May 17, 201016 yr *******, and all involved here, just a big thank you for increasing my FSX pleasure immensely.I am having wonderful performance improvements as a result of your good work. I am using TIR5, Horizon UK VFR scenery for FSX, REX2, and using your specimen 'dual core' FSX.cfg as is and without modifications. My flying is mostly coastal ridge soaring with sailplanes well away from autogen, city or airport scenery clutter, but at the base of or in cloud with CumulusX, with water effects on maximum, and getting smooth frame rates (unlimited) around 100 fps.Going to try the shader mod shortly.Another big thank you.Phil the gliderdriverGigabyte GA-MA790X-UD3P MotherboardAMD Phenom II Dual Core 550 3.10GHz Black Edition @ 3.70Ghz4GB Corsair XMS2 (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 TwinX 500GB Seagate 7200RPM HDXFX Radeon HD4890 1024MB GDDR5Windows 7 32 bit defragged with O & O Defrag
May 17, 201016 yr Hello *******,I trust you will have a wonderful time celebrating your brother's accomplishments with him and your family. We will enjoy hearing from you when you get back.Stephen
July 19, 201015 yr Hi *******, I am really impressed about your investigations about the tweaks of FSX and its perfomance. Well I Pascal-Antoin Ducardus
July 20, 201015 yr After using the windows calc in Decimal/Qword mode I've found the Affinitymask value that can be used in six-core rigs: 62, binary conversion 011111 in windows calc that's displayed as 111110 and if you enter 14 in that mode you'll end up with 1110 (binary) as expected. And Pascal, set the FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION to something like 0.25 and test, set the number to where your frame rates average at (just edit what's AFTER the decimal point.) July 20, 201015 yr FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.10That is your problem. You are not allowing enough time for FSX to fully render the image. By reducing this value, you are asking FSX to produce more frames at the expense of image quality.Remove it and you will see your blurries disappear.Best wishesSteve Stephen Munn
July 20, 201015 yr I have Sp2 installed and have read that affinitymask is not needed in the cfg with fsx sp2 (on another site). Is this correct or should I still add it to my cfg? Alfredo Terrero
July 20, 201015 yr I have Sp2 installed and have read that affinitymask is not needed in the cfg with fsx sp2 (on another site). Is this correct or should I still add it to my cfg?Systems with more than 2 cores can sometimes benefit by keeping FSX from core 0 allowing the system to effectively "breath better" instead of all the cores being saturated with FSX. The higher the screen resolution, the more FSX will hammer the additional processer cores. I'm not sure if the activity then shown on core 0 is FSX activities as some people have indicated or just windows system stuff.Just try it on your system and see if FSX runs smoother. Stephen Munn
July 20, 201015 yr Sorry, I forgot to mention I'm running 2 cores. Should I still add this, and if so, what number is the one to add for 2 cores. Alfredo Terrero
July 21, 201015 yr The affinity mask only works with 3 or more physical cores (not sure if it works with virtual cores, I'll find out when I make my six core AMD rig.) Paul Gluck. July 24, 201015 yr Hi Guys, thank you very much for your infos. I will try out your hints and will let you know my coming out. Best regards Pascal Pascal-Antoin Ducardus
July 24, 201015 yr I have an i5-750 @ 4 GHz and also a Sapphire HD-5870 Vapor-X. Yesterday I ceased using the external FPS limiter and set the internal limiter "unlimited". The VSYNC fix is active. I added the Shader 3.0 fix. Now everything is excellent. With the Shader 3.0 fix I have much higher FPS in heavy clouds and I can set LOD_RADIUS=10.000000. Hence there are crisp textures also in a distance of 16 miles. I am exited.1) I use 2048 texture in REX v2.0. I will even test 4096.2) I use Texture_Max_Load=2048 in my FSX.CFG. I will even test 4096.3) Fiber-Frame=0 tweak is not working. BP=0 tweak, Affinity-Mask=14 and Shader 3.0 fix are working nicely.Hi again, you said BP=0, AM=14 are working. What do you mean, with "are working" ? How did you test that? So you get really higher FPS with BP=0 instead of not using BP (BufferPools is deleted in fsx.cfg) ? What CPU are you running? i7 with HT enabled or disabled? AffinityMask=14 refers for 4 threads (HyperThreading disabled on i7), so AM=14 would be equivalent to AM=252 when HyperThreading is enabled (8 threads). Can someone confirm this?Regards,Pegasus. July 24, 201015 yr AM=14 would be equivalent to AM=252 when HyperThreading is enabled (8 threads)I just put in the numbers for a 12 core affinity mask (for i7 ultimate, and AMD Phenom II x6 users with core HyperThreading/Virtualation <-- firefox can't figure out the proper spelling for that) in windows calc, the number got really big really fast: 4094, binary out come; 111111111110 that's a 12 core affinity mask.
