April 24, 201016 yr In the FS9 days, I used to do AI manually. Download latest plans and repaints from the library, manually add them to my huge traffic bgl using ttools. And once in a while when I got lazy I'd use woai. But I spent so much time adding and editing ai, custom repaints, etc. I spent more time doing that than flying! And one day an uninstaller to a payware aircraft blew away my aircraft folders, deleting over half my ai... and haven't used ai since. I want to use it in FSX, but am worried my frames will suffer
April 24, 201016 yr Thanks for the heads up! This is the problem though, when developers puts an update feature in the GUI of their product, and then doesn't use it. You assume there's no new update because the program tells you you are up to date, so you don't go looking for external updates, and you miss out on their benefits, for a period of time. I wouldn't have known about this unless I saw it in your post. Thanks!!Thanks for the HU, downloading now. April 24, 201016 yr so after my sob story novel... can someone tell me what type of FPS hit you get with UT2 set? 5-10 fps in large areas?
April 25, 201016 yr so after my sob story novel... can someone tell me what type of FPS hit you get with UT2 set? 5-10 fps in large areas? With 100% airline traffic in UT2 (No GA) I get 9-12 frames at JFK (Default), about 15-20 at moderate level of detail with a PMDG 744X, or other complex models. With non complex models I get double that. That's with a E6850 3Ghz 4GB and a 9800GTX. Settings are 2Xlow water, Extremely dense scenery, and Dense Autogen. Now, FSX is pausing about every 45 seconds (with 42 FPS) for 2-3 seconds, I suppose while UT2 updates? If this is the traffic injection some are speaking of, this is a major show-stopper and I'm done with UT2. This truly is the most frustrating thing I've seen. Is there a way to avoid this? I just can't believe others are OK with this?
April 25, 201016 yr strange, I read the patches were supposed to fix that very behavior. Maybe post in their forums to find out what's going on

I run 100% AI everywhere I fly and dont have those pauses anymore since I updated to SP1. Prior to SP1 I was getting a lot of pauses but no more. I also use the following settings in the UT UI which may make a difference.Target FSX frame rate = offMax altitude ground a/c visable = 10,000 ftDistance to spawn ground a/c = 25 nmMax a/c to spawn = 150 a/cThey can probably help you get it sorted out however so that you dont have the pause problems. Thanks for the heads up! April 26, 201016 yr Moderator so after my sob story novel... can someone tell me what type of FPS hit you get with UT2 set? 5-10 fps in large areas? With the rig in my sig and usually flying the LDS 767 into most large hubs, with or without heavy weather, I usually never dip below 23 FPS. However for some reason the default KDFW always gives me a bit more FPS hit. Sometimes on arrival into DFW at peak hours and 100% AI I will hit the "T" key on my keyboard which I assigned to disable the AI, then upon landing I hit the "T" key again an the AI reappear. This way I can get 25 to 30 FPS at DFW when on approach, then when I land the AI reappear like nothing ever happened, best of both worlds, lol. For the most part though on my rig FPS are the same at most airports with or without AI enabled. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
April 27, 201016 yr TrafficX = more traffic, more airports I believe, as well. All random schedules, but does a nice job filling any airport. Bigger frame impact, but only because...100% traffic for trafficX seems like more than double 100% for UT2. UT2 just did a poor job filling my airports. Asiann traffic was low and that is just where I enjoy flying, so for me UT2 just wasn't doing it. However, UT2 does have really nice models, but you probably won't be paying much attention anyways if you're flying a plane. Both can be used in conjunction, too. This seemed to fill airports in the US nicely with decent framerates, however I still prefer TrafficX over UT2.

At 75% airliner with UT2, my airports in America are very busy, for example I was #6 in line for departure from KPHX today around 1:00PM. In the air, my TCAS sure gets busy as well. Shane Gavin
April 27, 201016 yr I dunno. I was checking LAX, JFK... just not as much traffic as I like... I'm a freak about it I guess...But then again, I don't fly in the US too often. I like seeing what the lesser flown areas have to give. TrafficX does a really good job with GA traffic, filling in any small airports with parking spots.
April 27, 201016 yr In my experience, 100% airline traffic with UT2 is just too much. 20+ aircraft on the TCAS display is overboard in my opinion. Shane Gavin
April 28, 201016 yr Moderator In my experience, 100% airline traffic with UT2 is just too much. 20+ aircraft on the TCAS display is overboard in my opinion.Yeah sometimes 100% is too much traffic for me too when I am at large hubs, I hate being number 15 for take off, although that is realistic at some hubs I have flown out of in real life.Someone once mentioned that they wanted to have AI at every gate and the airports to be packed with AI. I dont understand why you would want planes at each gate. Most large hubs I have been to in real life like KDFW, KLAX, KATL, KMIA, KLAS, and KORD, even during peak times didn't have a/c at each gate. Many times when I depart my home airport of KDFW or arrive, when taxing in or out, most of the gates are not full. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
April 28, 201016 yr Maybe that was me? I requested it in the ut2 forums, but I said only at downtimes. Such as at night, when most planes are sitting at their hub waiting for the next days flying. I fly cargo at night mainly, and it is realistic to have an airport packed full of planes that arrived earlier in the day and don't fly out until the morning. It kind of is disappointing to fly into EDDF around midnight and see maybe 2 or 3 if I am lucky, Lufthansa airplanes.
April 28, 201016 yr EDDF, with 50% airline traffic on TrafficX, at 2 AM, was pretty full, which is what I like to see. Drop it down to 25-33% I guess if you want more realistic levels, but TrafficX added a lot! I also some some military planes, which I hear UT2 doesn't have.
