November 7, 200916 yr HiI have looked around but cannot find anything about updating navdata in fs. Is there anyway to update the standard navdata in FS9?Regards,Rasmus
November 7, 200916 yr Moderator The reason you haven't found what you seek is because there is NO practical way possible to update the sim's navdata. Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
November 7, 200916 yr as bill stated ... and more detail here (same issue in FSX as FS9) -http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=265391-- D. Scobie, feelThere support forum moderator: https://forum.simflight.com/forum/169-feelthere-support-forums/
November 7, 200916 yr Try this, Rasmus:http://www.btinternet.com/~gb.mitch/index.htmlBetter than nothing. :(
November 7, 200916 yr HiThanks for your answers. So what you are saying is that fs9 is useless for navigational training purposes, as procedures and navaids are changed? As i could read in the other subject it is possible to modify this for individual airports. Is there a tool to manually add DME's, VOR's and ILS's then if you know the positions from the local AIP?Regards,Rasmus
November 7, 200916 yr ... fs9 is useless for navigational training purposesno ... navigation is the same, the DATA is different. the fundamentals don't change. i have a 1938 edition of 'american practical navigator'; covering theory, math and examples from the PRE-GPS world. there is nothing about what is explained/taught in the book that isn't applicable to going from A to B in late 2009.-- D. November 8, 200916 yr Try this, Rasmus:http://www.btinternet.com/~gb.mitch/index.htmlBetter than nothing. :(I've used that update before and it worked well.
November 8, 200916 yr I've used that update before and it worked well. What will this update do exactly please. Thanks Steve. Unlike the British Government, I actually Learn from my Mistakes.......... Windows XP Professional SP3, ABIT IC7 MAX3 MotherBoard, Intel P4 3.40GHz HT, 4Gigs RAM, Hercules Digifire Sound Card, Geforce 7800GS 512RAM Graphics Card, FS9.1, REX, ASv6.5, GE pro.FE.
November 8, 200916 yr What will this update do exactly please.ThanksAs far as I can tell, it simply updates fixes. It does not appear to update any navaids. In its FAQ it states:Q Will the GPS SID/STARS work. A No. Although the are not changed they are not current since the default data base was not current. You can however use the DIRECT TO function from waypoint to waypoint. Gerry Howard

I've done it. The only issue is the time it takes, but I used EasyNavs to change a VOR, remove a couple NDBs, and relocate and rename a VORTAC. November 10, 200916 yr You should not update a VOR without checking the map to see if there is an associated waypoint. These are used in order to generate the ATS routes "Victor" or "Jet". The linked to AIRAC update only updates the 5-letter fixes from what I can tell. It also is implemented as a single file for world-wide coverage, which I'm not so sure of the wisdom from a performance standpoint. I also note that that replacement file does not contain any of the route data and I don't know what affect that has on the sim. Also, if you move or delete any VORs, NDBs, or fixes, you should check any airport approach data that might be affected and verify that the approaches haven't been broken. FS also makes a distinction between enroute fixes (pink) and terminal area fixes (blue). All the fixes in that AIRAC file are coded as enroute fixes, so if the fix exists in FS as a terminal fix you will have two fixes created (one pink one blue). No harm experimenting with it.scott s..
November 10, 200916 yr Hi.Thanks for the answers. I will try what you have been saying. The problem is actually just a couple of newly installed DME's in Denmark and Sweden, the procedures has changed a bit, and i'm unable to fly them without these DME's.>>The navigation technique is the samme yes, however, how to fly specific approaches becomes impossible without the actual radio nav equipment at the aerodrome. But it seems there's a solution.Thanks!Regards,Rasmus.
