud pops. verified when setting suppression altitude down to 2000ft. I disabled visibility smoothing, this also never helped me with cloud pops. verified when setting suppression altitude down to 2000ft.----I am running AS2004 with WideFSI have tried this flight with normal defaults in AS2004. I have all options off in FSUIPC (Latest). The suppression altitude is at 2000ft and my local suppression range is 150nm. and I have tried this with all options off in AS2004 except for online updates-(10min), Disable text messages, use system time, Automatic time zone detection, use update suppression, use local range suppresion. I set the suppression altitude down to 2000ft and my local suppression range to 150nm. I have all options off in FSUIPC (Latest).--------I don't know if it is the area I am flying in but I do know that I will always have cloud pops for this route. ------Very Important below----------One thing that seemed to help along this route was: me was being able to refresh AS2004 immediatly after it has written to FSUIPC. I have reduced the cloud pops considerably. It is the old saying that the world waits for know one. AS2004 should not wait 10 minutes for the next update, that would mean the world has continued and AS2004 has stopped, but AS2004 should have the option to update immediatly right after it has written to FSUIPC, now AS20004 is current with the world and all moves forward. If AS2004 updates itself after 10 minutes and I have the cloud pop outs, immediatly if you do a refresh all clouds stay put. There we just did a AS2004 update with no cloud pops because the weather was current. This has helped me quite a bit with the cloud pops. I know you are going to say, well we just did an update and the next update will be the same, so no cloud changes but something else is going on here that I can't put my finger on I have flown farther without any cloud pop outs this way than if I waited 10 minutes then updated AS2004.--Every once in a while one will slip by (but not all the time) and I will have the cloud pop outs but it seems to be reduced considerably. There is still one problem to overcome, it is that I have my local suppression range to 150nm and my suppression altitude to 47000ft so then why would I get cloud pop outs when these settings are in place to prevent this when I continually (manually) refresh AS2004? I do have the program set for online updates every 5 minutes. I have also tried this with online updates disabled and then continually refresh AS2004 to get the latest weather. Maybe it does not matter which way I do this it is the same thing. If AS2004 updated itself every minute automatically, would all be ok, would this help? Remember the cloud pop outs are reduced and do not happen everytime. I do know I can fly further without any cloud changes, then if I let AS2004 do the auto update of weather , 10 minutes is to long but an update of 1 minute is more current weather. No stations should be aloud to update themselves when in the 150nm radius (which is what you may may have it set to). But I think stronger restrictions are needed in this area (maybe not). Was it a local station in the 150nm radius or was it outside the radius that is causing the problem. My altitude is set to prevent any updates from AS2004 and to eliminate cloud changes below 47000ft. But I had a cloud change, so the 47000ft can not be working properly, it just prevents AS2004 from updating itself. Maybe if I never manually refreshed AS2004 all would be ok and the 47000ft would be working properly. I have waited 30 minutes then refreshed the weather with online updates disabled and have had the cloud pops right after the data was written, which to me means AS2004 has to refresh all the weather and reset everything, but what if AS2004 could refresh every minute, but know I have the altitude problem of where to set this???????????I am more confused than anything right know. Further testing is required. If MR1 could have the option of reshreshing immediatly we could test this further. Please do not critizie this theory but I am just trying to let you know the testing I have done and to figure things out for myself. I have found some good things but you may have an explaination for me why things are the way they are. It does not seem to matter where I fly, I have cloud pops when AS2004 updates. So I do the prevention methods to stop the cloud pops. But at the same time I want current weather at my destination which forces me to do a refresh or something. Thanks for your timeVincent
February 18, 200422 yr Just planning a flight from KBUF to KSFO and boy is it cold at cruise :-)According to the Navlog winds are 225 at zero knots and temp is absolute zero (-273)!!!!Route based smoothing is on.Flight plan is exported to AS and METAR date/time is 181654ZThe other day I also had cruise speed drop to 45 kts, and yes pitot heat was on; it did eventually correct itself.I have screen shots of AS during both events if that is of any help.Rgds
February 18, 200422 yr brrr it's cold at 6500, -273F... Lets see engine stopped then aircraft overstressed???Alt -tabbing to AS2004 today really sucks...
