Pacific Northwest Demo Out now

Had a quick flight around in the demo earlier, went from WN47 and then went in a westerly direction, over a power station etc then went in a Northerly direction to S16. I loved it, my PC is not top spec but it was still a nice experience so when I get some funds and hopefully some extra birthday cash in a couple of weeks this is definitely on my list along with the two addon airports as well. Its nice to see that OzX is doing some great freeware airports for the area as well. I wonder if the demo will bring a positive effect as it will help bring more sales and also because that specific area in the demo is freeware, albeit limited to Spring textures, it might bring alot of freeware addons to that specific area, for example enhanced airfields that neither FTX or Oxz are covering. Might be good in that sense as well. Anyway I raise a glass of wine to John and the FTX Team and thank you for your great work and hope to put some of my money in your coffers soon which then helps you create even more exciting things.Craig

Hi John,I think you need Microsoft .NET 3.5 installed and it must be installed without Vista UAC enabled, At least this was the requirement for the Oz stuff they did.Steve
Thanks Steve, I dl'd and installed .NET 3.5 and it fixed the issue.Regards,John
Seattle and KSEA are _not_ in the demo area. There is an included KMZ file in the demo ZIP file, which we recommend you load into Google Earth to see the extents of the demo area (the Olympic Peninsula outlined with a red boundary). We also recommend reading the User Guide :(
haha thats a good one seeing as i did read it and seattle shows up in the red area! why do you think i am asking here? ;) your guide is kinda lousy, at least for the demo. hopefully the full version guide is better. looks good from the area i saw and will probably buy it as long as the guide isnt lacking like the demo. you should modify the guide to show a text list of all airports that you can choose from in the demo or at the very least add some saved flights. when i zoomed in on that map it clearly shows seattle in that red area.

You could go here: http://www.fullterrain.com/product_nablue.html and download the full version guide to see if it lives up to your standards :( Oh what the heck, here is the download link for it: http://myftx.com/FTX_AU_BLUE/FTX_NA_BLUE_PNW_User_Guide.zip :(

Gerhard

Hmmm.... "Free Demo", something that does not come along often in our hobby. Having taken a brief flight over the area, I'd say this demo is better than many payware scenery add-ons. The guide is titled:"FTX NA BLUE Pacific Northwest DemoOlympic Peninsula in Spring"Since when has Seattle moved to the Olympic Peninsula? I haven't seen it there before (which most natives of the Olympic Peninsula might say is a good thing :) ). So the map in the demo user guide isn't perfect. And/or you are ready to skip the entire package because the full guide may not be up to your liking? And one wonders why vendors rarely bring demos to the community....-John

enough replies from the peanut gallery. i thought the mods are here to prevent this type of behavior? all i said is that seattle clearly shows up in the red area in the guide and it is misleading. i know NOTHING about that area and dont even know what the olympic peninsula is or where it is. i want to see seattle before i buy. i do NOT need 10000 other trolls running in here coming down on me. if you have nothing productive or helpful to say then move along. thanks!

what about no trolls did you not understand? the orbx guy accuses me of not reading the guide first off when his OWN instructions clearly show seattle in the red area included with the demo. why is everyone jumping on me? mods please help.

No one made any comments that insulted you as a person. If you can't differentiate between comments directed at your post and comments directed at you, and the only response you can deliver is referring to us as "trolls" or the "peanut gallery", I think that says quite a bit. I think is is helpful for members here to call comments such as yours to task. You obviously want the demo to deliver something for you which it doesn't. Sorry, tough break.-John

Which Orbx guy ? I think you need some rest...Edit oops, I guess I need some rest as well. The "Orbx guy" just gave you information. He did not accuse you of anything !

haha the 9th post down. and i am the one who needs rest?? look, i am just here for help. the map they give clearly shows Seattle in the demo which it is not. there is no list of starting airports so you have to zoom the pdf to 500% to read any of the airports in there, google them to see what city they are in to input them into fsx. all i am saying is that it would be easier for the potential customer to be given a list of where to start and to make the map more accurate as to what's included. i swear this forum goes BERSERK when ANYONE says a semi crass word to orbx. now i know why i give avsim a wide berth. you all can carry on without me.oh i should also add to ziffel, thanks mate for actually offering to help me. id love to see the pics of seattle.

A free, unlimited-time demo of an outstanding product, and some people can only complain.John

And calling us the "peanut gallery" and trolls isn't crass? Don't let the door slam behind you on the way out. Talk%20to%20the%20Hand.gif

Howdy,in case your "FTX PNW Coverage and Features Map - DEMO version.kmz" file looks somehow different here are two screenshots showing the extent of the demo coverage area. As you can see, Seattle is not part of the demo area (the Olympics are to the west of Seattle). We chose the Olympic Peninsula because it is surrounded by water on three sides, which made subsetting the original PNW files a lot easier and also makes for an obvious boundary between FTX PNW and the surrounding default (or UTX/GEX/etc.) landscape. It's also a suitable cross section of the various types of landscapes we cover, from wilderness to urban. While the 43 included airports are shown in the GE kmz file here's a list of them for anyone interested:00WA Howell0S9 Jefferson Co Intl11S Sekiu2WA1 Diamond Point Airstrip4W8 Elma Mun4WA9 Port Orchard5WA8 Hogan's Corner62WA Davis Field6WA2 Gower Field7WA0 Big Andy80WA Sfs Airpark83Q Port Of Poulsbo Marina Moorage84WA D And B Airpark94WA Wishkah River RanchKCLM Fairchild IntlKHQM BowermanKNOW Port Angeles CgasKPWT Bremerton NatlKSHN SandersonKTIW Tacoma NarrowsKUIL QuillayuteS16 Copalis StateS18 ForksW04 Ocean Shores MunW28 Sequim ValleyWA05 Apex AirparkWA22 MirthWA42 Stacey'sWA45 Olympic FieldWA59 Rake's GlenWA61 Thompson AirportWA96 Leisureland AirparkWN00 Kimshan RanchWN13 Vaughan Ranch AirfieldWN19 Gig HarborWN21 Lawson AirparkWN23 Grand View IntlWN29 Blue RibbonWN47 Bear Valley SkyranchWN49 Harbord FieldWN60 SwantonWN65 MyWN78 Timberline Quarter Horse FarmCheers, Holger

That is great then! Here is an opportunity for you to learn all about the beautiful north west part of Washington state, expand your knowledge, and enjoy the very best of the best FSX scenery in the world. And to think, it is all provided at other people's expense and trouble, without anyone expecting anything whatsoever from you in return.ORBX never even asked you to say thank you, or to acknowledge what they did for you. However, if you ever deemed to do so, even just to be decent and polite, I bet they would sincerly say that you are most welcome, and that they hope you will enjoy the experience as much as they enjoyed giving it to you. Is there anything else they can help you with? :( Stephen
