June 4, 201016 yr I am getting a new computer today and would like some guidelines on reinstalling FSX, FS9 plus some addon aircraft and scenery.I would like to know if there are licensing requirements regarding payware vendors.1)Also,if there are better areas for locating fs9,FSX, e.g. creating separate partitions.2) New tweaks and sequence of installation.New computer specs are as follows.Asus Essentio CG5290-BP007 Core i7-920 2.66GHz overclockable9GB DDR3 mem1TB driveNVIDIA GeForce GTX260 PCI Express 1Gig.Any suggestions appreciated.Ron Ron Service .

June 4, 201016 yr Commercial Member you have a rig similar to mine, except i have a i7 930. Biggest tweaks (in order of importance)-overclock (more than doubled my fps, from 2.8ghz to 3.8ghz)-Bojote's tweaks - you'll see these in this forum-set frame limiter to 40-if using BP=0, make sure you set your water to 2.x high, otherwise you'll see graphic glitches left and rightIf you do all these, you can be in a fully loaded PMDG plane (like the Md11), AI traffic, high settings, Enbseries bloom mod, TrackIR, MultiCrew Experience, EzDok Camera and still get 40fps in a payware airport like LOWW.Enjoy :)
June 4, 201016 yr I have 3 INSTANCES of FSX: XP32, XP64 and WINDOWS7-64.I share the same FSX folder in F DRIVE between XP32 and Windows7. I use another FSX folder for XP64. Both FSX folders are practically IDENTICAL. No CONFLICT experienced whatsoever. My files in documents and settings\application data\microsoft\FSX are practically identically. The FSX.cfg just about the same. All this MIX......WORKS.

June 6, 201015 yr ABE, how do you ensure that all the registry settings in XP32 and W7 correctly point to the single shared FSX folder?JohnI think that could be done with the flight 1 registry fix tool, which you define where FSX is located. Since there is 3 O/S's there are 3 separate registries, so I don't think there would be any conflicts there. Wouldn't though there be authorization issues, since the activation would have been only on one of the O/S's? Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d

But installed add-ons I assume would have to be installed in each OS.As for as the activation, I thought it applied to the computer hardware, not the OS.John
June 13, 201015 yr Author I have now got my new computer more or less working.I am having problems with Acceleration being certified,as it seems to revert to a trial version.I have contacted Microsoft, and they gae me a new product key which does not work.Any ideas? :( Ron Service Ron Service .
June 14, 201015 yr It could be done very easily with the "registry fix tool". But to be on the safe and more secure side. I make a new installation of FSX with the new SYSTEM DRIVE. Of course I RENAME my original FULLY BLOATED folder to "FSX.HOLDING". The new one would be called "FSX". After installation, I either delete the new FSX folder I just installed or name it something else.......as a backup. Go back to "FSX.HOLDING" and rename it "FSX" which can be shared seamlessly by two or more different operating systems. Like I mentioned earlier.....works like a charm!!The important thing is to copy all the FSX related files such as FSX.CFG, FLIGHT PLANS, ETC........usually located in "DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ADMINISTRATOR\APPLICATION DATA\MICROSOFT\FSX........Copy all that to your new SYSTEM DRIVE.The location might vary a little bit depending on the operating system.Abe

Because I'm about to reinstall the whole thing (new Hard drive in da house) but I'm reading a lot of these posts where people are saying they have a lot of problems activating the product.. calling to India and such stuff.I don't understand this.. isn't the serial number on the DVD box? Why can't they activate it? Where's the problem and how likely will this happen to me?Just curious. Tomaz Drnovsek My FSX Videos My AVSIM Gallery

I have reinstalled FSX on 5 different systems as I upgraded and only once did I have to call MS for activation. Not a problem - took a minute or so and all was well. It's not a big deal as long as you have a legit copy.As far as running a single instance of FSX under 3 different OS - it will work unless you install Acceleration - then it will only activate on ONE system and when you switch to the other OS, it will generate an error. This is with legit DVD's. RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
