For everyone bashing Vista

...and I have no intention of buying Vista right now, as I don't need it, here is a reasoned and balanced viewpoint on why we need to just sit back and relax.http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html...W50aHVzaWFzdA=="I look at the impact Windows has made on the world, and it simply impresses me. Let's face it: Microsoft's Windows operating systems did not make $10,000,000,000.00 (yes, ten billion US Dollars) in 2006 because its products are inherently bad. You can scream,

And more: http://consumer.hardocp.com/article.html?a...CxoY29uc3VtZXI=This is really no surprise, nor is this release of an MS OS any different from the past few years. Most folks who adopt Vista early on are those that have no choice (they buy their PC's pre-built with all software pre-installed, and Vista will be their only choice). Many busineses and those that do their own upgrades will wait for the dust to settle. And we may wait a very long time unless some incarnation of Vista finally wows us.Hopefully, once the FSX DX10 upgrade is released Vista/FSX will be... really awesome!Greg

Hopefully, once the FSX DX10 upgrade is released Vista/FSX will be... really awesome!--------------------------------------------------------------------One interesting development might occur. If most game enthusiasts will not be tempted to buy Vista MERELY to get DX10...then video card manufacturers will THEN apply pressure on MS to bring DX10 to stalwart XP gaming enthusiasts. They won't overlook the XP market base to hype their DX10 parts to!I really believe that this will happen. People just have to hunker down and sort of 'call a strike' upon Vista.Mitch R.

Reasoned and balanced? It's an infomercial by a self-described "huge Microsoft fan". Please....

You call that article "reasoned and balanced"?. But, at least he agrees with all of those of us who "bash" Vista. To quote the author "I personally see no reason to upgrade to Windows Vista...except for that whole DX10 thing." And, to many of us, the "DX10" thing just isn't worth all the other pain.Just consider this from one of the "Vista bashers" - DX10 was developed using WinXP but MS says that it won't work with WinXP. Kind of makes one wonder doesn't it? Indeed, there is little to commend with Vista except DX10 and MS has intentionally witheld DX10 from WinXP knowing that it's really the only selling point they have.Doug

>Don't we have enough of these threads already?Respectfully, Brian, no

While I agree wholeheartedly with Charlies statement, I agree we have more than enough of these posts already. More than enough to tell all reasonable, thinking people who enjoy flight simming to steer well clear of Vista for the forseeable future. All Vista Simmers are going to get is a slightly slower FSX, or problems. At best, it works the same. Leaving aside all non-simming issues for personal research and decision-making as nothing to do with the purpose and function of this forum, there are no grounds for buying Vista at all, yet.:)Allcott

I agree with Charlie without the "go down in flames" part. I think this should be discussed in detail. I want the early birds to share experience, gurus to share knowledge and this community to participate in debate about this. MS setting the stage to switch everyone over to a new OS is not a minor deal. Yes, it affects gamers, but more importantly, it affects the industry as a whole. As computer reliant as we are, it affects many aspects of day to day work and play. It's worth the discussion. And since it appears to impact our beloved FS9 and FSX it is also worth discussing in detail here.

Charlie...I felt the article spoke to its subject in a balanced and informative tone. That subject was:* Has Microsoft captured the OS market? - Yes* Does Vista bring anything so new or revolutionary that I need to upgrade right now? - No* Should we wait and see what happens down the road as the OS matures and develops? - Yes* Will some of us upgrade because our nature is to be first adopters - YesSo as I said, sit back and relax. Now from your other posts, it seems that you are more concerned about DRM and other licensing issues. Those are valid topics, and topics that can and should be discussed, but that was not the thrust of my post. Finally, I apologise to all for my use of the term "bashers". Reasonable people having reasonable discussions, but differing opinions should not be labled as such. It was not my intent to denigrate, only to say on the topic of should I upgrade?, to wait and see.Cheers,bt

I agree...while I am not going to go to Vista at the present time, I certainly am not going to bash Vista, either. I'll reserve judgment for much later. It will take at least a year for us to determine if Vista will be like WinMe, or not.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2310 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 2.5-3-3-8 (1T), WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian case

Very naive statements made in that article by someone that seems to have very little understanding of business. The best thing any business can do is control every aspect of their environment -- this very goal is what kills innovation. Vista lacks A LOT of innovation and much of Vista's GUI has be extracted from Mac's OSX. But ask yourself what you wanted from your next OS -- is it in Vista? The PC Market (volume of PC's sold) has averaged about 9% increase per year since 2000 (it has flattened out these past 2 years in the US, but this is average of the period). So from 2000 until now that is accumulative volumes increase of 68%. Microsoft are publishing Vista as

Speaking as a person who HAS Vista, I can say one thing is universally true: There is no *compelling* reason to upgrade to Vista unless you just want a pretty new interface and DX10. Other than that what have I gotten with Vista Ultimate that you don't have in XP?1 - Windows Sidebar - Nice clock and weather widget, HA!2 - Vista Glass effects3 - DX10 (don't have a DX10 card)4 - Did I mention Vista Glass?5 - New Start Button6 - How about that Windows Sidebar, huh?7 - It runs games more slowly, so you have more time to savor and enjoy them. The lower frame rates also allow you to enjoy every frame instead of them all blurring together!8 - Oh wait, Vista Ultimate has the equivalent of XP Media Center built in! You never know when you want to turn your PC into a TV!The disappointing thing is that I've been running Vista for 8 months and that is all I've really found :-(
