What a difference a graphics driver set play in it all...

Featured Replies

Correction in title: 'play' should be 'plays'----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I now have a new respect for the role, the graphics driver you are using, plays in smooth rendering and of course great and satisfying visuals.I'm using the new nVidia Beta 257.15's along with Nick Needham's modification to achieve the parameters that nHancer gave/gives you. As a result of the best flight animation I have ever had to date, with my GTX285 vid card, and with running it to test for a whole day, I have now removed nHancer from the cue. It doesn't work until a new version comes out (was using the latest) with the 257.15 driver suite. With Nick's two-step update on the driver init, I do not see a difference than when having had nHancer calling the shots. Everything is top notch!I am CERTAINLY not going back from the 257.15's as it provides all of the great rendering of its previous driver, but puts smoothness onto steroids. Most satisfied!Try them out if you run an nVidia card that can use them.

Sounds interesting. Do you have a link to Nick's latest tweaks?

Yep, I'm using these beta drivers with my 9800 GTX and they are by far the best drivers onthe W7 platofrm to date. Believe me, I've tried them all. The key improvement is smoothness for me, though some have reported big framerate increases in other games.IAN

Ryzen 5800X3D, Nvidia RTX5080 - 32 Gig DDR4 RAM, 1TB & 2 TB NVME drives - Windows 11 64 bit MSFS 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition Resolution 2560 x 1440 (32 inch curved monitor)

where can I download them?

Mitch, you using 8xS or 8xSQ modification?

Hi,so it was the latest nvidia driver ? i was wondering what happened to my FSX to become so smooth...I really don't know what Nvidia changed in their latest beta drivers, but i hope it will stay this way.And no need to have the latest 400 series to appreciate the difference, i'v a GTX 275.Need to follow NickN advice now, to enable proper AA settings until next nhancer update.

I *think* I also notice major smoothness improvement, though always very sceptical on this one, because it can always be a placebo effect or the effect of the moment. I'll need some more persuasion, but nothing bad has come out of the upgrade, and already look forward to the nhancer.

I judge smoothness based on what scenery I fly in. Using Orbx PNW, this latest driver is smooth and the scenery is less blurry or sharper while flying faster.Still not perfect, but Nvidia is getting there.

Hi Word Not Allowed,I'm am using whatever Nick wrote into his replacement 'GLOBAL' init. I'm also running with this GLOBAL for FS9 as well. I have not deviated from that, and let me tell you....it is WONDERFUL! The ground details with this driver is almost photogenic. I commented in another thread about using this driver and the animation smoothness in viewing the Atlantic in and about the Caribbean. Word Not Allowed..it sure looks real to me. As they say in the poor vernacular..."I ain't going back, Jack...." :( Mitch

Mitch,8sQ looks even better.Jose

I totally agree.FSX with this driver, a GTX480 with 8sQ per Nick's instructions and some of ******* super tweaks + his shaders mod have changed in a drastic way my FS experience.

I hesitated to add my voice to the surprised crowd praising the new Nvidia beta 257.15 driver. Nevertheless, after running FSX a few more times with the driver, Nhancer disabled, using Nick Needham's NVDIA control panel changes, I can report that there is a sustained and substantial increase in overall smoothness and in my particular case, a 15-20% FPS jump. Here is the reason why:Because I have returned my EVGA GTX 470 in exchange for a new EVGA GTX 480 in the Step-up program, for the next week or two I am once again using my overclocked EVGA GTX 275. I was able to increase the FPS Limiter settings from 24 to 30 FPS with 28 FPS being the average doing circuits in an extremely dense Darrington. The lowest on the last circuit was 19 FPS and the high of 41.5. Subjectively, I could not tell the difference between it and the overclocked GTX 470 I just sent back. I know, I know, this testimony is incredulous, and admittedly I did not record the 470 GTX's numbers in exactly the way, however, without a doubt, this 257.15 driver has done something brand new and significant to Nvidia cards, for the 200 series as well as the 400's. All the experimentation is with 8xSQ settings so even though it can not match the 470's 32xAA.The combination of Nick's and *******' tweaks, even 2nd line video cards can take top honors. Very, very impressive! This means a brilliant future for Nvidia cards! Can't wait to see what my new 480 GTX will do!Stephen
