Airbus Family

Featured Replies

For the Love of Zeus...I'm not even particularly an Airbus fan, but the lack of quality options for the Airbus family is troubling. Here we are, nearly 4 years on, and we have nothing of quality for FSX.+ Wilco Airbus 1 and 2? Buggy and no fixes in sight (be nice if we could get a V2 of these like feelThere did for their ERJs). Not to mention that the titles are basically abandoned as evidenced by the lack of Navigraph support. This is REALLY a shame as I believe Eric Marciano did these and his work is good.+ CLS? Ugh... "lite" just isn't gonna cut it+ Aeorsoft? Promising, but no A318 or A319 and certainly no Widebodies. Plus, this is looking "lite" out of the gate. This tells me that the market is satisfied with "beauty over brains" in the Airbus airlinercategory. This is sad because this IMPORTANT part of the worldwide airliner market is all but untouched if you are looking to fly with high-fidelity and attention to realism. You see, I want to follow checklists, have a fully functional FMC/CDU/what-have-you and fly by the numbers. I realize that this is a tall order, but I'd be WILLING TO PAY. However, my willingness to pay (yes, I'd pay $$$ for these things) isn't enough and I'm afraid that the number of top-flight developers is just too small. I've been encouraged by QualityWings, but they've come to a market that is already crowded (or promises to be crowded if the maybe-ware of the LDS 757 ever surfaces). If getting all of the "LAWS" in the Airbus aircraft is the hangup, I can live with at least what the FSX engine already tries to accomplish with Fly-By-Wire. I wonder if, when Phoenix (PSS) left the market in disgust, the only contender (not pretender) for this market segment left too? There is so much talent in Europe (esp. Eastern Europe) that I'm surprised nobody has stepped up.Anyhow, I'm very happy with Boeing (and MD) offerings:+ LDS (long in the tooth, but works like a charm)+ PMDG (744, 748, MD11, 737 for FSX)+ QualityWings (757)+ CaptainSim (iffy, but overall, the 757 and 767 are mostly good)But what the HEY with Airbus? Before I'm corrected on some of my assertions, let me be clear. I am talking about aircraft that work in a CONTEMPORARY environment:+ FSX SP2/Acceleration (with the possibility of DX10 preview mode)+ Win 7 64-BIT (Boo on Wilco and FT in this regard)+ FSX-Only model (no FS9 compromises and dual packages)Oh well. I'm looking forward to Aerosoft's A320 and A321 (why no A318 and A319 is beyond me), and I hope that the promised "advanced" model will materialize. Of course, I'll treat Aerosoft's promise of an advanced model like I've treated the (now folded) Digitial Aviation's VC for the Fokker.Anyhow, I realize that I'm whining (whinging) a bit here, but it really is perplexing that the Airbus doesn't get a fair shake while the advanced options of Boeing and MD aircraft exist in spades.

If you want an airbus that can work in a contemporary environment, with modern avionics, there is one realistic option, and that is to get the Aerosoft SimCheck A300 and then upgrade it with the ISG FMC. That will give you an upgraded early A300 that is just the same as the real ones.Al

Is the ISG FMC by Ernie at FSBuild?

Yup, this thing: http://secure.simmarket.com/ernie-alston-i...28isg1%29.phtmlGreat for those, 'I wish it had this' moments where 'lite' aircraft are concerned, and even useful for updating more heavy treatments of FS airliners on occasion.Al

Do not want to hijack the topic, but would like to ask a question. I do found three 3rd party FMC's at SimMarket:http://secure.simmarket.com/ernie-alston-i...28isg1%29.phtml (already mentioned by Alan)http://secure.simmarket.com/friendly-panel...ck-1-v1.5.phtmlhttp://secure.simmarket.com/friendly-panels-fmc-pack-2.phtmlWhat are basic differences between them? I am considering FMC only, will not use other gauges. Only for FSX, VC mandatory. My choice would be Friendly Panels FMC pack v1.5 since one will receive Airbus/Boeing specific and some general use FMCs, giving total of 7, but in v2.0 You have three generic (3 for FS2004 + 3 for FSX). Is that right?

The difference is that you get a crapload more gauges in the ISG package. The price reflects that of course, since the ISG set is about 20 quid and the Friendly Panels is about half that, being priced at a tenner. If all you want is a CDU in your FS airliner, then Friendly Panels will do that, but it only offers three CDU panels, whereas the ISG has vastly more things included, for example, it will also let you add replacement DUs, EFIS control panels, and all that kind of stuff, so it is a more complete package if you are trying to convert a 'lite' airliner into a complex one. Here's a screenshot of the ISG gauges viewed in FS Panel Studio. You can see from that list that you get a lot more than simply three CDUs, including the one highlighted in that screenshot, it being the EFIS control for an A300:ISG.jpgIn saying all this, I'm not bashing Friendly Panels, they do the job that they are intended to do, which is to let you add an FMS CDU to your airliners, but the topic of this thread is about going for a more realistic treatment of an Airbus, and that requires more than simply a CDU, so if that's what you are after doing, the ISG stuff is a better choice, however, you'd better be certain that you do want a complex Airbus or Boeing if you choose the ISG set. If you prefer a simpler solution, go for the Friendly Panels set, since the 'friendly' part of the product name is quite apt when it comes to adding them.Al

Have you or anyone else added these ISG gauges to the SimCheck 'bus and if so, would you be willing to share your panel.cfg with me? I've done my own modification and will be testing it tonight but am interested in other approaches to this mod. Thanks!

Not done it myself, because I like the SimCheck Airbus with steam INS avionics. I tend to soup up my Boeings with ISG stuff more often than Airbuses, typically the AeroSim FSX stuff.I'd be interested to know how you get on with souping up that A300 though.Al

I installed the Smith FMS, the DU1000 EHSI, the MCU, and the LNAV and VNAV buttons....see screenshots below. You can see I've replaced the "stock" HSI with the DU1000 in the cockpit....the other ISG gauges are pop-ups. But I haven't tested it thoroughly due to a problem with the autopilot. The MCU and the FMS will load a flight plan, and the EHSI will display it, but the autopilot won't engage. After a little research in the ISG forum, I suspect that the problem lies in SimCheck's autopilot code, which is probably customized to work with its CDU...the ISG gauges can't overide that custom AP code.I'm reluctant to mess with the wonderful SimCheck programming just to hack on another AP (not that I would even know how! :( ), so I may settle with simply using the MCU/EHSI combination as a graphical backup for the native CDU...it provides much better situational awareness in the A300B4-200 cockpit. Here're the screenshots:The 2D panel:4617544498_a3a9a141df_o.jpgA VC cockpit shot showing the DU1000 EHSI:4617544402_a137b10cb7_o.jpgAnother VC shot:4617544470_747e9d3291_o.jpg

You do know that you can override the aircraft's autopilot with some commands in the ISG config file don't you? There are details of which command does what in the 'ISG settings' PDF.For example, there is this line which I had to add into the ISG config file so that the Smiths FMC would engage LNAV properly when I added it to my AeroSim Boeing 777. Prior to doing that, it simply would not follow either VNAV or LNAV, when I added it, the autopilot started properly slaving to the FMC as it should:ResetApHdg=1When set to

I had no idea you both updated that A300... can you share your edits here or on the isg panel config site?? I will purchase the Airbus this weekend and retrofit!
