Fs9 Vs Fsx

This is an interesting read. My question for the FS X users: what are your hardware specs? I have a Core2 Duo E4300 running 2.7 Ghz coupled with an ATI Radeon 4850 and 2 gigs of RAM. Seeing as how some of you whom I have flown with have made the jump makes me a little more interested to investigate what it would take to make the change.
I'm on a Core 2 Duo T7300 2 GHz (yes, it's a laptop), with a GeForce 8600M GT and 4 GB RAM. Obviously I can't turn all the sliders up to max, but it still looks nicer than FS9 (for me at least), and it runs pretty smooth.

I've got 32 bit Vista Home Premium + SP1, an AMD 6000+ at 3.0 GHz, 4G RAM, and a NVidia 8800 GTX. It's a couple of years old now but it has always done a nice job of FSX. I've always been impressed with the frame rates, and I'm very happy with it.

For the race I'll be doing standard FS9 WX. I Could do AS but here is my system.ASUS k7s5a v1.1 w/ 1.8 AMD w/1 gig. Mon1 = 64k NVidea AGP on 17", Mon2=256mb nvidea on 17" ( The vid card is crap ), Mon3 is on a 32MB S3! on a 15".FSX just doesn't work. If I spend another dime on this system I'd rather rather buy 110/100 avgas for another real flight.

I don't remember all of the details of getting the P51H moved over but there is a brief discussion here in the ** forums. It was not too hard to do. There are some anomolies with the prop animation and you cannot turn on bloom in FSX but otherwise it is just fine. I am using RealityXP gps and Flightline T gauges which makes my panel.cfg dependent having those payware gauges installed.http://a2asimulations.com/forum/viewtopic....ilit=FSX#p52068The Avanti was much more of a challenge. Speed sent me instruction on how to modify the panel.cfg to use some of the FSX gauges from the CRJ. I was able to to get the 3d panel somewhat working (the autopilot controls do not work in the 3d panel) but I never got the 2d panel to work at all. Finally, I just copied over the entire CRJ 2d panel and am using that in place of the FSD panel and it works just fine. In fact I like it better than the FSD panel. The one problem I have not been able to resolve is getting the external lighting working. I have landing lights but no nav, beacon, or strobes. Avanti panel screenshots below:
Jeff, can you post a screenshot of yoru P51H for both your 2D and VC? I am curious what your flightline guages look like in the P51. Must be interesting. Thanks,

I upgraded to a quad core 2.6 - 2gig ram - will have 4 gigs by race time.I also use XP and Vista, have both FS9/FSX and FSX works nice on my system.NV9500 512meg videoI guess autogen an such visual features need to be totally nil for this race (I am going to practice with al settings to 1/2 for now); I dont know what the rules are pertaining to this I am sure I will find out elsewhere.I will be using FS9 for the race and practice, and try to do some practice runs on FSX. I tried FSX a few times (am reinstaling Vista at the moment), and am finding it difficult to fly; I think it could be more realistic; I think the default models may not be so great, and I havnt tried any freeware models yet.As far as mapping goes, it is probly 10 times better and more real than FS9.Thats it from here - BTW, I am Windryder from before - I re-registered haha !

It's probably a good idea to move the autogen slider all the way to the left. It's only eye candy, useless in the race, and can actually give you a lot of trouble if you've got a lot of trees at the end of the approach runway obstructing the glide slope. This happened to me several times, and the solution is quite simple. There's no rule specification regarding autogen. If you're unsure of the rule specs in any situation just remeber that the Duenna is king. If it doesn't register on the Duenna then I don't see how anybody is going to know about it. This is worth keeping in mind when adding an HSI or something to a panel which doesn't have any other nav instruments, or when enabling autorudder in the Realism Settings.

Mike is right. Note that you are able to modify the aircraft panel--presumably to add plenty of all-weather IFR instruments that would be in place for any "real" round-the-world event. Use of the "autorudder" is intentionally left optional. You might also use "automixture". And you can set the torque/p-factor ratings minimal. (The Sim-Outhouse guys are fond of disparaging those who don't fly "all sliders right" on the realism scalars. Wimps!)However, we surely don't want to be in a position of using the Duenna as the ultimate arbiter. There are parts of the race which must rely on "pilot's honor". The Duenna is a wonderful little program that makes things much much better. But it is not perfect--it cannot detect everything or govern the entire race. This is OUR race and it is much more fun if all of us agree to bide by the rules we accept.IMHO.Best,Mike

Yes indeed, Mike. You'll have more fun if you know it's a fair race, and that we've all got the same chance of winning. My comment was posted without considering those deeper implications.

For the people with FSX, i have a question. How did you get the ** p51H... working in FSX?
I "just" installed it. Didn't do have to really do anything else. The only alteration I made was to the radio panel R&R-ing with the Mooney_Bravo's HSI / ADF / NAV-GPS switch. I have also tried just copying over the files and that works too, but installing it gives you the super-cool Century of Flight splash screen. :(It has a few quirks, like sitting on the ground when looking thru the prop into clouds, that part of the prop disappears. And I think rain and the VC don't mix well... instant simulated IFR i.e. you can't see thru the canopy... but that happened only once during last year's RTWR.The default P-51 in FSX (Acceleration) is great once airborne, but on the ground I find it a handful. On the other hand, the P-51H, in my experience, is a delight in the air and fairly tame on the ground. It's my prop aircraft of choice now.FSX was my first leap back into Flight Simulator since my days using it on an Atari (subLOGIC)... so that is all I have.System this year is a Skulltrail I built: Intel D5400XS | QX9775x2 @ 4GHz | 8GB Mushkin DDR2-800 | ATI 3870x2 | 1 WD 160GB (boot) 4 more in RAID0 on a 3ware 9650SE (living dangerously but load times are snappy). Using WinXP x64 (still) and a 6000btu Samsung window air-conditioning unit pumped right into the case to keep everything cool.Had I built this system for FSX, I probably would have committed seppuku long ago. My main use has been competing in computer chess (decent multi-threaded apps) where it is a veritable monster. But take e.g. FSX the Carrier Landing - IMC mission, I see frame rates roughly 5 to 6fps. And this isn't with everything turned up. Weather, albeit looking fantastic, just absolutely brings the rig (and me) to its knees. Flying the wing into KBFI in the King Air fps were counted by the score, that is until I ran into a little snow squall when landing Seattle... and then it was sub-10. Must be some settings I don't have right (praying). I really hate thinking about upgrading the video card this soon.Hoping to transition from the FSX Lear 45 to the Eaglesoft Cessna Citation X 2.0 (with particular emphasis on "auto-throttle disconnect"). :( And maybe one or two others :( :(
