PMDG A320?

Featured Replies

As many flightsimmers know there is a lack of high quality study sims for airbus aircraft. The closest we have is the poor wilco a320 and a buggy Airsimmer Basic.I own the wilco and havent flowen it for ages. The graphics of it are poor in FSX and the Fly-By-Wire is not realistic.I have been following the Airsimmer Project with alot of intrest over the past 12 months but it seems to be falling apart, with only the buggy basic released and the Bug-O-Meter still stuck at 62%. The forums are childish with arguments over FS9 and FSX and to be honest i have given up hope of having a A320 study sim from them for FSX.PMDG announced a few years ago that they would make an A320 but that seems to have fallen through, my guess is because the Airsimmer showed so much promise.IF The Airsimmer falls through we will once again have no promise of a high quality airbus. This means that PMDG should create one like they said they were a few years ago. When the T7 is released we will know what Airsimmer is doing and then PMDG could make a decision on wheather to proceed with their Airbus. I know that ryan has stated that he would still like PMDG to create an Airbus.

The above post is very poorly worded so I will define what I meant. What I am saying in the above post is that if the Airsimmer project fails then after the 777 PMDG should make an A320

Aerosofts airbus is only a basic system simulation and will not include advanced systems. It is very close to Airsimmers Basic Edition

AirSimmer Advanced will be promising, trust me.

It has been promising for years, it is what gets delivered that matters, and based on what was delivered for the "basic", I do not expect to be impressed.

I would like to add my interest in this too. I was excited when you anounced it - Oct 2006, here - but all has went quiet. It would be great to know if it is on the cards, or has been put on the back-burner. Either way, we have lots to look forward to.

I am not sure that developing an Airbus will be the best thing to do, considering their new partnership with BoeingPersonally, I would much prefer a PMDG A320 than a 777Benjamin

It is hardly a "new" relationship and one which I don't quite seeing restricting PMDG to one manufacturer, or we wouldn't have the Jetstream.I am quite sure that any company fitting the right criteria and have the right $$$ can license the data needed of Boeing.

BAe is a plane maker, Airbus is THE competitor of Boeing.Benjamin

How do you know? Nobody knows. What they just released was pretty bad. I'll be quite surprised if anything coming from AirSimmer will be promising.

I really doubt that PMDG will ever do a Bus. I have read posts from PMDG about some kind of strategic partnership with Boeing and i think this holds them off from modelling the competition.Gerrit

You have to remember, a Airbus is alot harder to develop than a Boeing. Fly by wire etc. They realsed a buggy Basic because of the Finical Crisis, you imagine developing a plane for 3/4years on barley anything O.O Not that easy, is it? They needed to make money some how.

Anyone who thinks we can't model Airbus systems has never met Vangelis Vaos... The same exact type of joystick-intercept programming needed for FBW is already there in our NG (CWS) and MD-11 (LSAS).I don't have anything to tell you on whether we're still going to do a 320 or not - it's not outright canceled, I know that much. If we do it it'll come much later though. No one is prohibiting us from making any type of aircraft by the way, just to shoot that rumor down. I'd personally love to see us do it, but other business considerations have to come first.

The excuse that AirSimmer released their so-called "Basic Edition" A320 due to the GFC is simply farcial. I don't believe it for a second and I'm certainly not alone in believing that. Their management team has consistently refused to offer an upgrade path for customers waiting for the Advanced Edition who might buy the Basic Edition to help support and raise revenue for AirSimmer. They offer the Basic Edition for the price of $39.95 and the Advanced edition for $89.95. Now consider this hypothetical...John Citizen really wants the Advanced Edition because he's a hardcore simmer who enjoys products with all of the systems fully simulated to the same level as the PMDG 747, MD-11 and the Level-D 767. Because AirSimmer say they are in a bit of trouble financially, he seriously considers buying the Basic Edition to show his support for AirSimmer and to help them continue developing the Advanced Edition. BUT... he refuses to buy the Basic Edition because he really wants the Advanced Edition but doesn't want to pay more for it than he should have to.If Mr Citizen had purchased the Basic Edition for $39.95 and then the Advanced Edition for $89.95 he will have paid $129.90 in total, going by the current pricing policy. That is much more expensive than waiting for the Advanced Edition and not purchasing the Basic Edition. By waiting for the Advanced Edition, he has saved himself nearly $40!I'd recommend you checked a poll on the AirSimmer support forum where a whopping 90% of respondents (almost 200 potential customers) have indicated they will not buy the Basic Edition because they are waiting for the Advanced Edition. I mere 21 respondents indicated they would buy the Basic Edition now. This is the link to the poll: http://www.airsimmer.com/support/index.php?showtopic=5023If AirSimmer offered an upgrade path where purchasers of the Basic Edition could upgrade to buy the Advanced Edition for the difference in cost between the versions (which is $50) it would mean that buyers would then have paid only $89.95 for the Advanced Edition instead of almost $130. Only a lunatic would waste $50 on buying both versions with the current pricing policy. If they offered an upgrade option, they could potentially have at least 200 more customers, boosting their income by at least $8,000!So... getting back to my point about the GFC forcing AirSimmer to release a buggy, sub-standard product. They aren't selling anywhere near as many A320 Basic Edition products as they could if they offered an upgrade option. If they really were THAT desperate for revenue, they'd be doing anything they could to get people to buy their product. The fact that they are locking themselves out of more than 200 customers is, I believe, proof that their claims of financial problems due to the Global Financial Crisis are false.Edit: Oh yeah, don't forget all of the customers who have been rushing for a refund due to the poor quality of the product. One could argue that AirSimmer is losing cash as fast as they receive it!
