May 27, 201016 yr VSD is an extension for Visio files, so perhaps they are saying that the IMAGE is FSX only. Just a guess.
May 27, 201016 yr VSD as far as the Boeing 737 is concerned, is the Vertical Situation Display, which is an option on the DU for 737NGs (it's a customer option, not all NGs have it, but it can be retroffitted onto any NG so long as the FMC software database and available modes are upgraded. The DUs may also have to be upgraded too, depending on what hardware is in the NG. The EFIS panel needs to be updated too, since that is where you select VSD modes for the DU). VSD is essentially a ground profile terrain 'radar' (although it actually uses FMC data and GPS positioning and not radar) which can display two main things: it overlays a map with terrain heights on the normal DU displays. It is sort of similar in concept to the 737's EGPWS Peaks Display which can be shown on the DU, but unlike with EGPWS, it can be used for navigation and approaches, VSD also displays a sideways-looking graphical representation of the profile for the terrain ahead at the bottom of the DU (which is a bit like the DBS Profile Radar add-on you can get for FS).VSD is useful for aircraft that have to fly in mountainous terrain and also useful for approaches and departures through that kind of terrain. I presume that translation means it will only be a feature on the FSX version and not the FS9 one, but that is just a guess. PMDG's upcoming NG for FSX also features the VSD apparently. For the curious, you can see the VSD profile display on page 36 of this pdf: http://www.smartcockpit.com/pdf/plane/boei...7/systems/0022/Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
May 27, 201016 yr Well it certainly looks nice, I wonder how in depth its Avionics are. I know this one company (cant remeber the name) makes updates for the FMC's of various planes for FSX and FS9! I wonder if this will be supported on the IFly plane. I was over at another site (PMDG) and they seem to be making a 737 as well, and the screenshot looks nice. Anyways good luck to both companies.Ron Hamilton
May 27, 201016 yr I'd say Alan is right on this one. The image on the forum shows something like what Al described.Add to the fact that a couple of posts below someone wrote Deliberately test the radar?...or words to that matter :( Sorry for the false alarm :( Ed OcampoStaff ReviewerAVSIM Online[email protected]Fly DC Jets
May 27, 201016 yr "FS9 no"?Some of the preview screenshots they present on their forum look definitely FS9 to me.What's more one of their forum qoutes we had in the first thread was the developer's statement saying 'both for FS9 and FSX'.At least as far as I remember. So don't you worry, FS9ers! :(

It is just one piece of functionality not available in FS9 that is only available for FSX...Nothing to get alarmed about....-Paul Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
May 27, 201016 yr I'm just going to wait and see, I do have one question though, why does a 737 need a HUD? "Caution is the elder brother of wisdom"
May 27, 201016 yr The 737 is basically a regional airliner that is used by many low cost airlines, but much of the reason such airlines can operate at low cost, is that they tend to fly into the 'out of town' airports, which often have less sophisticated ground based landing aids and lower category ILS gear. Such airports are sometimes not in the ideal spots either, in terms of what weather they experience. That does mean they have lower landing fees and such, which is why the budget airlines use them, but it also means the aircraft which fly into such airports on a regular basis will need fairly good avionics unless they want to find themselves diverting and adding to their operating costs. With a HUD, the ability to land the 737 in poor conditions, yet without traditional ground-based ILS assistance is considerably improved (high category ILS crew qualification requires a high level of crew proficiency too, and is therefore expensive for airlines to maintain).Since a HUD overlays an electronic picture of the runway in the pilot's field of vision, even if you can't see the real view of the runway at all, it is a much simpler landing aid from a training perspective, because it is intuitive to use. So it can effectively make all landings similar to a visual approach, even in weather where you can't see your hand in front of your face.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
May 30, 201016 yr I wanted to drag this thread up from the second page so we don't start a new one, but there have been some new photos posted up. The FMC looks to be 100% functional (and I mean 100%.) It also looks as though the user will have the option to switch between the older style and newer style (BBJ) flightdeck, which mainly changes the style of the MCP and the digital readouts color. With the functionality and modeling that they are showing, I wouldn't be surprised if they sell it in the $60-$70 range. Even so, this offering looks to give PMDG a run for it's money for the FSX crowd, and as it stands now, they look to have the fs9 all to themselves.links to the pictures. Matt Matt L.
May 30, 201016 yr Yep, can't wait to finally have a Collins MCP in a fs9 737. There's also a new video up on the forum showing the HUD which is to be included in the BBJ version. All looking mighty good! i7 2600k @ 5.1Ghz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600Mhz, EVGA GTX 580 @ 950MHz, OCZ Vertex II 240GB, ASUS Xonar DG, Thermaltake Toughpower XT 875W PSU, Antec KÜHLER 620 W/C, Corsair 600T SE White My FS9 Screens - http://fs9screens.blogspot.com/ Callum Richardson
May 30, 201016 yr I just cant wait for it to be released!!!! Im so anxious for this. I dont think i have been so eagerly awaiting a fs9 product before. Intel I7 12700KF / 32 GB Ram-3600mhz / Windows 11 - 64 bit / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060TI / 32" Acer Monitor, Honeycomb alpha/bravo, CH rudder pedals, Tobii 5, Buttkicker, Logitech radio panel.
May 30, 201016 yr I am confused regarding the hud. Someone stated that it was only going to be on the BBJ, but the video is shot from a 736...There is no further info on their forums. I am anxious for them to get their website up and running. Matt L.
June 9, 201015 yr I am confused regarding the hud. Someone stated that it was only going to be on the BBJ, but the video is shot from a 736...There is no further info on their forums. I am anxious for them to get their website up and running. The HUD is only set on BBJ, and the video is from a BBJ as well.I hope this 737 is as good as other "made in China" products, good price and good quality.
