system locking up

Featured Replies

Tried it last night and had a couple of total lockups with pc but did'nt worry to much, but tried it again today and same thing. PC froze after a bout an hour flying. This never happens usually. The only thing thats different is that I'm using the new pmdg 747-8 X instead of the pmdg 747-400 X. Have reloaded a flight with the 744 to try if it's ok but as I said it's usually rock solid, and with this new aircraft it's locked up 4 times now requiring a hard reset. Must be a bug somewhere I guess. Anyone else noticed any problems so far?MarkSchillingSignature2.png

Mark, are you running a 32b OS? You may have to investigate OOM errors. There is no known bug in the 3D model that would cause a system lockup.

Hey Dan,No I'm using win7 64bit. Had no OOM issues until I installed this yesterday and have done some 10+ hours flights in the 744X and no probs. I just tried changing model back to 744 in config changer and Just locked up again after an hour so uninstalled the 748 completely and am in the process of trying it again to see how that goes. As I said, it's been completely stable on win7 64 bit for me up till now, and now it's locking the whole system every hour or so. Actually at this stage I hope it's this model thats doin it, otherwise I can't understand whats suddenly caused this problem!

Just to give a heads up. After having completely uninstalling the 748, have been flying now for over 2 hours with the 744 again and seems fine again, so I think it's safe to assume that the problem is in some way connected to the 748 model.Hopefully it will be resolved.

Thanks pal that's very good of you :( Have just finished that flight on the 744 no problems and did another and fine again so definately an issue with the 748. The 744 is such an epic aircraft that I'm quite happy flying that anyway until the issues are resolved with the 748 :( Seeing that your sig says PMDG sound engineer I gotta let you know how amazing the sounds are on both craft. Amazing job! :( Thanks again for all your help Armen. Nice one B)

Funny, I'm the opposite. Had lock ups before installing the dash 800, now, it's great just to finish a flight. I absolutely love the -800 add on. Behaves faultlessly in VNAV, which I love. I can now follow QF SOP's in descent. Fletch (FLCH) performs well too! Turns are smooth as silk. Now it will be a hard decision as to what to get out of the hanger the JS41 or the 800!Just curious, are you running any add ons? I use REX, but didn't let it run with the -800 and it didn't lock up. So, now I'll do a short flight with REX running and see if it locks up. I use WIN7 64 bit with a Nvidia 880GTS (G92). Martin Buzzell

The systems should'nt perform any different as was just a model upgrade. Exact same 747 systems underneath. Also REX is only a texture upgrade so as long as vid mem and system ram are up to spec should'nt have any impact. My system is more than capable of runnung high res tex packs. As soon as I removed the 747-8 the problem went away. Thanks for the feedback Martin :)

I agree, but there are some strange qwerks in FSX. I've found with experience textures can affect FSX, even in what order they're loaded. Especially with a Nvidia Graphics Card. Sometimes when I use 4X speed, my screen locks when using the PMDG 747. With the -800 add on it doesn't.Yes it's the same 747 underneath, but with different external textures. So I come back to my texture theory :) Not that it's helping with your issue.

Mark-We are monitoring this- but as of now you are the only report we have had of this problem. The texture laod of the 747-8 is certainly higher, but the draw call load is lower... Is there any reason why this should result in an overall higher net load on a machine of pretty good capabilities?not really...We'll keep our ear to the ground, however...

I am also having the exact same problem. The -400 works flawlessly, and the -800 anywhere from 10-45 minutes into a flight causes a complete system lockup. Also, running Windows 7 64. Thanks!Buddy Morgan

I don't know if it's directly related, but I would like to report that on my one and only 748 long-haul flight to date, from FlyTampa's KBOS to FSDT's KLAS, I experienced my first ever "out of GPU memory" and a subsequent CTD. The flight itself seemed fine, but landing in the late evening and taxing off the arrival runway, I got this CTD. This was not the old system OOM error of the 32-bit days, but the first time I have this GPU memeory error.I do run all the cutting-edge scenery add-ons and will admit that I hadn't flown the 744 in quite some time, but I haven't seen this GPU memory CTD error while using almost exclusively the MD-11 and JS41 for the past six months or so. Since switching back to WinXP_x64 late last year, no CTD, black or white screen, or missing textures were noted. Systems specs below...
