Aeroheaven/JF Connie release - anyone got it yet?

Featured Replies

Yes, I've already made my acquaintance with some of them! Loads of fun. Okay, one more question about the Connie. I don't know if it the angles of the pictures I've seen or what, but I'm curious if it really captures that distinctive curved back and slender lines accurately... this one looks a little chubby somehow in the shots I've seen so far. Well, one more question: can you fly it without being a full-time flight engineer, too?
Tim, this is the Connie, not the Super Connie, so ya, it's a little 'stubby', but still beautifull. I got it last night but havent had a chance to fly it yet. The Super Connie has the extra 18' of fus and the stretched nose for the radar, tip tanks, rtc, I wish they had included it, it's my all time favorite version.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Just Flight\ConstellationOr you can get to it from the Windows Start Menu, look under 'Just Flight'If you have the Just Flight Duchess, don't confuse the folder with that stuff in, which is 'JustFlight' without the space, the Connie stuff is in a 'Just Flight' folder, i.e with a space in between the words, so you might have two Just Flight folders in your FSX main folder.Al
Thanks...I was trying to find it in the Aircraft folder

Ah, so that was what I was picking up on. Okay, thanks! No doubt I will add it to my collection very soon.

I purchased and downloaded the Connie.- Judging only the aesthetics, I found that the VC, although complex, is far from the quality I expected, the majority of the textures are too cartoonish looking, the main panel and glareshield are too dark and flat without any surface detail except the gauges and some screws and knobs, so are the throttle levers, no weathering at all can be seen in this old bird.-The exterior is well done, also the gear, but I think the characteristic fowler flaps looks not as the real ones.-Some extra packages are announced fror the beggining of september, we may expect them to look better.-

Well Hell's bells, why didn't someone mention it shot flames out of the engine? Sounds even more impressive than windshield wipers! :-) I have seen the clips of real night takeoffs with flames. Quite dramatic. (I am basing this off the promotional video, so if I get it and there are no flames I'm gonna be upset.)

Yeah, you might struggle to get the Connie down on some of those African Airstrips.Al
Lots of flaps and a light touch = world's biggest bush airplane :-)africanconnie.jpgThis looks better big than here in small pictures. I like the interior. Reminds me of Flight1/Coolsky's MD80 vc: functional, easy on frame rates. If they can scuff it up a bit without losing FPS, then that would be great. For me it is the outside that I wished looked a little more worn. But it does have flames. And windshield wipers. Time to get out the Stratocruiser, too. And light up a Chesterfield once we get to cruise altitude!

Well I did say that you can see the cloud of smoke on start up from space, and there aint no smoke without fire. Quite alarming the way there are flames whizzing out of all the engines, but it does look cool. On the subject of smoke and fire, you might take a while to get to lighting that Chesterfield, I flew the thing up to cruise altitude yesterday and we were halfway to the destination before it was up there. it's something of an art to get it up past 22,000 feet. With regard to the cockpit textures, obviously it's something of a matter of personal taste, but I'm quite glad the cockpit textures are clean and new, I only wish they were like that on the Sky Simulations DC-9 instead of being worn-looking, as it seems weird to have a DC-9 in the old company colours, but looking like it has been in service for thirty years in the cockpit. It's a relatively simple matter to repaint textures with a bit of scuffing and wear, so I tend to prefer them being portrayed as in all their shiny new glory, and then have the option to batter them about a bit in Photoshop if I want to; it would be similarly incongruous to have a hangar full of classic Connies in their period liveries which looked like they belonged in a boneyard when you got inside.I do think the cockpit instrument lights could be a little better, but then again, that's something that can also be addressed with some messing around, and I think I'll probably have a crack at repainting those a bit. On the whole though, having messed around with the Connie for a couple of days now, I think this is a great package for the price.Al

I agree with you about not wanting a Connie looking as recently picked up from a boneyard, but even new aircraft as the Cpt Sim B757 and Level D 767 cocpits have some slight worn appearence.- I complaint about the darkness and lack of some surface detail at the main panel, at the extreme that I thought some texture was missing and reinstalled the aircraft; in my case, the glareshield looks like a black flat curved surface over the panel, without any reflects and detail, the same happens with the throttle levers, just flat black.- The only really good textured instruments are at the Sperry Autopilot, and the compass at the panel, I think all gauges should have that appearence and not the flat crispy new of the rest.-

In general, I hardly ever like the way black comes across in flight simulator. In miniatures painting about the hardest colors to get right are white and black, too, and to do so you have to come up with something that is not very close to either. I take your point about this vc, but it is a matter of taste, too. I get all the boogered-upness I need with Captain Sim's 757 so am ready for a change when I fly something else.Even in the exterior shots, the black on the leading edge of the vertical stabilizers looks somehow out-of-scale colorwise to me, like it needs to be toned down so as not to overwhelm the rest of the paint job.

Just been corresponding with the "owner" of a Super Connie I saw at an airshow a few years back. Sadly, she's not flying at the moment, but they're working toward getting her back in the air. Here is the link. If anyone is in the Kansas City area, you can see her right now, I believe.http://www.ahmhangar.com/I am trying to get some more info I'll pass along for Connie fans. Maybe even a few pictures someday soon :-D

Agreed, AL - especially in re the panel lighting. Took a fl;ight in that no mans land at dusk when it's too dark to see the panel clearly but too lights for the lights to come on. Made it very difficult to see until it got darker.Only problem I've had is controlling the altitude with the Attitude controls on the A/P. ONly way I could get level flight was to get there manually and then try to use the A/P to hold it. Somewhat successful. All in all, nicely done A/C.Vic

I totally agree with your observations. Another disappointment for me was the lack of a left wing when looking back from the left seat. All you get is the port navigationlight hanging out there in space :(Also, I noticed that cowel flap positions didn't appear to any effect on CHT's on the onlyflight I made. Paul

Something that I discovered in another post that everyone shoulf be aware of - the product is limited to three (3) installs. After that "an administrative fee may be required". For me that would be about 2 - 3 years at the rate that I build new systems. Regardless, IMHO it's a bad policy and I will do no further business with JF.Vic

Is that Just Flights policy or the developers? I ask because I own several JF published products and have never heard of this before. I think I've reinstalled Cargo Pilot at least a dozen times and Air Hauler is definitely over 3 between Fs9 & FSX.

John - to be honest - I do NOT know. I read this in another post http://forums.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?t=200284and didn't dig into it myself. It very well could be the developer policy and I owe JF an apology. It's in the manual PDF file of the A/c.Vic
