Noob looking for turbo prop add on

Featured Replies

Hello,I'm new to this board, I have been lurking around here for a week now, read a lot of real good information. Finally I decided to register. I am brand new to FSX, I got the Deluxe + Acceleration bundle about 4 weeks ago. I love the sim, and finally by reading the great info on this site I was able to configure the app to my liking regarding performance and looks. I have completed all beginner missions except the soaring (because I'm positively not interested) and working on the intermediate missions.I hope this is the right forum for asking, I love turbo props and unfortunately there isn't any included with the software so I was wondering if anyone can give some recommendation regarding a nice turbo prop add on.Thanks

The King Air 350, and the Cesnna Caravan 208 are both turbo props included in FSX, and which are worth checking out. My all time favourite turbo prop would have to be the Digital Aviation Cheyenne which you can get from a number of FS vendors. But the real cream of the crop right now would have to be PMDGs new Jetstream 4100 which is just outstanding, and a delight to fly!

Well, there are several choices depending on the level of complexity you are looking for.My current top choice, which also happens to be the most recently released, is the PMDG Jetstream 41 (visit the PMDG support forums below for more information). Not exactly a walk-in, get and go type of airplane (in fact, most trainees will burn one or two engines a few times over before getting the startup sequence). You may want to download the documentation from www.precisionmanuals.com to get an idea of what's simulated. This is a very complex simulation however.Another good choice is the single engine turboprop is the Pilatus PC-12 from Flight1 (www.flight1.com). It's older, yet it is a nice, versatile aircraft as modeled, without the complexity the JS41 presents. There are others as well but these two are recommended on my end from personal experience.Cheers,

If you are new to FS I think the Jetstream may be quite a bit to handle. That is full system modeling. My reccomendation would be the Aerosoft Twin Otter DHC-6. Beautifully recreated, great sound set and a bunch of liveries. It still takes some practice to fly it right but a very fun aircraft.

A second on the Twin Otter. Wonderful plane. Another that I like a lot, although it isn't technically a turboprop, is the Real Air Duke.

Lose not thine airspeed, lest the ground rise up and smite thee.

Umm, we have a Turbo Cirrus SR22 and a Columbia 400 Turbo. :(

Nobody mentioned Quest Kodiak and Epic Dynasty. Or Flight1 ATR-72.You will find plenty of well done SEP & MEP for FSX.If You are a new to the game, I would leave PMDG for supper. Start with default C208 or KA350 - but do replace default flight models, they are wack. I cannot remember the site, but somebody will for sure.

I second the Flight1 ATR-72; very nice looking plane and fun to fly.

Ummm those are piston engines :(

Thanks everyone, these are all worthy of consideration, I wish I could afford them all at once. LOLI think I narrowed my choices down to the ATR 72 and PC-12. Yes I realize the King Air 350 and the Caravan are turboprops but I forgot to add that I was looking for something a little heavier. The ATR 72 fits the bill, one sweet looking plane and the add on seems nicely done as well. I have to admit that being a big fan of the C-130 family, I am also considering the Just Flight C-130 Hercules X, if anyone has any feedback on that, I would sure appreciate it.Thanks again, this is a great community here.

A couple more data points. As someone already pointed out the Eaglesoft planes are turbocharged piston recips, not turboprops. The Flight1 ATR-72 is a nice plane indeed, but it is an FS9 model converted to FSX, so the prop disks will disappear if there are clouds in the background, even very far away in the distance. The Hercules X is actually Captain Sim's C-130 sold under license by Just Flight...I would highly recommend you research Captain Sim here before buying anything--their product support has one of the worst reputations around. The PC-12 is a good light single--I have the FS9 version, and understand the model was recompiled for FSX. The Digital Aviation Cheyenne is a good light twin, and the PMDG Jetstream is a good commuter airline turboprop. The Jetstream and the ATR are the only ones in the bunch with a fully operational modern RNAV system. The PC-12 uses an adaptation of the FSX GPS--you can't program a route in it without having to back out and use the FS flight planner. The DA Cheyenne uses an archaic Trimble 2000 GPS that's buggy and difficult to use even when it works.RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO

Oops, my bad...I'll read thoroughly next time. I promise. :(

Regardless of opinions on their support, the Captain Sim C 130 is outstanding, if you are looking for a heavy, this is it.

Sir,If you're a noob I would strongly recommend the PMDG 1900D. It was made for FS2004 but can easily be ported to work with FSX. Also, it's only $20.00, so its an affordable entry level aircraft. http://www.precisionmanuals.com/priv/pages.../fs9/b1900d.htmFSX compatibility http://ops.precisionmanuals.com/wiki/PMDG_Express_FAQReviewhttp://www.avsim.com/pages/0404/b1900d/pmdg_b1900d.html

The F1 PC-12 is one of my favorite native FSX turbopropsFPS are decent, not quite as good as Carenado's largest (the Seneca) but the acft can cruise pretty good at altitude or down low. And the STOL capabilities are very nice.I'd also recommend the RealAir Duke (not a turboprop) or the Cirrus SR22 G3 (again, not a TP)
