ZINERTEK - ULTIMATE WATER ADVANCED is really good.

Featured Replies

I tried this product after looking at many water add-ons over the years. Guys this is the one to get... I thought I'd throw a bug in everyone's ear looking to get FS9's water to look comparable to FSX's effects. You put this add-on together with Feng's setup and it's really hard to tell the two sims apart. I'm very impressed... For my setup I found the 'Realistic' option better than the 'Photo' option. Great job to the team in keeping FS9 up to date... :(

Les, Remind me. What was Feng's setup?

And what about Real Environment Pro? Is that worse than these water textures? I have been looking at this package, by Zinertek, and I was enthralled by the pics. But still, it's money, and I want to know I get something better than I already have. Plus, with REX coming out (evebtually) for FS9, how does the Zinertek package compare to that?

Do a search in the forums for his pics and suggestions... I haven't quit been able to reproduce what he's getting but I'm sure an add-on like this will take his water to another level. Outside of water in screenshots in many cases it's hard to tell FSX screenshot's from FS9's. With this add-on it'll be all but impossible unless the pic is at an angle where reflections are clearly visible in the water.

I like the water textures in this package the best. As far as REX you can't compare something with something that hasn't been released. Either way I'll give REX a try and if the water textures don't match up to these I'll reinstall Zinertek's water and keep everything else about REX. I bought FS Elemental and found the cloud textures file size way too large to have a good experience in FS9 (even reducing them to DXT3 format didn't help). If REX is like that I'll revert to what I have now. I'm finding myself with a hodge podge of textures from different packages now. Water from Zinertek, Samoshin-NaturalWorldTrees, lights and runway textures from FS Elemental, and hopefully sky/cloud textures from REX (I currently use Activesky v6's sky cloud textures for my sky which works out great). Mixing add-ons up a bit actually has it's benefits (I only named a few, the list actually is longer from what I've gathered over the years). I hope REX lives up to the hype just like my hope for Aerosimmer's A320 project. As of today Zinertek has nailed the water effects. I'd happily mix this add-on with REX if REX is lacking in the water department in any way below Zinertek...

Well there are screenshots of the FS9 version already at the REX forums, here: http://realenvironmentxtreme.com/forum/index.php?board=14.0If you look at those screenshots, could you give an indication of some sorts?

Does this addon fix waterclass issues? Does it fix the very noticeable transition between textures in and outside the "texture cross"?

Mike...

Les,I agree the effects in the screenshots look stunning.I have the previous package of 'Ultimate Water FSX' and it's really great.I would like to know if it's a good idea to buy the new one, I mean how significant the improvements in the Advanced version are.Has anyone tried both (the first and the second version)? And one more thing. Seeing the screenshots in the simmarket I realized what elese amazes me in the screens. It was the sky. Have a loot at this picture for instance:http://secure.simmarket.com/images/product...matewater21.jpgSo I wondered what clouds it might be.Then I found out (how could I have missed that?) Zinertek offers also 'Ultimate Weather' and that must be it. So I... bought the addon. :( And even though I still don't know if these pictured clouds come from the addon, I must say it has made a huuuge improvement of my FS9 world. The sky is so cool. The clouds look very real. And that superb rain effect...I am very impressed and must say I'm not waiting for REX anymore. LOL, I didn't suspect I would write it.

Mike, but isn't it an MFS bug? I believe it cannot be fixed, although I may be wrong.

Well, that all sounds very encouraging. I must say though, that REX contains two features I wildly admire: the weather generator + weather radar thingy and the flight planner. I really want those, although I confess I have been wanting the ultimate weather package because of the rain effects.

The pictures are so amazingg that I am wondering whether I would get the same results with my current video card (NVidia GeForce 8600 GT) or whether it would take an upgrade of the video card to get to that level.

So why buy the new if you have the old version ???Read on their page !! update free for the "Ultimate Water X" owners !!!BTW I tested the new version but will stick with the old .. just question of taste :)Same settings for the two pics. The old version (photorealistic)mtrnet.jpgThe new version (photorealistic)34s2uqw.jpgRegards.bye.gifGus.
Mike, but isn't it an MFS bug? I believe it cannot be fixed, although I may be wrong.
The waterclass issues aren't a bug, it's like the default landclass, not very good, but can be improved upon. There are plenty of landclass packages, but I have yet to see a waterclass package. As for the texture cross, that is a limitation, but the transition is less noticeable with some texture addons, than it is with others. The default textures work best for me in that respect. I do not want to take the visibility down to say 30NM to avoid seeing the cross at all. I find that unrealistic in most circumstances.

Gus, you've made my day.I guess I need to visit an eye doctor, lol.

I've just looked at the REX screenshots, where is this sea? I live by the sea (Irish) and have never seen vivid colours like this except on pictures of tropical paradises. Perhaps we should have real seas with flotsam and oil slicks. No I jest. Maybe we should enjoy REX's tropical colours and wish we were there on a golden beach !!

Tend to agree with echofox. The screenshots a "pretty" rather than realistic, just as is FSX to my mind. But I suppose thats what its about really - the more addons available the more we're all able to set up FS the way WE like it. Roll on the addons I say.

I have looked at this new UWA package and it looks pretty good. I use FLight Environment for my water and clouds and would like to continue using it for clouds, but will FE overwrite the UWA textures all the time?Is there a way to make the UWA a texture set within FE so we only have to use one package when installing textures to match weather?I seem to spend longer comparing and changing textures than I do actually flying these days !! lol
