I wanto purchase a twin engine for back country flights. I could not decide which one to buy. I got the Twotter a few weeks ago and just love it! It's a joy to fly and very immersive. I would highly recommend it. The Islander is new and looks great, but I have no experience with it but I'm sure others will let you know.

I prefer Twotter more. Can't say exactly why, but it has that 'thing'.Thats turboprop, it is much faster then Islander, but has worse VC (but still quite good).Islander has GPS build in, which is not very popular - so there is a new gauge which You can work with and learn new things.Don't get me wrong, since both A/Cs are good quality and reasonably easy to fly well.

Both have great short field capability, the Twin Otter more so, check out a link on YouTube of a Twotter landing in St. Barth (TFFJ), the plane comes to a stop before the mid turn off! The BN2 is a little slower, smaller, cannot operate as high as the DHC6... they are two completely different aircraft. The BN2 is a lot newer, and I believe is more well-rounded than the DHC6. Not that the DHC6 is a bad package, not in the least. It is in my opinion worth its price...The fact that I have flown little else in FSX since the BN2 was released, and (personal opinion mode switched on) that is for what I consider to be one of the ugliest planes around, topped for one by its three-engined sister, the Trislander, not bad... particularly when you consider the beauty of the Spitfire, the Duke, C185F, Tiger Moth and so on...If you want performance at altitude in mountainous terrain, then you will need the DHC6...Andrew

The Twin Otter is probably the wiser choice for the kind of flying you want to do. The BN has a prettier VC of course and is very shiny and new, but the VC in the DH is okay. There is certainly a greater variety of aircraft represented in the Aerosoft Twin Otter package, although none of them are the current updated Super-duper Twin Otter that is now back in production unfortunately.Whichever one you pick, don't forget your earplugs.Al

One consideration is that the Islander offers really good visibility. You can look out the side windows and see the big propellors twirl outsideand catch a lot of the scenery which helps with situational awareness. In the Otter you have quite limited visibility, especially out the sides..
