June 19, 200916 yr I know I should probably ask in the forum for the addon, but despite installing the latest JRE, and following install instructions exactly, when I run carrier.exe, i get a box with error messages referring to java and simconnect. Any clues as to where I am going wrong? cheers,MarkGot the same problem with AICarriers2r2 with a Java error and still no luck under vista 32 Ultimate. Had a fellow on a french forum who had to format C to get it work. Nobody I know had found a answer to our problem yet. I tried to contact Lamont Clark, the author, but he seems a little upset against the community and will not answer mails anymore (as per his website). If anybody out there with a less radical solution than format C would be nice.best regards,Amedee
June 19, 200916 yr Author I installed it in the same partition as FSX, which in my case is F:\Program filesthe Nimitz, I installed in F:\Program files\Microsoft Games and in the F:\Program files\AICarriers\conf.d folderbefore I added the Nimitz in the F:\Program files\Microsoft Games I was getting error messages. http://www.lockonfiles.com

Start up a flight in FSX and in your Add-ons menu you will have a new entry called AI Ships. That is what runs carrier.exe and allows you to configure what ships you use and where they are located.Mike
June 21, 200916 yr So, is there anyway this can be used to replace the default carriers? Eric Szczesniak
June 21, 200916 yr So, is there anyway this can be used to replace the default carriers? The moving Acceleration carriers? Yes.The default FSX boat traffic BGL reffers to the default carriers bythe text in the "title=" entry of the sim.cfg files so 'moving' those"title=" names to a new model will automatically replace the defaultcarriers with the new one(s). This, however, will NOT replace the'static' CV's. When you have moving CV's why bother with the static ones? :)Under 'SimObjects\Boats' go to folder "veh_carrier01_high_detail_sm"In the sim.cfg file comment out this line:title=veh_carrier01_high_detail_smIn the folder "VEH_carrier01" sim.cfg comment out this line:title=VEH_carrier01Those changes effectively remove the default CVN's.Now, in this new "USS_NIMITZ" folder open the sim.cfg file.Add two new entries:[fltsim.24]title=veh_carrier01_high_detail_smmodel=CVN69_12texture=CVN69_2[fltsim.25]title=VEH_carrier01model=CVN69_12texture=CVN69_2Choose the "model" and "Texture" combinations that you preferand substitute those in the above entries. June 24, 200916 yr If you have Java errors (as I did) there is a thread here that solved the issue for me http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=252685 SOH Staff
June 24, 200916 yr Commercial Member Hi Guys, its all good, working fine from within the sim. ( Did not have to do any fiddling around, was just using it wrong!) I must say I very impressed, what a fantastic piece of work. Is there any instructions on using the meatball, can you for instance use this with flight deck 5 ? This is a crap add on I purchased, but the best bit was the landing system it had where it could talk you down. The carrier model was crap though and pretty much everything else. The other thing I wondered was when i land, my engines automatically go full burner again, why is that? cheers,Mark
June 24, 200916 yr I don't know how Flight Deck 5 does it's thing, but if you go to Top Gun Simulations website and register, you can download an FSX mission that is centered around a realistic 6 passes at the carrier. Realistic LSO calls are included. It may be a little less than you're looking for as the goal for a pilot is to never hear the LSO speak. And when the LSO speaks, it usually curt to keep from distracting the pilot too much. If you have FD5, you probably already know how to use the frensel lens system as well, but that is absolutely key. If not, see below (from abacus of all places):Further up this thread is a way to replace default carriers with these new Nimitz/Ike. I imagine you can do the same with FD5 carriers, just modifying the text as appropriate. Eric Szczesniak
June 24, 200916 yr Commercial Member Thanks for that buddy, i have registered. However, I tried the modifications in the thread to get the Nimitz as the moving default carrier, it worked great, but since then, my AiCarriers does not work ( it does not show up in the addons drop down screen) I have uninstalled it and re installed, with no success. i have also un done the mods to the .cfg files I carried out, no luck. When I click on the aicarriers .exe in the folder, nothing happens. When I had it working before, if you clicked on this, you got a screen up with some error messages about java. can anyone think where I have gone wrong and what else I can do to get it working again? I am at a bit of a loss to know how to proceed.....Thx, Mark

June 25, 200916 yr Commercial Member Hi Amedee, thx for the advice. I looked in the file and the line you said to insert was already there, above the ::1 localhost line. I inserted it after anyway as you said. However, this has not helped.I cannot also find the exe.xml file. Where would this normally be found? I have looked in my main FSX folder aand in AICarriers. This is wierd, because I had it installed and working and as i say, I only modified the .cfg files for the moving carriers and now it is kaput....
