Al, as always, has made a great point. My respects to you, sir. I agree with the posters above me; it shouldn't be banned if the thread is being carried out in a proper way. This reminded me of another forum on which Boeing vs Airbus threads were forbidden, so when I saw this, I immediately thought "yes, it should be banned", but after reading all of the posts, I quickly changed my mind. You people have made some great points.Paul: Sorry to hear about your accident, but I'm glad you seem to be on the way to recovery. Very glad to hear that, must have been some terrible moments for you and those who love you. Hope you continue to recover!

Reading the thread one could think, that almost everybody voted NO (If I haven't missed a post I think it was only Mack who said he voted YES). But the results shows that approx 20 % voted YES.I do not want to provoke, but why is this discrepancy? Are the YES-voters

That might be because some who expressed an opinion didn't actually vote, including me, who did not bother to select a choice.Al

Get well soon Paul :( I pity the person who did that to you, 'you reap what you sow' is as certain a law as gravity :( The fact that the older sim still lives at all is amazing to me - I guess occasional discourse is inevitable. My mature 2c on that score - fs9 rulez and fsx sux! :( B)

Regards,

Mark

Hie Pauloff course I too would like to wish you all the best for your comnvalescence!Take care, Wolfgang

As for the sig, someone should have just pm'd me... Sorry it bothered you so much MGH... The IP and everything is readily available at danasoft.com and is a joke (ha ha, lol, funny)... Certainly not intended to be so controversial to warrant a ban. (BTW: it never violated the Avsim rules in any way or I would have changed it immediately) Pitts: It was done ages ago long before we were scrolling on our Droids and I-Phones. But as you brought up a great point with the I-Phone the sig is changed... Hopefully that is better now...
Thanks for removing it.

I voted NO. Topics that a person doesn't like can simply be passed over, it's not that hard...you don't like it simply ignore it and move on. I don't like green pants but that doesn't mean that I'm going to lobby for a ban on them because there are plenty of people who do like them and it would be pretty darned selfish of me just to think of the things that I want and not consider the wants or needs of others.No. No. No.

Ed,Mark, WolfGang, Thank you very much, I appreciate everyones good wishes!!! Mike, I am glad you got to vote and respect your opinion 100%, this has been a great open conversation about two differing opinions on how to best handle something; there is nothing "darned selfish" about asking others opinions on something... (ie starting a poll) As I mentioned earlier, after talking/typing it out on the forums I (the OP) even conceded there are better ways to handle it than how I originally suggested. (ban the individuals not the topic). Your analogy is not quite right however; it is more akin to you like red pants, I like green pants and we are both in a forum talking about pants. Now 99% of the time the red vs green conversation comes up it goes down the same stupid rathole ending up in a pointless peeing match over whose pants are better. Some people ~ 1/5 according to the polls would prefer those conversations to be locked down to help dissuade the repeated peeing matches... It is not one group saying ban the other from the forums because they don't like the color of my pants... Again, I question how that is darned selfish But it is all semantics at this point as I think the vast majority have spoken and that is why I started a poll with open discussion opposed to just demand my way... (which would have been very selfish)But again, I respect your opinion and don't argue with you; I agree there are better ways to handle it than how I suggested.-Paul

My vote is NO.If a thread starts to get out of hand then yes, the moderators can close it but until that happens, the threads should be allowed to run. Sure, these kind of peeing matches are annoying when they happen, but also these threads can contain useful snippets of information / opinions from posters which are valuable later... It is very easy to skim-read a thread, decide that it's of no value, and then pay no further attention to it. If comments in threads are not personally directed, we should all be mature enough to not take them as such. If personal abuse begins, that's when it's time for some moderation!Cheers,Geoff
