August 23, 200916 yr Bought the Zinertek product, was suitably blown away. Time to retire the Real Environment Pro water textures that have served me well all these years. :( John G.
August 23, 200916 yr I have looked at this new UWA package and it looks pretty good. I use FLight Environment for my water and clouds and would like to continue using it for clouds, but will FE overwrite the UWA textures all the time?Is there a way to make the UWA a texture set within FE so we only have to use one package when installing textures to match weather?I seem to spend longer comparing and changing textures than I do actually flying these days !! lolGo to the Flight Environment folder, then to the Data subfolder. Rename the "water" folder to "xxx water". Or something like that. This will prevent FE from submitting any more water textures, but will not disable the rest of the program. Mike...
August 23, 200916 yr How compatible is UWA with things like FS Genesis, Ultimate Terrain, etc.? Thanks Arne J. Arneson Plover, WI
August 24, 200916 yr Does this addon fix waterclass issues? Does it fix the very noticeable transition between textures in and outside the "texture cross"?IMO, it does. The transition between textures is a lot smoother. The water textures seem to blend together more seamlessly than before. Here are a few screens I took of the San Francisco Bay area. How compatible is UWA with things like FS Genesis, Ultimate Terrain, etc.? ThanksI'm running Ultimate Water Advance with FS Genesis, Ultimate Terrain, and Active Sky without any problems. They all work together beautifully.
August 24, 200916 yr Does anyone know the release date for the FS9 version of REX? It looks like I will either get that or these ones but dont want to spend the money if REX is due out any day? Thanks
August 24, 200916 yr I've just looked at the REX screenshots, where is this sea? I live by the sea (Irish) and have never seen vivid colours like this except on pictures of tropical paradises. Perhaps we should have real seas with flotsam and oil slicks. No I jest. Maybe we should enjoy REX's tropical colours and wish we were there on a golden beach !!Well, let's be honest, there are hardly and sea screenshots up there. Not sure, but do you have the FSX version of REX? I do have it because I have FSX (of course...) and there is a multitude of possible seas, clouds, skies, whatever. Really, too much to name them all. You can have a very dark blue sea, a very light one, a brown one even if you so desire... I wouldn't be too fast with drawing conclusions, because what you see on the screenshots is only a very small selection of many, many possiblities.REX for FSX is amazing. It makes your water and sky realitic like never before, and I'm without a doubt that the same textures will be seen in FS9, with a same program although it will be standalone thing not requiering you to have the FSX version. Or so I was told on the forums. It's good to know that the colours can be altered in REX, so now I will have to look into obtaining it.

I am greatly appreciative of developers still paying attention to the FS9 market so i bought it and flew with it for a couple of days. I am going back to my prior water textures this morning. For me it is just too bright blue for my liking. I prefer an almost black water texture which is what I see every time I look out my window at the Atlantic Ocean :). Not to detract from the product or my gratitude at all, the reflections are beautiful, the colors just too bright for my liking.Thank you, I am still glad to show my support for FS9 developers...-Paul Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
August 27, 200916 yr ...I prefer an almost black water texture which is what I see every time I look out my window at the Atlantic Ocean :). ...Paul, Out of interest, can you tell me what water textures you will be using which give a good dark water effect?Cheers,Geoff
August 27, 200916 yr Paul, Out of interest, can you tell me what water textures you will be using which give a good dark water effect?Cheers,GeoffI actually use a combination of FE reflections and waves with REPro textures and it delivers the darkest water set I have seen in FS...If you have both I can try to let you know which settings I use from both, just need to go digging ;)-Paul Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
August 27, 200916 yr ... I'm finding myself with a hodge podge of textures from different packages now. Water from Zinertek, Samoshin-NaturalWorldTrees, lights and runway textures from FS Elemental, and hopefully sky/cloud textures from REX (I currently use Activesky v6's sky cloud textures for my sky which works out great). ...I have a question about the Samoshin-NaturalWorldTrees; is the enhancement (in FS2004) really worth the rather heavy price tag? I am currently using some freeware tree textures and they are pretty good - certainly way better than default...I actually use a combination of FE reflections and waves with REPro textures and it delivers the darkest water set I have seen in FS...If you have both I can try to let you know which settings I use from both, just need to go digging ;)-PaulYes please, that would be of interest if not too much trouble. I'm currently using the water textures from SilverWings with a reflection set from FE - works rather well but I'm always interested to see what improvements can be made to the sim...Geoff
August 27, 200916 yr Geoff, Feng's 'treegen.zip' here @ the library are the best tree addon, hands down. They are the only trees with the right size. All other's are just too tall! Rune B.

My suggestion would be to give it a shot in your setup and see if it works for you. A good tree add-on makes all the difference when flying low and slow in and out of those small out of the way airports like the Georender series or smaller airports in the Northwest area of the United States and/or Canada/Alaska.Just my .02 on this one. Paul there's more reasons than just this add-on as to why your water textures are too light. It all depends on many factors in FS than just this water add-on. People getting excited about your darkened water setup might be in for a surprise depending on how light or dark their actual environment is in FS9. I use Activesky6's environmental setup within my install of FS9. You have many different options with ActiveSky's textures for a lighter or darker skies that make all the difference in many other areas within FS9. Case in point I opted to try FS Elemental and found my whole FS world lightened up. Not liking the large cloud file size I opted to uninstall that add-on keeping only the halo and runway/taxiway textures. Using Zinertek's add-on with FS Elemental would have had me running back to my previous setup as well for water. With my current setup Zinertek's add-on is perfect, this should hold true for most setups especially if people are using default sky textures. Bottom line is everyone's PC is different so for those looking for darker water need to understand there's a few factors going on here that they need take into consideration. Zinertek also overs a full environmental weather add-on that should complement their water add-on nicely. Either way you take a setup like Feng's (see his pictures in the Screenshot forum) which is already dark you can just imagine what this water add-on will bring. All of us have different setups so it's best in allot of cases to just try something out. I for one hope REX doesn't lighten up FS9 in a way that it could clash with this add-on. This water add-on is the best I've seen for FS water and I most likely will keep my current setup if REX doesn't work out. For the record I'm not too impressed with the screenshots I'm seeing of REX's water.
