Matt, I agree with you they are silly to relase a Basic with no Advanced.

I personally am heavily leaned towards Boeing airplanes. Being that I have used them in the sim for such a long time. However, after getting the opportunity to sit at the pointy end of A320 series aircraft (jumpseat), after having flown a real level-D Airbus sim many times and after really getting myself familiar with the Bus, I am a little sad right now.A few years back we had three developers announcing Airbus editions to be released in the not-so-distant future (maybe). Note that I am not accusing any of them of anything rather than just stating the current situation.Airliner XP -> This project showed the most promise in my opinion. The enthusiasm of the AXP team was overwhelming. I was 100% sure that they would release eventually. It looked so good and the concepts looked very solid (I am an engineer by profession, so I tend to pay attention to that side of things too). I was sure that AXP was going to wipe the table with their Airbus, and the VERY long wait of a decent Airbus was soon to be over. Wrong. CANCELLEDAirsimmer -> Not taking those pretty lame "imminent release" catch frases into account, that started already in 2007 or 2008 (not sure which), I thought that maybe this group could deliver. After getting some inside info from their ET (not a member myself), it seems like the situation right now is really bad. They have released a Basic Edition that's a simulation of a simulation of an Airbus. In other words, useless garbage for anyone who really has awaited the Airbus to arrive in sim world. But now the word on the street is that they are having big problems with their Advanced Edition. Some think that the project will be cancelled from this point on. I sure hope it won't, but the signs are bad. Anyway, so far AS and their superb "mathematics of the sky" advanced edition is nothing but vapourware. Still no credible Airbus for FS.PMDG -> Being that I have put very little emphasis on the PMDG Airbus project myself, since their other projects have been so succesful and very desired, I feel the Airbus by them has always been somehow only in the shadows, as some kind of faint possibility. With those two above mentioned projects ongoing, it was only sharp business sense to leave this one to the background. However, with the situation being what it is right now, I really think (and this is just my personal opinion) now would be the time to perhaps pick this project up and just do it in "brute force" mode :). I know PMDG has a lot on their plate right now. And the community is naturally happy about it :). Quality stuff coming up in a really acceptable time-frame. But if ever there was a time to review making the Airbus, it would be now.My expectations towards the AS project are nil as of now. So it's up to any "new" Airbus project to finally deliver. Whoever that might be... If AS happens to come up with the Advanced Edition, I am not expecting a lot of it. So far flying the Basic has been a painful experience. Their design concepts don't do it for me personally, so in any case I think I will skip the outcome. My hopes are for PMDG to take the Airbus and finish it in PMDG style. You can hope, can't you? :)Tero

I am not a fan of the Airbus. Why exactly , I don't know. I know if PMDG made it my feelings would definitely change. The quality of PMDG is unmatched IMHO. AS has been nothing but hype followed by empty promises. They quickly removed the "No Compromise" slogan from their website ( I haven't seen it in a while ). I don't pretend to know how difficult it is to make a quality product but the hype hurt them as badly as the "basic" edition did. Hopefully they get it together because quality add ons are always a good thing in this community (FS)

Pretty much if ive flowen on it or an Australian/New Zealand airline (im from NZ and moved to OZ) flys it ill buy it. E.g Jetstar A320 & A330. Qantas Dash 8, A380 etc. BTW Tero, hows the Level D 757 looking?

hows the Level D 757 looking?Hum..........only a guess, but probably not anytime soon. Complicated sims are taking almost as long as the real thing....that's GOOD.

With the 787 coming along this plane will put the 777 to shame when all is said and done it will be the main hauler for the majors here in US. Vincent

The 757 and 767 just aren't different enough for me to accept that any complication about the aircraft explains the delay. I think a more likely factor is changes in their lives which prohibits stready and regular work on that project. Shame, because the pretenders are getting sales.

I am an avid globetrotter with my trusty Lufthansa B777F, Polar Air Cargo B744F, and Atlas Air B748F.

The excuse that AirSimmer released their so-called "Basic Edition" A320 due to the GFC is simply farcial. I don't believe it for a second and I'm certainly not alone in believing that. Their management team has consistently refused to offer an upgrade path for customers waiting for the Advanced Edition who might buy the Basic Edition to help support and raise revenue for AirSimmer. They offer the Basic Edition for the price of $39.95 and the Advanced edition for $89.95. Now consider this hypothetical...John Citizen really wants the Advanced Edition because he's a hardcore simmer who enjoys products with all of the systems fully simulated to the same level as the PMDG 747, MD-11 and the Level-D 767. Because AirSimmer say they are in a bit of trouble financially, he seriously considers buying the Basic Edition to show his support for AirSimmer and to help them continue developing the Advanced Edition. BUT... he refuses to buy the Basic Edition because he really wants the Advanced Edition but doesn't want to pay more for it than he should have to.If Mr Citizen had purchased the Basic Edition for $39.95 and then the Advanced Edition for $89.95 he will have paid $129.90 in total, going by the current pricing policy. That is much more expensive than waiting for the Advanced Edition and not purchasing the Basic Edition. By waiting for the Advanced Edition, he has saved himself nearly $40!I'd recommend you checked a poll on the AirSimmer support forum where a whopping 90% of respondents (almost 200 potential customers) have indicated they will not buy the Basic Edition because they are waiting for the Advanced Edition. I mere 21 respondents indicated they would buy the Basic Edition now. This is the link to the poll: http://www.airsimmer.com/support/index.php?showtopic=5023If AirSimmer offered an upgrade path where purchasers of the Basic Edition could upgrade to buy the Advanced Edition for the difference in cost between the versions (which is $50) it would mean that buyers would then have paid only $89.95 for the Advanced Edition instead of almost $130. Only a lunatic would waste $50 on buying both versions with the current pricing policy. If they offered an upgrade option, they could potentially have at least 200 more customers, boosting their income by at least $8,000!So... getting back to my point about the GFC forcing AirSimmer to release a buggy, sub-standard product. They aren't selling anywhere near as many A320 Basic Edition products as they could if they offered an upgrade option. If they really were THAT desperate for revenue, they'd be doing anything they could to get people to buy their product. The fact that they are locking themselves out of more than 200 customers is, I believe, proof that their claims of financial problems due to the Global Financial Crisis are false.Edit: Oh yeah, don't forget all of the customers who have been rushing for a refund due to the poor quality of the product. One could argue that AirSimmer is losing cash as fast as they receive it!
Hope you don't mind, i copy and linked your post on the Airsimmer ET forum.Benjamin
Why, Benjamin?
I found your post to be a very good analyse, And some of the theories you have, might be more than trueI would like to tell you a lot about Airsimmer ET experience but sadly I can't because of NDABenjamin

So many discouraging things about AS being reported here. I honestly have to agree with everything that was posted above. I would give serious consideration to purchasing the A320 Basic and helping support AS, except that 1) the upgrade policy to the Advanced Edition is ridiculous, and 2) I run FSX only. Until these things change, no dice. I really do hope that AS manages to get their act together and deliver the A320 Advanced (for FSX) as promised. But, if not...I really do hope that PMDG will do the full Airbus series, if future business conditions warrant it. It sounds like many of the things they are doing for the 737 NGX are directly transferable to the 777; I would think that going from a narrow-body Airbus (A320 series) would be similarly transferable with a wide-body Airbus (A330/A340 series...heck even an A380). Perhaps they can leverage many of the same techniques they are perfecting now with the Boeings, even though the flight decks and controls are vastly different.I tell you this much, though...with all the great stuff coming down the pipe from PMDG alone this year, I may have to go find a second job just to support my PMDG habit. :(

I would also like to see a Pmdg A320.The 777 is nice, but systems and operations are almost identical to the 747.Guy
