What's Your Best FPS?

Featured Replies

Hey, It's been 2 good long days since I've reached 100 FPS. I'm really glad, I've looked at some tips to see how to maximize the FPS. My highest FPS ever was 200 (Not Average).

WHATS YOUR HIGHEST?

This question really loses a lot of meaning in FSX because high FPS doesn't mean a better simming experience. This is not a first person shooter, combat flight sim or racing game where a higher frame rate = a more responsive gaming experience. The highest I've ever achieved (running DX10; Frames Unlimited; GA aircraft) was about 79-85.However, it was not a smooth, or consistent 79-85 FPS. It would dip as low as 30, shoot back up to 60, then 70, then 50, then 80, etc.The goal for FSX is a smooth and stutter free frame rate. The Frame Rater Limiter Program can help tremendously with this (for DX9 only). Limits the frame rate to whatever you specify (30 is default) and KEEPS IT THERE. This is how I can fly complex addons like PMDG into heavily populated areas like Los Angeles, and it seem as smooth as silk. I'll take that experience over a rapidly fluctuating 100 FPS any day of the week and twice on Sunday :(

I don't even bother with frame rates either. They mean nothing to me. I tune FSX to where I have a minimum amount of lag between the aircraft clock and the system clock. When the lag is at it's minimum the sim is running smooth.

~850fps regarding to Fraps - low settings. But it is useless. FPS depends on vicinity, surrounding AI A/C's, weather, Your plane & altitude.... It is never the same.FSX is all about stutters - not FPSI try to keep above 30 (pmdg 747, big hubs, fog, rain, cats&dogs...), have locked to 60 (since my displays cannot handle more) - this is enough for me. I did not care about frames. Back in the days I used to have more fluent immersion in 25-30fps than in 50-60, so I stopped using fraps and Ctrl+Z.

Couldn't care less, if it's above 30fps. Which it isn't. :(

My highest is 35 fps in beautiful Orbx airports. My lowest is 30 in NYC in rain, at night, with cars moving and while landing the L-39 at JFK.What a site to behold.

I concur with some others. I used to display the frame rate counter in FS9 all the time. I've just learned to shut it off in FSX, as it simply does not mean as much.Stop watching the counter, and enjoy the smoothness of FSX.

I've seen up to 200 using photoscenery.I've always thought a great add in for fsx would be placebofps counter...It would display 120-150 fps no matter what the condition. Wonder how many would find themselves suddenly happy and satisfied.. :lol

I spent a good 3 months tweaking everything there is to tweak to try and get even 30. Finally said to hell with it and concentrated on limiting the stutters. Don't even have frame rates showing anymore. Like most, I have to move sliders around to suite the scenery/local etc. Nicks' guide was the biggest help of all. :(

I just do it because I want to understand how FSX works. If I started flying again I would probably install little red LEDs in the upper left of my windscreen. And after all that's what hobbies are for. :)jja
