All very interesting... the OP is the actual topic of the thread. In that post there was a claim for bugs that don't exist. That's not opinion, it's fact.I've corrected the OP's statements... and stated I don't work for free. If you find fault with my refusal to work for free, then I do believe it's safe to assume you fly anyone, anywhere free of cost to them. Am I right? After all, I purchased an airline ticket once... and it should be good for any "flight version" that's out there... based on your mentality.

There seems to be a continuation of the myth that there's no real, substantial differences between an FS9 model and a true FSX model. Let's recap just a few of the more obvious ones then...FS9:..model....model.cfg....MyModel.mdl..texture....Some.BMP....More.BMPFSX:..model.....model.cfg.....MyModel_exterior.mdl.....MyModel_interior.mdl..texture.....Some.DDS.....Some_bump.DDS.....Some_spec.DDS.....More.DDS.....More_bump.DDS.....More_spec.DDS.....MyFresnelRamp.DDS.....MyEnvMap.DDSFor true FSX, the original FS9 model is useless. It must be rebuilt to create two completely different models. In addition, all the original Materials must be removed, and new, FSX Materials created, and new "bump" and "specular" bitmaps designed. As an added bonus, custom environment, reflection and fresnel ramp textures might be required, if the defaults prove insufficient to the task.Worse, all animations must be scrapped and completely rebuilt. In the case of custom animations, the embedded XML code must be converted to the new FSX syntax. Now the above only cover the model and textures, I haven't even mentioned the changes to the entire panel and gauge system, which also requires some rather substantial changes if one is going to take advantage of new FSX specific features, aside from the changes needed simply to get the engine starting routines working... ;)On average, a true FSX release requires at least 20% more W-O-R-K than a comparable FS9 release. :-beerchug

Yet :) it is under dev right now, for the upcoming DreamFleet Dakota (FS9 and FSX) and will be offered standalone for FSX at the same time roughly. Thank you for the reminder! FLT and N are now almost entering beta tests too (brushing up the ST55X included in the FLN).

FLT and N>are now almost entering beta tests too (brushing up the ST55X>included in the FLN).JL, couple of questions...1. Are you saying that you are updating your products for FSX at no cost to the user?2. Is DF releasing a "dual sim version" including your product line at no additional costs to users for either FS9 and FSX versions?3. Can you clarify please?

Hi Ron, I don't think there is much to clarify, since I was just giving more information to Ed which is missing the RXP GNS 530 for FSX, that the FSX version is under development right now, so he can expect it in the near future. This is not implying anything or not about the cost of the FSX version, although, since we have updated all our products from their v1.0 for FS2002 up to their v5.x for FS2004 for free so far (no new charges for the last 6 years for new versions), and have many times given discounts to new products for existing customers, and given the amount of investement for our new Gauges XTreme development framework to offer 32 bits ultra high resolution graphics (our released Wx500 can be enlarged as far as 1900x1800 pixels with no pixel doubling...the bitmap is actually this size), custom and color mouse cursors, new TDXP v6.0 wich is faster than all previous generations, and a number of enhancements in sound and keyboard shortcuts, it is safe to assume we will not be able to deliver new and enhanced products for the next 6 years like we did in the previous 6 years, i.e. for free. We do offer time limited discounts for FSX version for existing customers though. And I've forget to add: our Gauge XTreme framework is key to offer compatible products for both FS9 and FSX with the same code. This means that our new versions of the products (like for example the FLT/N for FSX), will run as well in FS9 with the same high level of graphics and functions. This just requires some manual file handling obviously, since the configuration tools and the installer aim to FSX setup. (in short, just take the rxpFLT.DLL gauge, and rename it to rxpFLT.GAU in your FS9 gauge folder). As for DF versions, I'll let Lou answer this better than me! these are his products, not mines. However I think the Dakota will come as one price for 2 aircraft: FSX + FS9.Hope this helps!

"....it is safe to assume we will not be able to deliver new and enhanced products for the next 6 years like we did in the previous 6 years, i.e. for free. We do offer time limited discounts for FSX version for existing customers though."Thanks JL, we offer the same time limited discounts as you outlined (30% discount for 30 days :-) ) for FSX Products so completely understand. We also understand the need to provide standalone FSX Version at it's own price point.Of course Lou can answer for himself but my question was directed to an "dual sim version of his product for one price" with your FS9/FSX avionics included, ala Baron/Bonanza?Perhaps Lou and yourself can shed some light on that question? As we've outlined..that seems a pretty tough nut to crack for any developer:-)

"However I think the Dakota will come as one price for 2 aircraft: FSX + FS9."Isn't that enough already? Either Dreamfleet has some magical and secret SDK to do the work only once to create two versions for both sims...or they just "love to work for free". Doubt that either case is true though. It's just marketing decisions. Certain policies may drive away some customers. But as long as it maximizes the overall profit it's a successful policy. It's a hobby for us but it's a business for the developers. Personally, eaglesoft's policy may be undesirable or even unacceptable for some, I can't say there is anything really wrong in it. Jason

Development/Marketing decisons must be made given the changing FS development paradigm. So far, we've been unable to bridge the gap on the "two for the price of one" or the "infinite upgrades for free" issues and suspect that others will have to follow suite in one form or another...Individual developers on a team simply will not double their workloads without just compensation and who can blame them:-)I wouldn't ask such a thing from them, even though some in the community have the audacity to expect them too...what an insult.:-(

When we released the Archer III for FS9 we stated that those who buy it will get the FSX version at no additional cost upon its release. I guess we'll do this via a coupon with no time limit. Now, will the FSX version of the Archer III be a complete re-build of the model to take advantage of all the FSX eye candy features? No. Then again, we're not charging any extra either, even though additional work and beta testing will still be involved for the FSX version. Will the Archer III for FSX include Jean-Luc's latest gauges, programmed in his Gauge Xtreme technology? Yes.As to my Dakota, the model philosophy will be the same as the Archer III (use of the FS9 model for both versions), though we hope to release both Dakota versions at the same time since the new RXP gauges will soon be available. As to what the Dakota will offer: Right now it will be my Dakota plus a Turbo Dakota (the turbo has a different cowling). Both will otherwise share the same 2D panels from my Dakota, with a couple of minor gauge differences for the Turbo. Both will feature three resolutions / aspect ratios of the 2D panel (4:3, 5:4 and 16:10).How will we package it? Right now (and this could be subject to change) I am thinking in terms of one package where the user selects the version of FS to install to. If the user wants it in both versions then they just run the installer twice and select the appropriate version. The second time around they would use their key / 4-digit code to install (Flight 1 Wrapper). As to the price of the two Dakotas for both FS9 and FSX?I discussed this with Jean-Luc a couple weeks ago, before I decided to add the turbo Dakota. Once I added the Turbo to the mix labor increased somewhat substantially, thus our original discussion concerning price needs to be revisited. However, our original decision (prior to adding the Turbo version) was to keep the Dakota at $29.95 for both FS versions. If that is not clear to some, that means you pay once, $29.95, and receive both FS9 and FSX versions for that money. Same as with the Archer III. With the inclusion of the Turbo Dakota maybe the price might increase a bit (a few $), then again it might not! That remains to be seen.As to the A36 and Baron, we're hoping to address them after we get the Dakota and Archer out. While some might not be happy about us not producing dedicated FSX model versions of these aircraft, our goal is to try to cater to both users who are exclusively FS9 or FSX along with those who are using both FS9 and FSX, while providing excellent value to all. :)Yes, it's a tough nut to crack, but this is the way I felt was the best way to crack it, at least for now.Regards,http://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...R_FORUM_LOU.jpg

No magic, no secrets, just some extra work. Will we be working for free? I don't think so!We're just looking to maximize value and sales across both platforms. Our solution may not be ideal for some, but we're hoping that the majority will like it.Regards,http://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...R_FORUM_LOU.jpg

"However I think the Dakota will come as one price for 2aircraft: FSX + FS9."Lou, are you saying you've found a way to provide "two for the price of one" packages that are truly FS9 and FSX products?Does this apply to updating your current FS9 fleet as well?If so, let me be the first to congratulate you because you will have accomplished a great feat:-)

Couldn't be fairer, and I for one am delighted! Thanks,DJ

heh heh, by the way, did anyone notice that Eaglesoft just released it's FS9 Piper Twin Comanche?? :-lol :-lol :-lol :-lol
