August 18, 200322 yr Sounds like you guys hit the jackpot! Is there any equivalent to this tweak for ATI users?
August 18, 200322 yr >In my fs9.cfg I saw it named my video card:NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti>4200.0Just want to be sure I am doing it right- I changed the config file, then loaded sim. I noticed it still said "NVIDIA GeForce3 (Omega KX 1.4403).0" in the settings/display menu in FS, BUT the config file still has the setting I put in "DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA Drivers on Win2K/XP".So is this the same thing you experience?
August 18, 200322 yr I agree I don't have an fs9.cfg file anywhere on my system. Why would some people get it installed and others not get it?
August 18, 200322 yr "Sounds like you guys hit the jackpot! Is there any equivalent to this tweak for ATI users?"Been trying different configs in the FS9.cfg for the past couple of hours, Joel. No joy here so far. I'm running a 9700 Pro.The tweaking continues...
August 18, 200322 yr Hi,Just tried it on my 9700 pro. No increase in frame rates, never had stutters, but the terrain is much better looking. Try it.Ed
August 18, 200322 yr I checked this out--seemed to smooth performance, until I looked out the side at my wing and saw it was a bit washed out. So I checked H/W settings, and what I found was that the sim had reverted to 16-bit mode. Once switched back to 32-bit mode, performance was much the same...with the panel, a noted slowdown in fps in turns. Without it--smooth as glass.Once I changed back to 32-bit mode, a new entry was created for the 4200 TI in fs9.cfg...A generic setting can be created in the display.cfg for the 4200. You can then cycle through any of the options offered in the display.cfg. A switch back to 16 bit mode will certainly increase performance in the sim however. Below is a code snippet which can be pasted into the display.cfg for 4200 cards. Using a different 3 digit device ID (253 is used for the 4200) for the 4400-4800 can give you a section in the display.cfg which you can tweak pretty much to your heart's content... ;------------------------------------------------; GeForce4 4200 9x/2000/XP;------------------------------------------------[000010DE:00000253]Disable=2 (this is just an example of the one setting mentioned in the thread)-John
August 18, 200322 yr Did anyone with an ATI Radeon card try this and what are your results, I think I will but sounds just like a Nvidia problem. I looked at my Cfg and it too was different. Please share with us.Adam [email protected]
August 18, 200322 yr Commercial Member Hi, A) It will be located in your personal Application Data folder. On Windows 2000/XP systems, this is located in Documents and SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftFS9FS9.cfg for Windows 9x users the path is WindowsApplication DataMicrosoftFS9fs9.cfg). The Application Data folder is hidden, so you will need to enable viewing of hidden files/folders under the Folder Options in your Explorer.ThanksChris Willis Kind RegardsChris Willis
August 18, 200322 yr Ok I think there is some confusion here, could someone please show EXACTLY where this is going and what it should look like, I have 4200 and win98. In the display.cfg there are no entries for my card and win 9x also do I just put the top line there as I posted above or am i changing the fs9.cfg. Im still slightly confused. It looks like geofa's post had some slightly switched phraseology concerning the cfg file and the display.cfg.Thanks, i want to try this!hornit
August 18, 200322 yr Actually I didn't expect this to fix everyone-but if it does great! :-)I was just nosing around the display.cfg file and noticed there was a setting for every card listed except mine (geforce 4 4200ti). I then looked at the fs9.cfg and noticed that it seemed to be calling my card-which was not listed in the display.cfg list. I then thought that maybe it called for that card-and then ended up loading something else when it could not find it. Therefore I changed the setting in the fs9.cfg to look for the generic nvidia card-and bingo-all my sliders worked and performance was better. It seems to work-but their could be a bigger issue here. Perhaps the display.cfg is lacking settings/proper settings to allow the cards to work properly-and in the case of my card was missing an entry entirely?I am no video card expert so I don't claim to know the answer-but I do know it seems to have about doubled the fps and also answered my puzzling result of sliders not doing anything one way or the other (they do now).Good luck!http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/Geofdog2.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
August 18, 200322 yr Maybe I didn't get this right. please step by step explain what you did..I still get stutters and tried both here did I miss something?
August 18, 200322 yr Ok in my display.cfg there is no section that says NVIDIA Drivers on WIN 9x/ME only one that says WIN 2K/XPIf there is no section for WIN98 (OS I run) am I out of luck???Maybe that is why the stutters here??? Im gonna add my own and see what happens.Geofa, Did you change the display.cfg or the fs9.cfg to match this line. Im still confued by your post :)Hornit
August 18, 200322 yr Hi,what he did was this:"e.g. the entry in fs9.cfg was:DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200.0Only problem is-I looked in the display.cfg file and found no entry that matched this?!I then changed the entry in fs9.cfg to:DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA Drivers on Win2K/XP"This line "NVIDIA Drivers on Win2K/XP" is in DISPLAY.CFGRegards,Pedro
