February 15, 200422 yr Damian and Jim,I did my first flight with the MR1 beta. I am using the PMDG 737NG. I reset all my settings to the points in the AS FAQ's. I did use the route wind smoothing function. On my departure from KDEN to CYYZ, I got the worst FPS since using FS9, but thought that something else could have caused this. I also use FS Real Time to control my date and time in FS. Today, I set it back to relect that Z time was equal to local time, that may have caused a problem.Next, however was the wind smoothing problem. Due to the action of the jet steam, which is very strong today, the winds were in a strong U loop from Canada down over Illinois and then almost due east over Michigan and Canada. After activating the route function in AS, I got a constant wind of 270/74 on the entire flight, which is not what the jetsteam was doing. The wind smoothing function does not work correctly with regard to the real aloft winds. I did not get any wind shifts, but the winds were totally wrong.I am going to do another flight tomorrow in real time with no route wind smoothing to see if this is better. My initial reaction is that the beta is worse than what we had before, but that is just my initial reaction to the code. I will write more later.Bob
February 15, 200422 yr Jim,Forget this thread. The problem I was having, I believe, is related to how FS9 was interpolating weather around this particular airport. Maybe from time to time an AS2004 downloaded metar data set doesn't have many surrounding airports for a particular destination airport so FS9 does a wide area interpolation causing a difference in reported and FS9 depicted weather. Up until I read Pete Dowson's comments on FS9 interpolation, I thought FS9 was static if the DYNAMIC slider was at NONE. Apparently, based on what he said, this isn't the case.I have had good results flying into another airport. Thanks for your help.
February 15, 200422 yr I have just landed from the flight mentioned above. As I descended toward the east coast of Australia the metar from YBCG became active and started an uninterrupted cycle of loading and changing visual weather. I checked AS and it was continually refreshing and only resumed normal service when I switched it off and then reloaded. After that - everything was normal except we have a clear blue sky - 0% clouds and AS showed a 50% partial overcast. Whilst we would like some overcast and respite from the current real weather it was not the correct representation.Andy b Andy Brockbank
February 15, 200422 yr Ditto. I no longer have accurate weather, and am back to default FS weather until this can be fixed. The prior Alpha did not have these issues, but then again wind was a problem and seems better in this beta.Noel Noel System: 9900X3D Noctua NH-D15 G2, MSI Pro 650-P WiFi, G.SKILL 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000, WD NVMe 2Tb x 1, Sabrent NVMe 2Tb x 1, RTX 4090 FE, Corsair RM1000W PSU, Win11 Home, LG Ultra Curved Gsync Ultimate 3440x1440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case, TCA Boeing Edition Yoke & TQ, Cessna Trim Wheel, RTSS Framerate Limiter w/ Front Edge Sync. February 15, 200422 yr I had the problem with continious writes to FSUIPC/FSand unstable weather at dep aiport.I updated to version 3.20 (registered)I selected to start AS2004 paused from options menu.I shut down & restarted AS2004I cleared wither vias FSUIPCI made two flights LGTS - LGAV & LGAV - LGRPNo continious FSUIPC/FS writes anymore Just a hint...I keep chekingI have not read yet FSUIPS 3.20 Manual for AS2004 recomendations.Sam Sam. February 15, 200422 yr HiI installed MR1 a couple of days back. It has made a big difference,I can now fly without those horrible wind shifts. But, I am having problems with Active Radar.Using FSWide. During the installation I had to manually copy the Active Radar folder to my FS modules folder, and manually copy the Active Radar.dll.I ran the ActiveRadarConnecter2. And Active Radar works OK, But, once I shut off the computers and re start Active Radar reports nothing, and tells me that the nearest weather reporting station is 1000 miles away. If I re run ActiveRadarConnector2 again it works!Any idea why I have to run ActiveRadarConnector2 every time I re boot?Roy
February 15, 200422 yr hi,i think im gonna wait to put in any update patches for AS2004 until everything (winds, metar hangups, cloud pops) are resolved... is this a good idea thou?anthony
February 15, 200422 yr Damian,In an attempt to determine why my destination weather was changing (as I posted previously in this thread) I monitored AS2004 activity as I approached my destination. I listened to FS9 ATIS as I approached from 60 miles out. For awhile the ATIS was reporting exactly what it should, i.e. it agreed almost exactly with the AS2004 metar for my destination. Right after an AS2004 "wind smoothing" write the ATIS started reporting clear skies, i.e. all cloud cover was gone. I was flying in OFFLINE mode with all AS2004 options at DEFAULT settings.I tried to repeat the flight with "Route Based Wind Smoothing" disabled in the AS2004 options. When I refreshed AS2004, it went into a continuous write cycle and would not stop. I think at least one other user has reported this. So, at least two issues I see:1. Wind Smoothing writes are having an effect on destination cloud cover.2. Disabling route based wind smoothing causes AS2004 to go into a continuous write cycle.
February 15, 200422 yr Anthony,It's really up to you. We try to release these Alpha and Beta updates so that as many different combinations of hardware and software combinations can be used. We always suggest to backup your original installation.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support
February 15, 200422 yr Hi All,Thanks to everyone for your reports. I've seen the every 10 second download and write syndrome, but it's a hit and miss thing with me. Please know that Damian will be checking in every few days to see what is going on, so keep posting.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support
February 16, 200422 yr Jim, can these continous writes cause the stutter problem that I saw. I do have the wind route smoothing off for my next flight.Bob
February 16, 200422 yr Sure could. I just tried to reproduce the effect, but couldn't do it no matter what my smoothing was set at.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support
February 16, 200422 yr I have also had the weather updating every 10 secs or so. I was flying out of Darwin, Australia (YPDN) to Adelaide (YPAD). The weather for Darwin on departure was changing from FEW035 to 1000m and OVC008 with Thunderstorms. The TS were on the TAF as TEMPO but were not on the METAR TTF.Approaching top of climb (FL330), the outside air temp in AS Beta 1 Build 81 said the OAT was -10 deg C but in FS9 is was showing as +22 deg C ??? Talk about a heat wave :DEdit: I have also noticed that the OAT is increasing as you climb as well (FL330 up to FL350 - temp incr from +22 deg C to + 24 deg C)The wind smoothing is working a treat from me, nice steady wind changes and no more huge changes. I haven't noticed any cloud popups this beta either.Keep up the great work guys!!!Cheers,
February 16, 200422 yr Hi All,Me again. I am able to reproduce the 10 second effect, on the ground, at my destination airport. Can anyone else test this? I would really like to nail this down for Damian.JimActiveSky Support
