Intel core i5

Time to get rid of it then because it is already out. The Core I7 Extreme 980X. 6 cores and 2 threads per core
Was going to mention that actually, saw it this morning on Overclockers UK. It's a tad pricey though,

As bad as I want it, it will have to wait for the engineering & construction business to pick back up in this part of the world.

Who knows? You might get extra work sucking up oil spills. :)

I am not getting rid of my Quad Core2 until six cores come out. FSX uses up every CPU resource you have available.
This is a tricky statement when concerning multiple cores. FSX is clearly CPU resource heavy, but the issue is that the majority of FSX process will run on one and only one core. Now it will certainly max out that one core. Additional cores can be used by FSX to load textures, but the cumulative knowledge I've run across in all these forums is that's all those extra cores do. You definitely will see improving performance with more cores (this has clearly been demonstrated with 2 vs. 4 cores, it's too early for anyone to have compared 6 cores yet), but logic suggests that more cores come with a dminishing return. There are only so many textures that will need to be loaded. Now, if you move on from just FSX, different cores can be used on a mutliple core CPU to run things like your operating system and add-ons like Active Sky products, freeing up that one CPU core for FSX's main processes. Like I said though, it's a cloudy picture, but FSX won't truly use every CPU resource available on a multicore system.

I doubt that, I've got four cores loaded running only FSX. There's not much else computational going on compared to the graphics load. Please sign your name to posts in this forum.

I have tested my hex core... disabling 2 & 4 and it makes no differnce guys. I'm pretty sure that it's actually the improved architecture of the newest quad & hexs what is a factor indeed. I'd rather run FSX on 2 or 3 cores at 4.2 than 6 at 4GHz. Raw CPU speed seems to be what matters when it comes to FSX for what I know. It really doesn't seem to increase frame rate, but it helps keeping it from dropping at demanding situations (bussy airports, heavy addons)

It's my first post on this forum so HELLO to everybody and sorry for my English ;)Dazz I was looking for someone with system like Yours to share his experience with FSX and Phenom II X6 CPU! I'm about to build new PC, based on i7 or X6, all reviews of those CPUs focus on games that don't use much CPU, but there's nothing about really demanding applications. Can You tell me how it performs, especially with PMDG planes? Currently I have [email protected] with GTX275 and 4GB 800MHz ram, and I get 15-25 fps with my PMDG JS4100 and FSX set to medium and autogen at normal. Thats not very satisfying ;)

Hi Grzegorz and welcome :)Ok, at the moment I'm testing/tweaking a GTX260 to see if I can get a little bit more out of FSX, be it frames or image quality. With the system in my sig I get 15-20 fps in the JS41 at Heathrow + dense autogen and 80% UT2 traffic (everything else maxed except for water: Low 2.x) and also UTX, GEX, REX2 (which really don't affect that much unless you use road traffic and stuff). The Phenom x4 or x6 can definitely run FSX at demanding situations, and the JS41 is the most demanding PMDG plane out there. But if I were you and if you choose AMD, I would go for a 955 BE or a 965 BE (the 125W, not the 140W as it overclocks better). they're much cheaper than the 1090T and you won't notice the difference of having 2 extra cores. That been said, if I had known what I was doing at the moment I built my rig, I would have chosen an I7 920 instead. I have no experience with those, but many fellow simmers agreed they perform better, and you can get an I7 920 for less than a 1090T and not much more than a 965. I know X58 boards cost more, but you can get an ASUS P6T for 200$ more or less, and for what I know, RAM speed doesn't matter that much, so you could get 6GB @1333 for 200 bucks. The advantage of AMD is that they stick to their sockets longer, so if (and that's a big if) the bulldozer comes out next year for AM3 you could upgrade keeping your MOBO (although you might then need/want to upgrade your ram too)Don't forget to try *******' tweaks also.

Dario, thank You very much! That's the info I was "googling" for two weeks! So I finally made decision to go with Intel, probably it will be "only" 860 not 920, but I'll try to get more cash, in the end I want my new PC to last at least 2 years... Yeah, sure, I don't believe it myself, what are those new GPUs?... ;)Thanks and regards!

860 and 920 are basically equivalent anyway, you'll be fine with an OCed 860, I love mine.

I just got the upgrade I was posting about above (going from E6600 to i5-750) and I've got all four cores running at 4.0ghz and it's a huge improvement over the E6600.

What's your vcore at and what are the temps like in prime95 small FFT at 4.0 with the H50?

Vcore is 1.34 and under Prime95 w/ small FFT the hottest core gets to 70*c and the lowest around 63. It's hotter than I'd like but it's stable and I never reach those temps using FSX.
