Actually the OZx guys are rapidly becoming one of the premier resources for free airfields on the entire www.The level of expertise, dedication and innovation they display is nothing short of astonishing. The fact that most of the airfields are sloping in accordance with mostly real world elevations makes their offerings so much better than the average.Cheers and thanks for the HU JayKae.

As disappointing as the closure of ACES is, without the shadow of FS11 looming over developers' shoulders, it really is now a golden age for FSX and I hope that we see many, many developers seize this opportunity to make FSX an enjoyable platform for a decade or more.
Excellent point! Also, what stops someone from "patching" the FSX binaries and adding a few tweaks here and there? Just like what happened with Falcon 4 when its developer pulled the plug.I thinking little things like fixing the snow animation (stop it looking like rain) and maybe even cloud shadows? Who knows what is possible with the attention of some talented "hackers". Of course it's probably not 100% in line with the EULA but its not like someone is pirating the product, they would just release a patch exe to patch the original FSX binaries.

Maxter, that is very kind and I have relayed that compliment to the team. Remember I have nothing to do with the scenery design, I just help facilitating :) :)

I wonder what the MS line would be on things like that. Are they likely to be toatlly anal about it or allow some flexibility?

Hacking the default binaries would not be acceptable. However, there's quite a bit of experimentation taking place now using SimConnect modules to implement some new feature, as well as Shader modifications. That is the proper path to follow to extend the life of FSX... ;)

Jay, sorry to rain on your parade, but please put your signature image on a diet. Our rules call for a 400 x 60 image no larger than 10K in size. Thanks for your cooperation.

Fixed :)

Mods, rap my knuckles if I am overstepping the mark here. Just wanted to update folks on the USA Canada project and talk about compatibility with other addons as well. The Beta is well underway and we have many Washington State and B.C. residents (including real world pilots) on the team. They are there to keep us Aussies honest, LOL! (Although Holger is leading the project and he knows the area like the back of his hand and of course, lives there). I know AVSIM folks like Robert Whitwell are very keen to see their back yard given a makeover ;)Jon Patch is also on the team to ensure continuity between Vancouver+ and other FSAddon products he and Holger have worked on. FTX PNW is a combination of 1m/pixel custom landclass textures much like FTX AU, but with the addition of a lot of photoreal areas for anything above the snowline, downtown Seattle and Portland, and features freeware airports like Spanaway S44 and much more which will be shown soon. We'll also be releasing a number of payware airports in the region. Too early to reveal which ones, but they will be beautifully rendered in 30/60cm photoreal with custom modeling, and blended into FTX.Got UTX/GEX? Cool, because we don't mess with your installed UTX/GEX and the transition from FTX to UTX/GEX is seamless - you will simply cross over into FTX and back again without needing to do any tweaking or switching. In fact since the source data is similar, the UTX/FTX roads should just join up at the boundaries.I hope this puts you in the picture. We're aiming for an April 2009 release but it may slip. God I hope not, hehe!

Cheers,

John Venema

I am honestly impressed by the work that has been done with this. I had the free australia change over for FS2004 from them (Since I am australian) and I was impressed as microsoft never paid enough attention to australia as the country offers some incredible scenery capabilites and after watching this movie, and have bought FSX last week and just got REX I will get this one as well .Since I live 10 minutes drive away from jandakot airport(perth, western australia) I will get their extension for it.And the blue temperature as well.I hope the REX and this one will go well with each other.Well done guys!!!and I never ever thought that there would be someone or a team to create australia the way it is meant to be. ASTONISHING.

hope the REX and this one will go well with each other.
Oh, i think it does :( http://www.flightsimworld.com/forums/index...howtopic=165046
