I think Mr Koch does an excellent marketing job for his company but I am afraid that some of his assertions about FSX and hardware performance are complete nonsense.Rod.
I think its more on the lines of "setting up the playing field" by any means which 'may' include but are not limited to unfounded claims which people would probably fall for without a solid background in technology. ....but yes, the term "marketing" works very well in that respect too :(Quite frankly.. if someone is really going to develop a shader based DX10 or 11 rendering engine and apply a flight sim to it.. using such rubbish as suggesting FSX has timing issues with newer shader based render engine graphics cards to try and make a performance compare of something that has as of yet to be developed and if it is really developed it has no basis to be compared with FSX (lets compare Crysis to FSX why dont we and try to point out all the flaws) that has be one of the funniest attempts of taking a pot shot at FSX I have ever heard. Clever too.

Clever in the sense that it generates a spot of controversy and therefore free pr? Can't see what else it could be.Irrespective of what anyone says about FSX the fact remains that in 24 months time FSX will be long in the tooth. All those FSNext wishlists are not getting any shorter either. It seems clear to me that FSX is simply not EVER going to run much better (on average) than it already does today, irrespective of what kind of hardware anyone may throw at it, today or in 2015. Windows7, DX11, GTX3xx, SSD's - none of this is going to make any REAL difference. That to me is the bigger point of what Aerosoft are trying to say...

Fascinating interview with Mathjis that all should listen to.I agree that within the next couple years the FSX add-on business is going to get hit hard.
I haven't bought many add-ons as I try to limit my purchases for budgetary reasons. Instead of spending $69.95 towards a new FS this year, I will spend it on add-ons instead.

Ah the days of Microprose's F-15, SpectrumHolobyte's Falcon, others like Flight Unlimited, Lock-On, and other non flying simulators too - Tank Platoon, Silent Hunter or Wolfpack. Not sure why the interest/market in that field just fizzled when about y2k came about. There was a plethora of interest in simulators in the 90s, each pushing the envelope and doing amazing things. I saw yet another commercial simulator the other day on a TV show (ok, not the greatest source), and the graphics were absolutely terrible compared to what we have in a $40 game. Sure, the systems modeling and hardware cockpit replica on a 6 DOF moving platform and the large screens makes it a bit - well a lot) better, but the point is that it's amazing what a few were able to do on a pc at the fraction of the cost. Did everyone grow up and decided that sims are no longer viable? Did everyone flock to new virtual reality games such as Eve online or World of Warcraft?Perhaps it's the development cost, perhaps it's the lack of a market, or both. Perhaps it's that dedicated game companies are no longer are small, and were gobbled up by large multinationals with CEOs and shareholders who $ee more value in first person shooters and monthly subscription income than flying the virtual skies and satisfying a niche market. Developping a new sim takes years, takes expertise and a lot of guts, and financial risk. The FS franchise took decades. Even developing titles for FSX using its SDK take an incredible amount of work and expertise and that's just for new aircraft or scenery. I'm excited about any new sim effort and I'm a bit skeptical about the prospects. There are a few projects like this, one open source, and even X-Plane, while it has its strengths, aren't quite up to par in terms of benefiting from deep development pockets, large team and a lot of history and a slew of add-on products. Without a solid sponsor with a desire to invest long term with no immediate,or perhaps, long term profits, the road ahead is a long one. A tall order indeed, certainly possible but an effort with incredible challenges. Especially in this economy. It's good to hear hope about the future though.

Good to see that Aerosoft is dealing proactively with the current situation re MS FSX. I'm very curious to see how that is going to work out. Coming from anyone else I would be highly sceptical, but Aerosoft has a good track record of delivering on their promises. And they seem to be making money, too.It would be great if other commercial players would reveal a bit of their own strategy to deal with the lack of an MS FS11. Sniping at Mathijs Kok is amusing in the short term, but won't get anything going anywhere.

Well, I'll you what I'm doing. I'm making new and better better products. In fact, we're about to release a new "voice control" program, which represents FS2Crew's unique take on voice control integration. Voice control is the most radical change we've done in 4 years. So the economy is tough, it just means we just have to work harder and build a new and better mouse trap. Adapt.I've also hired some more programmers and artists and we're developing a stand-alone flight simulation type program (lest I be caught with my shorts down should the whole FS market collapse, which could possibly happen in a couple years depending on how things pan out...)Nothing of course on the scale of FSX or X-Plane, but something much, much smaller and it's being aimed at casual instead of hardcore users... so far we've got a plane that sorta flies like a plane in a pretty environment ... :(

Bryan has the correct frame of mind for this thread - the expert developer talent pools, huge terrestrial data sources, extensive code libraries combined with awesome hardware platforms is a recipe for a terrific new Flisght Sim platform. Now all we need is a leader to pull it all together. Obama??
