The future of scenery and realism

Featured Replies

Hi,I've logged more than 1000 flight hours in real world and I think that photoscenery is very realistic. Don't forget that in real flying you rarely fly too low for safety reasons such as bird strikes, engine failure, etc and that while on short final it is too late to contemplate the scenery. Sometimes it is even better with photoscenery because photos were taken in ideal weather conditions whereas most of the time it is always somewhat hazy in real world. I' ve just flown around Dillon , MT in FS with Simsavvy and was blown away by the crispness of the scenery. I use sectional charts (VFR sectional atlas -air chat system ) and it is a pleasure to spot every landmarks, every details reported in the map in FS. Happy flying.

And add to that I think it
Photoreal airports and new landclass would be a solid boost towards realism, and make all the airports inviting.
Not without proper 3D buildings added. Photoreal only only looks good (imho) with proper buildings added (like the Orbx airport addons) OR from a very great height (any photoreal scenery will do at high altitudes). Since airports are usually seen from a low altitude, they need buildings otherwise they will look utterly flat and not real at all. (At lower altitudes photoreal might look great when looking at it from the right direction, but at real low altitudes, as near airports, you can't even see the buildings in the photoreal textures anymore.) But again, that's my opinion. :( But this topic isn't about photoreal airports... it's about new ideas and fantasies about the future! I've read some very interesting things, I have to say. But one thing is clear: my wishes won't be fulfilled in a few years time... :(

Don't give up. Those red light cameras aren't just there to give out tickets. It's the start of the next generation flight sim, and as soon as the whole world is covered with cameras the imagery will be piped to your computer for actual real life scenery in real time. Sorry, but it will require another computer upgrade. :(

Art

Here is an idea that may be possible now.Combine FS with Google Earth Street View.Leave your simulated house. Get in your automobile (modeled the same as an aircraft without wings). Start it up cold & dark. Drive to the airport using Street View. (The AI traffic is terrible on the freeway) Get out and climb into your plane and fly off into the sunset for a mini-vacation. You could also do moon landings using Google Sky. Get into your FS Space Ship. Space Walk. Real time to Mars would be tough. :)Roy Warren

Any photoreal scenery I've installed over the years has ended up being uninstalled pretty quickly. I just never like the way it looks in motion. It often looks great in screenshots, but (particularly for GA flying) I find it looks pretty bizarre...

I just purchased a program called Massive Scenery for $200, which supposedly utiizes actual photos takend by some Goverment agency and covers all East Coast and West Coast U.S.tates, as well as some in the center. Reviews on Pilot Shop are positive (excpet for mine). I haven't yet got the program to work.

Since the subject was raised its great to dream about the future Sims but we do have it good now , FS has matured , us with it and the quality of addons are now outstanding , and in a variety and price range that meet every taste and sophistication level desired.

Very interesting. A glimpse a few years out. Un fotuantely, FSX will need a graphics converter of some sort as well but at least it appears promising!

Low and behold....here's a developer with a demo!
Like with all tech demos remember - they use programmer-art! So listen to the theory and IGNORE the images.I assume this is in its infancy...so it's all a bit academic rather than practical. :( And

Hi,Installation is easy. It is exactly what you have to with any add on scenery. It is just a matter of pointing at the location of your scenery with the FSX scenery add on manager. Make sure you point at each state separately. You can use the delivered disk directly, without doing anything.I am sure that you will be pleased with the result. Make sure you modify your review accordingly :( . If you need help send me a PMtake care
