October 11, 200916 yr I certainly cannot answer your question. My thoughts are these:FSX is frozen for now. Good news for add-ons for which the developpers have a stable platform to work on. In the long run if the Microsoft FS dissapears from the retailers shops where will the following generations of customers come from to maintain the interest of the sim ?Roger Roger See my specs in my profile
October 11, 200916 yr Is FSX and FS9 dying???? :(Yes. It's a slow process for now. If Aersoft launches a good FS 2012, then MS FS certainly will be dead in 3 years time.I hope that the community will be big enough and continue to purchase add ons from the top developers and avoid piracy. The community will survive longer if we have a constant flow of new add ons that may bring some novelty to the FS experience. The state of the economy doesn't help. I guess there must be a few developers having a hard time and I wouldn't be surprised if some of them will close up after a poor christmas sale.I hope that I'm too pessimistic, but that's how I feel about it. It's sad. If Aersoft build a good FS, maybe I'll look back on FS9 and FSX as I do on Flight Unlimited II.
October 11, 200916 yr From the looks of the multiplayer lobbies, I would say it's just the opposite. The lobbies are getting so busy it's becomming a real pain finding one thats not loaded up on the weekends. It may seem like it's slow here, but I think thats just normal for summertime, at least in the online game I manage it is every year. The other thing may just be saturation, I know that if every developer shut down today, I have enough stuff in FSX to keep me happy for another decade.Botton line is, nope, the sky isn't falling, at least from my observations.
October 11, 200916 yr Is FSX and FS9 dying???? :(As more time passes by, the more issues are resolved and recorded, so there is less need for postings on forums. Doesn't mean the hobby is dead.
October 11, 200916 yr Hello, Is FSX and FS9 dying????Dunno .. on my hard disk ..FS2004 is in healthy :( Do you have a hard disk problem ? :( Regards.Gus.
October 12, 200916 yr I've never been more excited about Flight Simulation than now. With the marvelous addons for planes, scenery, and weather - it is my belief that FSX is finally "maturing". It still has a long way to go. The newer processors, video cards and computer builds are now available to take advantage of what the sim has to offer. I'm personally seeing FSX for the first time with my new rig. I've flown it for years, and with the power I have now, it's like the first time for me. I'm busy exploring all the parts of the world I've not flown in before...this time with confidence that I'll have a great simulation experience. REX, FS Genesis, GEX, Track IR, and Active Sky Advanced, work in harmony and bring new life to the sim. When FSX first came out, these things were only dreamed of. NO.....FS is not dying or slowing down in my opinion; it is getting better and better. Aerosoft will only add to the strong community we have.Stan
October 12, 200916 yr FS9 and FSX are limited only in an individual's interest in flying coupled with new addon's (scenery and aircraft mostly) being developed for folks new 'ways' to explore the FS world.'new blood' will be a challenge as there is not a 'supply' of new FS9 and FSX disks.-- D. Most of the time I haven't got a clue as to what the posters are talking about. I get the impression that to make FSX run nicely you need two things: A very substantial hobby bank account AND a computer tech sitting in the Flight Engineer's seat behind the sim pilot! That might explain why FSX has failed to achieve majority market share after 3 years. (And those requirements rule out any contemplation of FSX for me.) Alex Reid
October 12, 200916 yr I'm sure FS will survive. My FSX with PIC 737 Megascenery & VFR Britain is the best FS I've ever had! I still read the forums 2x a day.Peter Sydney Australia

Alex ReidI have friends who spend many times more money on golf (and I golf, too), hunting, fishing, and other hobbies than I do on FS. Also, there are many who smoke (at $7 per pack now) and do other things that really cost $$$.I just happen to choose this hobby...FSX...and it costs a whole lot less than many other activities that are don't bring a fraction of the enjoyment simulation does.Stan

I used to mess around with 34' sailboats so I'm familiar with your comments re expensive leisure activities!! But a computer "game" to be successful must appeal to a very wide customer base- many of whom can't or won't spend big bucks on it. And then there are those of us who can't tell the difference between an overclock and cuckoo clock!Cheers Alex Reid
October 13, 200916 yr I would say it is anything but dead. Check out the hardware forums. I think AVSIM members are going to bring back the economy on FS rigs alone.
