Wow, that's really cool - the 757 is a crazy climber at low TOW. I've been on a couple where there were hardly any pax on board for short flights and it's like a rocket, so much power.

I recently flew with SAS B736 once and SAS B738 twice, got a seat just next to the engines on the 736 but on the 738 I had seat 07A twice, what a wonderful buzzsaw sound on take-off at seat 07A... :(

Flying on Ryanair from Shannon to Gatwick I noticed that sound. The funny thing is, I didn't hear that sound from Edinburgh to Dublin. I was sitting up front from Shannon but in the rear from Edinburgh. I wonder what is making that sound of if it is actually normal?

I think the buzz is from air flow angle of attack and fan blades issue. I used to hear C-141's make that sound too. Your location in the cabin also makes a difference, that sound I heard from just aft of the trailing edge of the wing was very low almost a fast rumble.

I've read that the buzzsaw noise is caused by shockwaves from the supersonic fan tips. This happens around N1 80% with the CFM56-7b engines.I guess that when you have a seat from which it is impossible to look into the engines, you can't hear the shockwaves neither, at least that's what I've noticed myself when I sat just next to the engines, I only heard whining and rumbling sounds. The worst seat you could get would be everything behind the wings since all you can hear back there is the exhaust blowing on the fuselage.

If The procedures I have are correct, normal flap schedule for a visual is go flaps 5 on downwind, 15, gear down prior to base, landing flaps on base, then rollout on 2.5-3 mile final.
That's pretty much straight out of Boeing's Flight Crew Training Manual, so that's the guideline for all 737 operators.

I used to work for Ryanair for 3 and a half years as crew.. hence my love of the 737ng!!The roar from inside the cabin and outside watching them take off... awesome!!This is my first post, so hi... i've had the 737 for fs2004 for years... and still fly everyday!Cheers,Dan

Looks like the NGX is very close. were starting to see some preveiw images. Im Very Excited.

Yeah SWA has a penchant for coming in fast and high, I think it might actually be SOP as part of their cost saving methods. Both approaches on my trip were that way - use of spoilers, flaps out to landing config very quickly etc...
They dont use VNAV right? Wouldn't that be why?

Why would they not use VNAV?

Ryan, I fly on these 2-3 times a year when on Hoils.I think you will like the airline comany name a MUST have livery for your 737NGX :( enjoyryan_air.jpg

SWA used to not have autothrottle and VNAV on their 737s, but some of the NGs do have it now from what I understand. This may come as a shock to some simmers, but usually VNAV is not in use close to the terminal area. Once ATC starts vectoring you around, LVL CHG and HDG SEL are much more convenient than sitting their with your head in the FMC trying to reprogram in a busy approach environment. The presence of the "banana" green arc on the ND basically gives you a "manual VNAV" of sorts anyway - pilots can use this to conduct the entire descent using V/S. You just dial the altitude and make sure you keep the arc on the waypoint you were told to cross at whatever altitude and it'll hit it. You can often get a much smoother descent this way by very slowly rolling the V/S wheel forward instead of the more sudden initiation you get when VNAV PTH captures. It's more comfortable for pax doing it the V/S way.

@Ryan,A good friend of mine is commander on the NG with Ryanair. He also was instructor on the level-d sim.If you want to contact him, please let me know. I already told Robert and Vince when I met them in Germany.
Same here, the 757 is my favorite aircraft to fly on.
I ever did one flight on the 757 from EGLL to EBBR with British Airways, my 2nd flight in my life.I think the 757 hadn't 100 hours of flight, it was new. Until today it's the best I ever had, still thinking of that short flight, too pitty.

It would be cool if there was an option on the ngx to have no a/t or vnav so people can more realisticly pretend to be a SWA pilot!

The first time I went to the US I was suprised about the old models still flying there. In Europe you could hardly see any 737-200 anymore, but I flew the 727 instead. Beautiful plane with one GA at O'Hare, but because of the noise no-go's at EHAM.What I've heard about SWA is that they have to fly manual to at least 10.000 ft and then maybe A/P. This to keep in shape with the aircraft and know how to respond when things turn out otherwise then normal. On desent using Flt Chg for the same reason. Here in Holland it's all A/P and VNAV after 400 ft (untill ATC comes in the picture...) ;-(
