April 22, 200719 yr Could someone, at least move this post to the H/W forum, the original OP post and most others, are not directly related to FSX, so it really doesn't belong in this section. Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
April 23, 200719 yr Another reader has been duped.Kernel changes are ONLY required due to other trivial options such as the aeroglass interface for Vista. The meat and potato's of DX10 that gaming developers want/need does not require Kernel changes.Microsoft will go thru DX10 for WinXP if enough users complain and gaming companies get involved. But I had the opportunity to preview some DX10 games and was very dissappointed with the performance when the cool FX were turned up -- it left me wondering just how capable these DX10 cards really are? I don't know if this is just nVidia driver problem or just poor coding implementation or if DX10a is needed. I suspect it might be a combination of all three. My optimism for DX10 FSX is not as high as it was.Rob.
April 25, 200719 yr Vista and XP deal with graphics in some very dis-similar ways, it may not be easily possible to implement Directx 10 on Windows XP.Best and Warm RegardsAdrian Wainer
April 26, 200719 yr Rob, I'm thinking about going to MacPro. Do we have any idea when a DX10 video card will be available? I would not go this road unless I could get DX10 funtionality by dual booting to XP or Vista.Noel Noel System: 9900X3D Noctua NH-D15 G2, MSI Pro 650-P WiFi, G.SKILL 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000, WD NVMe 2Tb x 1, Sabrent NVMe 2Tb x 1, RTX 4090 FE, Corsair RM1000W PSU, Win11 Home, LG Ultra Curved Gsync Ultimate 3440x1440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case, TCA Boeing Edition Yoke & TQ, Cessna Trim Wheel, RTSS Framerate Limiter w/ Front Edge Sync. April 27, 200719 yr >What you will get in your MacPro is:>>1. Ability to playing games in Vista (DX10) or WinXP (DX9) in>dual boot>2. Ability to do all other Microsoft 2D apps directly in OSX>3. Ability to do all OSX apps (Universal Binary or>otherwise)>4. The quietest and most well design PC on the planet >After reading your posts I have had a look at this Macpro (and also other Macs). Two things strikes me. The price is significantly higher than a new PC.Also there were no choice for a 512M graphics card and going from 1 Gb to 2 Gb RAM was very costly (compared to PC) why? From what I have heard the real requirements for FSX is 2 Gb RAM and a 512M DDR3 graphics card which makes me wonder how FSX can run fine on the MacPro.Otherwise they wrote a lot of things about the MAC that sound interesting. For example it just works. That for example is not my experience with the PC.If you got more than one OS on it how is the harddrive shared? Or do you need one extra harddrive for each OS?
