FS 2004 Traffic sounds

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I am wondering where i could download or buy sounds for the defaul AI Traffic. For Example: When u line up before a plane or two, on the taxiway, in real life you can hear the plane take off and the roar of its engines when sitting in the cocpit or the cabin. In FS 2004 u cant hear anything. I want to download so i could hear sounds of the planes taking off and taxiing etc..Thanx

There is a program called FSHotSFX (google that and you'll find it)... They do not support their product anymore but you can still download the product and they'll take your money and issue you a licence happily enough - just don't ask for support as you'll be ignored! There are a few issues of compatability with other addons but it does add spool-up, takeoff and reverse sounds to all your AI aircraft and it does so quite convincingly...Geoff

The AVSIM sound libraries will make the default idle sounds better, but only FSHotSFX adds the sounds the OP is asking about.Hope this helps,
If you want to hear reverse thrust etc. then yes maybe. But otherwise the sounds available on avsim are in general good enough.Vololiberista

I use FSHotSFX and wouldn't fly without it. Adds a lot of atmosphere to the airports. It does some compatibility issues with Radar Control and Pro Flight Emulator though.

Caution -Before you install IFSHotSFX, be sure you backup any FSUIPC files you have as the installer will install version 3.40 of FSUIPC in FS2004 and that might prove problematic if you have a later version.

The original poster asked "When u line up before a plane or two, on the taxiway, in real life you can hear the plane take off and the roar of its engines when sitting in the cocpit or the cabin. In FS 2004 u cant hear anything. However as has been said above there are certain drawbacks with using it. Another that hasn't been mentioned is that it seems to switch cockpit radio idents on and off when it wants to, taking control away. It also seems to lock FSUIPC settings to suit itself (again taking control away by disabling some carefully configured shortcut settings) and will not store your own preferences, although I gather there are complicated ways of forcing this. I'm afraid that for me, this was not good enough and I stopped using it despite the nice sounds. "I personally think it is unethical to continue selling a product for profit like this yet not provide support and on-going bug fixes."Unfortunately this seems to be somewhat of the rule rather than the exception with a few add-on developers now.

"I personally think it is unethical to continue selling a product for profit like this yet not provide support and on-going bug fixes."True, but I decided to try the demo first before committing to purchasing the product. I was fully aware that is was not being supported by the developer anymore.

and what did you think of the Demo version?Any good, any bad things to report, was all well again after removing the demo or did you back up certain files first. if you did which ones were they as I might try the demo one too.Mant thanks.

The demo allows you to sit at KMDW and listen to the AI aircraft sounds. I think it works within a 10 mile radius of the airport. Anyway, FSHotSfx enters a couple of lines into the aircraft.cfg file of every aircraft that you have including any non-AI aircraft. The lines are harmless, but FSHotSFX needs them to utilize the AI sounds. You must have FsHotSFX running separately from FS9, but I've noticed no frame hits at all. The real big thing that the program does is change the TCASID of FSUIPC (which it needs) to Type+ instead of the usual Flight. That means ATC programs like Radar Contact and Pro Flight Emulator will end up calling AI aircraft by their manufacturer and type (for example: Airbus A320) instead of the airline and flight number (Example: American 562). You own aircraft will be called by the correct callsign, but all AI aircraft will be affected. The default FS9 ATC is not affected by this change. That is the one drawback to FSHotSFX, it negatively affects RC and PFE. But I use a workaround for this issue with my RC4 in that I use RC4 to control my aircraft, but let FS9 call and control the AI aircraft. In other words, RC4 communicates with me and I also hear FS9 communicate with the AI. A weird combination, but it works just fine. It's worth this little hassle to get AI aircraft engine takeoff sounds and reverse thrust sounds. Before you install the demo of FSHotSFX (also known as AI Blast), make a backup of your Aircraft folder so that if you remove the demo, you don't have extra those extra 2 lines in each aircraft.cfg file. But again, those extra couple of lines are harmless even if you don't use FSHotSFX.I don't fly FS9 without using FSHotSFX even if I'm just doing a casual flight from whatever airport. It's great to hear everything from the smallest GA plane up to the C-17 spooling up at airports. Again, no support by the developer, but I've had absolutely no problems. In the Avsim file library, there are some user created sounds that be used with FSHotSFX.Just for interest's sake, the following are the three lines added to the Aero Commander GA AI plane's aircraft.cfg. The lines differ by plane type.[FSHS_AIBLAST]OldName=Aero CommanderNewName=Aero_Commander

Hi Wallysworld. Many thanks for the detailed info, very useful indeed. If it puts this small paragraph in all of the aircraft sections, then surely you could just use the search facility in notepad to get rid of the >[FSHS_AIBLAST]OldName=Aero CommanderNewName=Aero_Commanderand then return to normal? or even just make back up copies of the aircraft folder cfg files. As you can imagine some peoples aircraft folders will be massive with all the add-ons we use, and would take up a lot of space on a HDD.From what I have read, it's a pity that the program makers did not think about giving us the "Option" of de-selecting our Add-On aircraft that would Not be used as AI in the first place. What do you think? Many thanks again.

Personally it seems a great deal of effort, expense and hassle just to hear slightly more realistic sounds from outside the cockpit. As I said there are two or three sounds available on avsim that are good enough. They don't distract me from my cockpit work and anyway when my engines are running they are considerably louder!!!!Vololiberista

On the contrary. I've downloaded the extra sounds available here on Avsim and can truly state that the difference is awesome. Just hearing the different spool up sounds is soooo much better than anything else you can do with the AI sounds. Personally, there are times when I don't want to fly, but rather just have the sim running and see what AI flies in. Here, the sounds really excel.Btw, I've never had any problems with the product so can't comment on the lack of support...
