June 1, 201016 yr Hi all. Recently I purchased a new system. here is the specsI7 980XAsus rampage 3eVGA 480SCCorsair dominator DD3 tri channelSilverstone 1500W psuI THOUGHT I would have a system that would crush FSX pretty good. To my surprise I think my older QX9650 system ran FSX better. I have OC'ed the i7 to 4.3 on water. I dont have too many addons installed yet:PMDG js41UTX canada, USA, EuropeActive sky evolutiondreamteam scenery KLAS, KORD, JFKFS genesis (all of them)I am only getting about 15-18 fps and not very smooth when I am in kord with the js41. I have put most of Nicks tweaks in and the 257 drivers with his profile. even in the default baron on kord with clear skies the FPS is only 25 BUT it is pretty smooth. Just wondering if I am missing something vital on the tweaking side of things. Any suggestions welcomed! Thanks ! And no I am not using the BP=0 tweak because I use multi monitors. At least I don't think that tweak is recommended with multi monitors.
June 1, 201016 yr Using multi monitors and UsePools=0, no problems. So get tweaking :( "I´ll rather be down here wishing I was up there than be up there wishing I was down here"

June 1, 201016 yr Moderator Realy? Thx bud. I thought ******* put a list of things that if you plan on doing, dont even bother thinking about using the bp=0 tweak and I though multi monitors was one of themHe did say that but forget the BP=0 tweak and any other tweaks for NOW - with just a TBM of 120 and BP of 80000000 - you should get smooth operation on that system and easily do better than 25fps. Once you get all your FSX settings where you like them and the system is stable and smooth - then you can try all the other tweaks.FWIW, my system is a 980X at 4.4 on air running on a GTX280 and the only tweak I use is TBM 120/BP80000000 - extremely smooth operation - FPS maxed at 30 although I can run at 60 with no issues. Multi monitors at 1920x1200. ASE, FEX, GEX, UTX, WOAI, TrackIR and ENB bloom mod. All sliders maxed except autogen is Very Dense, no light bloom, no airplane shadows on self. Sometimes the fewer tweaks the better, but get it going really good w/o tweaking and then add the icing if you feel you need to. Chasing tweaks on a not completely set up system can be frustrating.Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
June 2, 201016 yr Author Hey Vic. thx a bunch. I added the [bufferpools]Poolsize=80000000 and the TBM set to 120.The FPS went from about 16 to 23. Not as much as I hoped but it did pick up the smootherness quite a bit.
June 2, 201016 yr Make sure water is set to 2x low and bloom is off. Turn cars down to like 8% if running UTX. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

June 2, 201016 yr And do you have FSX on a separate harddrive?! I would recommend it. "I´ll rather be down here wishing I was up there than be up there wishing I was down here"
June 2, 201016 yr Author And do you have FSX on a separate harddrive?! I would recommend it.Hi again. Yes I used NickN's guide on simforums. And FSX is on the same HDD as the OS. Its a 300 GB velociraptor. I think I may have forund the problem. Tell me if I have altered my cgf file properly please.[bufferpools]UsePools=0Poolsize=3000000000 (Do you think this is too much? Too little?I placed this under the [Display] sectionI didn't think you needed to add BOTH Usepools AND Poolsize. I added them together and my FPS went up to 28-33 fps. So far it looks all good to me. Haven't thrown some Activesky weather at it yet but I think I am in the right direction. If you can think of anything else for me I appreciate it. Thanks guys
June 2, 201016 yr Are you running FSX in windowed or full screen? On my old screen I got better performance in wnindows mode, but with the 920 Im using now full screen doubles the FPS, and Im running 2 monitors. Jay

Thanks guysFirst, [bUFFERPOOLS] is its own section of the fsx.cfg. I place it at the top of the page. Second, UsePools=0 tells FSX to use no bufferpool. This means that your Poolsize=300000000 has no effect, and that is a good thing because you have specified a nearly 3GB bufferpool! Also, it should be PoolSize=x. Shane Gavin
June 2, 201016 yr After some testing with the latest 257.15 nvidia driver, here is my conclusion:Option 1:PoolSize=0TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=40FSX FPS limiter=0External FPS limiter=30Prerender limit=1This configuration gives the highest framerates (25-30 fps), but more stutters/microstutters, and the texture/autogen loading suffers. Terrain textures take longer to sharpen and autogen popping is much more noticeable. Option 2:PoolSize=104857600 //100MB poolsizeTEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=120FSX FPS limiter=0No external fps limiterPrerender limit=3This configuration gives slightly lower fps in some cases (CS 767 drops to 18-24 fps for example), but the fps are pretty good in the air at around 30-40fps. I get the least amount of stutters, and microstutters are very minimal and much less perceptable. Terrain textures sharpen quicker than option 1, and autogen is loaded much faster as well. This is my preferred setup for now as it gives me the best combination of fps, smoothness, and texture/autogen loading speed. Shane Gavin

If my 3000000000 is 3GB wouldn't your 104857600 be just over 1GB and not 100MB like you have there?
